Please compare Ashaway Monogut 17 vs Luxilon BB Ace 18

I am considering hybriding one of these two polys as mains with a soft string (Gosen TechBio 16) as crosses in my PS 6.0 85. Providing that I'm stringing them with the same tension, how would the two hybrids compare in terms of...

playability?
Comfort (arm friendliness)?
Control?
Tension hold?
Durability?
Power?
String movement?

The hybrids cost $4.50 and $9.00 respectively. So I'm wondering if BB Ace has all the benefits to justify the cost difference. Thanks in advance.

Playability: Mono=poor Ace=good
Confort: Mono=Ok Ace=Ok
Cotrol: Mono=poor Ace=good
Tension Hold: Mono=extremely poor Ace=OK
Durabilty: Mono=OK Ace=OK (for poly)
Power: Mono=poor Ace=Good
String Movement: Mono=Good Ace=Good

Neither compares to ALU for poly. Monogut loses tension very fast. If, however, you do not play a power game and like lower tensions, mono ok especially for the price.

Thanks Tarheelbornjohn. From what you said Ace has better playability, control, power and tension hold so it must worth a try. Hope someone will respond to my WANTED Ad. ;-)

Monogut 17g is the best buy out there. Its cheap. thin. does not break. I think it plays well and is on the soft side of the poly's. I find that tension goes fast but at four bucks..... a new strings jobs feels great.

They are very different strings, the Ace feels very soft, and the monogut is alot stiffer. Ace is easier on the arm and as you know the monogut is easier on the pocket. I personaly felt like the ace was a little too soft, great for x's but I did not like for mains, but it is personal preference. In other areas I did not see much of a difference.

I've tried both strings and I prefer the BB Ace. BB Ace holds tension better.

I was very disappointed with the Ace. Monogut isn't any better, but for 4 bucks...not too shabby. If your willing to go Ace route, add 1 mo buck and get the Alu power. It's uber better.

Remember the great experience you had with the Kirschbaum Touch Turbo, the supposedly powerful poly? LOL
