I am actually 100% sure of it. It will happen because he now knows how to win slams. His game is getting to a decent level and all he needs it to do is to peak for one tournament.

Maybe not now when Novak is ravaging the tour but yes if there will be an opening he might end up doing it.

I almost LOLed at this thread, because it's exactly how I predicted people would react to the Raonic upset.
Player gets an upset, TTW calls them the next multi-Slam winner. All according to keikaku.

Well Stan has potential. I think he could become a multi-Slam winner and grab maybe 3 Grand Slam titles.

Stan beating Raonic is an upset? Well, pardon my LOL.

As much as I like Stan, I doubt he has another run in him. He's been away from the big stage for too long now, I fear...

Based on what? Beating Raonic after losing to him 3 times in a row in Slams? Wawrinka is almost 34 and I feel he overachieved, so I don't see anymore Slams. I think he can have another good run in one or two though.

To be fair, two of these losses came when he has working on his comeback after surgery, US18 and AO19.

A well-playing Stan is always a threath in slams, there's no need pretending otherwise.

From RG13 - RG17 (the last decent Stan before surgery) he won 3 slams, made 1 final, 5 semi finals and 4 quarter finals (y)

Those are very fine results in what some believe was strong tennis years.

Yes but AO 2019 was a year after his return to the game though.

Yes a well playing Stan but he hasn't been playing all that well, not even in smaller events.

I know his results but he will 34 in a few weeks, not getting any younger, and besides a couple of close matches he played against Federer and Nadal 6 months ago, has not showed that he will consistently play at the level he played in those years.

I don't think he'll win a slam, but I believe when someone thinks he can, it's based on his career. I am following his matches, he is making progress all the time and looks to be fit. His ranking has also made the comeback particularly tough, meeting top players in the first rounds everywhere, so he has had too few wins to build momentum on. Will be interesting to see if he is hungry for more. He has such a phenomenal mindset when he is tuned in, and that's why I believe he can still be considered a competitor.

He looks to be miles behind Novak at the moment (who aren't?), but the others are within reach, I think.

Dangerous thread!

Djoker's insecure TW army is already crapping their pants and will start writing down Warinka anytime soon ...

Well if you don't think he will another Slam then what is there to disagree with with what I said? He's ranked around #68 right now, I think? He's been back for over a year now and that ranking should at least be in the top 40. It's more of losses to players he should beat in smaller events that has hurt him getting a decent ranking.

I think some tennis fans look at Federer winning Slams at 35 and 36, and look at Djokovic and Nadal bouncing back from injury to return to the top again and think Wawrinka can do it to. The problem with that mindset is the Big 3 are just on another wavelength than everybody else. Wawrinka has never been that consistent to begin with and you will be hard pressed to find another player who won 3 Slams and only has 1 Masters title and has never been ranked higher than #3. Now that he is older and these younger players are getting better, he will find it even harder than before. Even if he never gets back to where he was he should be happy with what he achieved.

What people are forgetting is Stan got assistance from Fed's inner circle. So his knees are good and his age isn't a huge disadvantage with his lack of mileage.

I think his best shot is USO this year or AO-FO next year.

I don't care about outcome. All I care is level. I was first one to call comeback of Ultron last year - that after his defeat to Nadal in Rome.

The tour is so weak right now, peak levels wise, that it's entirely possible if Fedalovic, del-Potro (+ maybe CIlic, Nishikori and so forth) conspire to collectively have a weak slam. However, realistically Stan shouldn't really be beating anyone top 20 who can consistently get him on the move because as it stands it looks like he can no longer defend like he did at his best, which was critical for keeping himself in certain points long enough to get the half chance needed to hit a booming winner. If a player keeps teeing him up for winners and Stan isn't brain-farting then he's still plenty capable of beating top 20 guys thankyouverymuch, and he is a proven slam winner after all.

Will he? Unless he magically rediscovers the movement that's been missing for the last 14(?) months it's unlikely.

Can he? Absolutely. Enough quality remains in his game to blast his way through to a SF standing still and then it's down to who's left.

The robustness of Wawrinka's movement was chronically ignored during his most successful years.

I say no. If I'm wrong, I'll be happy, because I rather like Stanimal. But I think as an aging player that he might have a good chance without Djokovic hogging all the wins and Nadal dominating clay. Nadal could fail this year if he is reinjured, or not fully healed, but a healthy Nadal will not be easily toppled on clay.

Wawrinka is a player who did not mature tactically until late in his career. His problem was always mental, and every time he points at his brain he's reminding myself of that.

i dont think he can reach a semifinals of a gs anymore but if there is a player who is not afraid of djokovic, undoubtedly that is wawrinka.
depending on his ranking, a wawa nole in third or fourth round of roland garros would be spectacular and so would be in wimbledon and us open.

I'd love to see him win another FO. I don't think he's going to be in sufficient physical shape to do it though. Would love to be proven wrong. He's almost 34, I think his slam winning days are over, but when Stanimal's in da house, nothing stops him!
