I'm also about 3,5-4.0. Tell me something about playing with Phantom on this level. Is it hard to generate power?

At first it was. Sweetspot felt small and balls were going in the net more. Then I tinkered with string type and tension and I think it is OK. Not powerful but adequate to put a ball away with some level of authority. I tried weight in the upper hoop to get more power and expand the sweetspot but it made it harder to swing and time.

Ok. It strange to me because you say sweetspot was small but looking on TWU PP100P has the biggest sweetspot zone of all Phanotom series. So again - neither stats, neither numbers but subjective feeling is more important

Having a couple issues with my Phantom 100s, posting to see if anyone is experiencing similar.

1. Paint chipping like crazy
2. Grommet getting eaten up like crazy
3. Pallets breaking (felt excessive shakiness in the handle, pulled off the buttcap and the staples and the outer part of the handle was torn on two of my frames).

All these issues arose within the first two months of owning the racquets.

Really, Prince? Been a long time supporter of their product (since 2010) but issues like these make me want to switch to a certain hyped competitors frame with a similar flex.

Had my pro 100p for over a year now. Experienced none of the above. Could be the batch you got.

My Phantoms are perfect.
I've already had a pair of Warrior 100 for almost one year. The buyer loves the condition of my used Warriors.. 9.5/10.

I had Prince Tour 100P and I agree with 1st. I don't know why but it had a few. Maybe because of other racquet in my bag

I did have the paint chipping issue on my first two 93P's, purchased mid 2018. Don't seem to have it on the one I bout late 2018, or the PP100P I have purchased in 2019. So it's possible that the first batches had issues, that got corrected.

This is a cross-post from a Tour 100P thread:

I may try the 2015 TT100P. I've been playing with the Phantom Pro 100P for close to a year, and I love the comfort, the old-school feel, etc. However, I'm coming to terms with the fact that I'm an average player (middling 3.5) who is still trying to nail down technique, footwork, consistency, etc. The PP100P seems to shine for people with really full strokes and great timing but, for me, I continue to struggle with things like the serve and defensive stabs at the ball when I'm pulled out wide.

The consensus seems to be that the TT100P retains comfort but offers more free power, forgiveness, and a bit more of a modern feel than the PP100P. For those who have played both, would you agree with that?

The PP100P has a SW of 329 vs. 321 for the 2015 TT100P, so it's quite a bit more difficult to wield. Plus the RA is lower, which makes it slightly less powerful. So I definitely think that the TT100P is going to be a bit easier to play, for people who are still working at developing full strokes.

I am a solid 4.0, perhaps 4.5 on my good days, with a decent technique and I do prefer the PP100P because of the extra comfort and control. The TT100P was a bit too powerful for me when I tried it, but I can see how it could work for people looking for power and maneuverability while maintaining good comfort and decent control. The PP100P, while easier to play than my 93P, is probably not the easiest of racquets to play with in the larger scheme of things.

So here's my entry in the "You know you're a racquetholic when..."

After feeling down about the PP100P, I played incredibly well with it on Monday night. It didn't feel difficult to wield at all. I was crushing groundstrokes, hitting solid volleys, but most notably making a lot of shots that, IMO, require a racquet with touch and feel (short lobs, chip and charge, etc.).

Power didn't feel too lacking and I had that sensation of being able to hit out without fear of sending the ball long. It reminded me of why I loved this frame to begin with.

What may have rekindled the flame is that I used my one PP100P that has tungsten tape (~2g) in the hoop at 12 o'clock. I don't have any right now on my other PP100P and that seems to be the one that I'm struggling with.

So maybe I just had a few off matches and shouldn't blame the racquet. Regardless, I just received three demos: TT100P (2015), Yonex VCORE Pro 97 (310), and Prince Beast 98. I'm interested to see how all of these play compared to the PP100P.

My problem is my forehand is on a total different level to my backhand. Feels I can't prepare fast enough to hit a good 1 hander.

I think we all spend way too much time debating racquets and money purchasing them, and not enough time training and money on coaching. I think that if one has picked a frame that generally suits him / his style of play, he's better off sticking with this frame and fine tuning weight / balance + string / tension until finding the right combination, and spend a lot of time on court practicing, rather than getting a new frame altogether in the hope that it will magically resolve one's preceived flaws.

It's fun to be a racquetholic, though. Having played the Prince Graphite Pro 90 in my youth, I am very tempted to get the 93P with the 14x18 pattern. But having played with the 93P 18x20, and now settling with the PP100P, it's probably just going to mess with my game.

Only coaching and repetition will solve that. The topspin 1HBH is one of the most difficult shots to time right. But sometimes minimal adjustments translate in big improvements. I was lacking consistency and often missing long, and it took a coach 5 mn to convince me to use a stronger eastern grip and close the racquet face in the backswing to resolve most of the issue.

Agree. I'm sure small adjustments will work wonders. Some days my backhand works but most days it doesn't. Its like my muscle memory is all over the place. Different parts doing the right or wrong things at a given time. Been forced to slice most balls on that wing.

I too slice most of my backhands, but it's a confidence thing. What I am working on right now is fixing the small glitches in my topspin backhand, and force myself to hit a lot more of them in training matches. So that I build enough confidence to hit it in tournaments.

I am really looking forward to the new frames coming to Europe. I like open pattern string setups but would like to try a little different balance with the Phantom Pro 16x18. I think the frame is great but would like to see it with a weight of 310 or the 305 with a balance of 320. But the frame is great as it is and can be used by more different levels of players with the present setup. I just added weight myself and the frame is great. I am looking forward to trying the heavier, tighter pattern Phantom Pro.

The PP100P hits a heavier ball than the PP100 but it felt more sluggish to me. Despite it's RA rating of only 59, it plays a bit stiffer and not as comfortable to me since I have sensitive elbow. Interestingly, I find the PP100 to have better control, perhaps due to being easier to swing so I was able to get around quicker. I am loving the PP100 from all areas of the court. The only issue I have is that I struggled a bit with flat serves, and this is where the PP100P shines. Also, the PP100 is a bit too muted. I can't tell when the ball hits the stringbed and where it's going to land. Hopefully a livelier poly could solve that issue. Other than that, it's such a beautiful looking and playing frame that I think I'm gonna make the switch to the PP100 full time. Despite being the same thickness, the PP100 looks thinner than the PP100P. The PP100P's box beam construction makes the 100 sq. in. look huge and kinda ugly imo.

Yes, Prince QC is very bad. Some guy used racquet matching service in TWE. His PP100P Pro were in range 304-315 strung. You can read in thread Prince Phantom Pro 100 and Phantom 100P Pro on page 23.

Mine is 303g unstrung, so 7g less then it should be. I'm not sure what SW is but if I go by the feeling I would say 305-310 strung

In that case, I might have to buy the PP100P from TW and have them find me one with the lowest sw so I can do a better comparison with the PP100. The current demo I have swings very heavy.

I did that. Unstrung SW printed on frame is 295 and mine measured 284. Not sure of strung SW but mine still felt substantial. Definitely not in low 300 area. Stable with decent weight on the ball.

I've got a Phantom Pro 100 that is leaded up pretty good for more plow, and a Pro 100p that has just a little lead at 10/2 to increase the sweet spot and stability. Instability outside the sweet spot is the ONLY thing I don't love about the Pro 100p. Lead at 10/2 helped a little, but not as much as I'd like, and I don't want to add more and increase the overall weight. I've gone lower tension to help with that also and it might have helped a little, but still not as much as I'd like. The Pro 100 had a bigger sweet spot even before adding a bunch of lead. The lead added power and plow, but overall I prefer the feel of the Pro 100p at ball impact, if it's in the sweet spot. If the Pro 100p had the sweet spot of the 93p, but the weight of the Pro 100p, it would be perfect.

I own a Pro 100p and I've demo'd the TT100p several times, and in my opinion, the Pro 100p is actually a more powerful racquet. Or maybe it just feels that way because it feels much more *solid* on impact than the TT100p, at least to me.

QC is definitely not up to the level of Yonex, that's for sure. But definitely not as bad as Wilson, which routinely range +/- 10g from stated weight.

Broke my second set of Hyper G 17 (50 lbs) in my PP100P after 8 hours, consistent with the first one. It literally exploded with a huge bang. I definitely need something a bit more durable.

Should I go for 16 or 16L? Does anyone have a suggestion?

Does anybody know why the PP100 has 8 mains in the throat but the PP100P has 6? Is the PP100 string spacing more dense?

String spacing is exactly the same and number of mains has to do with there not being enough room in the PP100P throat for 8 because of the box beam.

I demoed all three 16x18s at the same time and measured the string spacing with calipers.

Is it me or does the PP100P not take lead tape very well? I had a problem getting it to stick. I didn't have the same problem with the PP100 eventhough they have the same pj. Last night, I didn't even realized that a strip of lead tape had fallen off one side of my racquet until the set was over.

I remember having some trouble with tungsten tape, but thought it was because of the width compared to the narrow beam. I had to cut notches to fit around the string holes.

Anyone used the Phantom Pro 100 with multifilaments? Please post the string and tension, I am definitely moving to this stick due to my sensible elbow.

Hi,
I played several times with multi even though now I prefer full poly or gut poly, for better control and to get less annoyed (jaja) by the movement of the strings.
I had it with babolat addiction 1.30, a little too much power and movement.
I played it with NGR2, nice feel but too quick too mushy, lots of power ...
I preferred the slightly less “chewing gum” and lower powered head velocity in the phantom pro 100...
But all very very comfortable, all at 22kg

I have been using the Phantom Pro for about 8 months and have tried a number of Technifibre multifilaments like HDX 17 at 21 kg ( 45 lbs), X-One biphase 18 at 22 kg ( around 47 lbs) and Multifeel black16 at 21 kg (45 lbs). All of these strings performed really well. Power and feel are great, with a huge emphasis on comfort. The Phantom Pro is a control frame which is complemented by almost any multi, which provides a nice amount of power to this low powered frame. To be honest, I had a really hard time deciding which string to settle on. Technifibre also has a string that I considered to be one of the most comfortable strings on the market, TGV. TGV is available in Europe but I am not certain if they are available in the states. My go to string at present is Multifeel black due to it's comfort, spin potential and playability. I also have a nice supply of HDX 17, super string.

About to demo the phantom pro 100p, the new 18x20, and the 93p 14x18. I really want to love the 100p. Thin box beams are amazing to slice and serve with. Feels like you are really getting a close razor shave on the ball. Thick beams feel like I'm going to frame everything. Anyone played with the thin box beam 97s that was out a few years ago. I think it was 18x17 string pattern 19.5mm beam. I loved that stick but it was too head heavy. I'm hoping this is the better version, maybe add a prince calfskin grip and some tail wieght.

At the very least, it is a more *solid* feeling racquet with more plowthrough than the TT100p. If you're a "middling 3.5", you may not notice a difference like I do at a 5.0 level. I really liked the TT100p, I just like the Pro 100p better, especially on serve, which is the one area I found the TT100p to be noticeably lacking for my game.

Everything is relative. Are you going to generate power with it as easily as a wide beamed Babolat? No, I think not. But the Phantom Pro 100p is not a weakling racquet and it is not at all hard to generate power with it. I've had mine since last Fall and have used probably 7 or 8 different string set-ups in it so far, and I sometimes have more issues with it having too much power rather than not enough. I find myself stringing it up tighter and tighter.

Anyone wanting to move from a poly to a multi should really give Technifibre Multifeel black a try. This multi has some playing advantages that make it a good choice for younger and older players who have suffered from injuries. I like this string a lot because of three basic reasons, good tension mainly, nice snap-back for good spin production and comfort. The string also has good power without sacrificing control. The one disadvantage is durability. Really nice string , especially in the Phantom Pro 100.

Has anyone put a leather grip on the PP100P, and has some impressions to share?

I have played a lot with the 93P, and prefer its headlight balance, so I am trying to get something approaching in the PP100P. It will probably increase static weight to around 320g, but that's not really an issue for me.

Any feedback is really appreciated.

if you like more feedback and sharp bevels, I would suggest putting a leather grip.. its great! It will make it a little headlight that you may feel the difference but it won't change the swing weight...

If you can take the additional weight, I'd second the leather grip. It feels awesome. I love the feel, although it makes it slightly too heavy for my cadence.

Weight under buttcap is how I have mine. I have it quite localised at the bottom to get maximum affect with minimal weight. I like it a lot. Definitely makes the frame swing easier and faster. As a result my shots have a bit more on it too. I have tried weight in the hoop at different locations with varying amounts of weight and the one that seems to work best for me is right under the butt cap. Hope it works for you. I used TW tungsten tape and cut them down to half gram weights.

I hit with Phantom 100 and 100p today.
I could not tell any difference.
Could barely tell the difference compared to 93P also.
Just too many variables, and you never get the same ball twice.
O-ports have muted feel? Didn't notice.

Only thing I noticed was 93P is heavier when I pick it up.
But, swing feels all the same.
