Post here some upsets you foresee will/could happen in the first round.

For me, I just placed some money on Wawrinka to take out Nalbandian.
So much for the Fed-Nalby semi!! :D

Hope you didn't bet too much money. Didn't Nalbandian get to the semis of Rome and nearly beat Federer? Sounds like he's playing alright.

Anyway he is playing Gonzalez next round and IF he wins he would be playing Haas?

Well, but this past week in the world team cup he went 0-2, losing to Berdych and Volandri. So he's playing erratically, though I personally think he'll fix it by the time the first round comes about.

fed will have no trouble...clement withdrew unfortunately...

gonzo-safin will be interesting

roddick-martin could end badly

blake-srichapan will be entertaining to say the least...if blake does win he is gonna have a heck of a time w/ almagro...

nalbandian-wawrinka could be good, but wawrinka better have a good day

Jean-Christophe Faurel (think guy who took blake to 4 at aus open rd. 2 this year)-Olivier Rochus will be a shotmaking battle (both guys are quite small)

Verdasco-Chela will be a classic clay court match

nadal-soderling could be tight if soderling is playing very well

and call me crazy but I gonna go out on a limb and predict hewitt goes down or really struggles w/ hernych

Hewitt is so off his game right now. He'll either lose that match or barely win in five. The only good match he's played this year was at Davis Cup where he absolutely thrashed that guy from Belarus (not Mirnyi, the other one).

Roddick has a hell of a time with a first rounder against Martin. Monfil v. Murray will be very interesting if both players can get their heads into the match. They seem to zone out a lot during matches and that has lead to their spotty results. Lots of talent though.

Baghdatis may lose to Portas. Baghdatis sucks on clay and Portas sucks everywhere else, but is quite a decent player on clay. Drop shots like crazy. I predict a 4-set win to Portas.

Ouch tough luck to the Americans this year. Blake is up against Paradorn in the first round. Roddick drew Martin and Spadea is playing Davydenko. Gimelstob has a first-round match with someone I've never heard of but should he win that, he'll play Federer. Paul Goldstein plays Grosjean in the second round. Kevin Kim will meet Nadal in the second round.

Yeah. No American is making it to the third round this year. Again.

bad luck for James that he will play Almagro in second round... He will get through Paradorn though, because Thai player could be just about THE worst claycourt player in the 128 draw.. yes he is that bad on clay..

16-32 career record if you include challengers. (Data from setratings.com - could be off by a couple. About half of those 16 wins seemed to be from claycourt challengers he played back between 2000 and 2002)

0-5 claycourt record this year, with losses to Stepanek, Berdych, Monaco, Navarro Pastor, and Serra.

2-7 claycourt record last year.

...yeah, he's that bad on clay.

Yep - and that guy was Vladimir Voltchkov, whose current ATP ranking is a world-beating 483.

(To be fair, Hewitt DID play a bunch of good matches midway through the hardcourt season - he got to two finals in a row, in San Jose and Las Vegas, losing to Murray and Blake. But before the finals, he did have a bunch of convincing-looking wins over guys ranked in the 50-100 range.)

Thanx very much,Max G for the information.:DI didn't know that. I quess that means that probably Blake will win.But..in tennis..you never know..;)

I wouldn't put Almagro as the overwhelming favorite over Blake. Blake is improving his clay game, and with his speed he should be a good contender.

I like Mashona Washington's chances over Maria Sharapova. She is +803 and has 1-3 record against Maria. I'm giving Mashona 7 1/2 games (-105).

A surprise would be that Roger has been broken twice by a qualifier in the 1st Rd. of RG 2006 and could lose this set, but it looks like he's breaking back now. :)

Roger's match is really really close, at least for the first 2 sets. It's quite odd actually, seeing as tho he doesn't have rustiness as an excuses, and he is facing a qualifier.

Roger always struggles against unknown players he hasnt faced, hopefully if he advances his next match is easier then this one.
