Give the man a break. He is Devastated. Wouldn't you be if Federer is hogging all the slams for himself and be evil selfish man ? Share the wealth,,,,how can you be so selfish ?

Confidence? Oh yeah, ofcourse cause reaching the Wimbledon final and losing out to the greatest of all time by a few points here and there is really harmful to a players confidence, isn't it?

Greatness as a tennis player isn't achieved by sharing.

If it's his confidence, he needs a little time to gain some perspective. In all honesty, he's never played better in his entire career. I hope he recognizes this sooner than later. The sport is much better with him playing like he is now.

Larry- If you're reading this, time to start working on that return of serve of Andy's.

No, it's not "lack of confidence". He is just plain tired - emotionally, mentally, physically. He just needs a week or two at home on the lake, he'll be fine. Eventually when the sting wears off he'll use that match to get even more fired up to get to another final.

Well then he should have put away one of those 30 set points he had to go up 2 sets.

Loser.

Roddick doesnt deserve anymore than the slam he has with classic chokejobs like that

Well roger did admit that last year's final hurt his confidence a bit and it was clearly visible given how he he played after wimbly. It always hurts more when you are so close to winning and just a few points here and there decide it. Anyways, I guess it's a good think he's skipping davis cup.

Indeed. It was even worse Roger had to play Canada Masters in a week after Wimbledon because of Olympics. He was clearly shaken and not himself in a loss to Giles Simon.

He's fatigued, he's emotional and he's probably hurting a little both physically and mentally. It's understandable.

I don;t understand how a man that claims to be loving the game of tennis, can be so hateful and disrespectful to guys and a whole era that can play beautiful tennis and actually does EVERYTHING better than himself. How a guy that has done absolutely nothing in tennis, has not ever experienced a big tennis stage, can say something about a guy losing 4 GS finals to the same player, and describe him as a loser. How a total internethooligan for Pete Sampras thinks he can judge who does and who does not deserve to win Slams. I just don't get how you come so full of hate towards anything and anyone NOT beating Roger Federer.

Biggest chokefest in history: Wimbledon 2001, R 16.. Sampras served to stay in the match at 6-5, going for a fifth consecutive wimbledon and couldn't deal with it.

Good move IMO, he needs to recharge and regroup, and will hope to make an assault during US Open Series.

He would be running on empty (emotionally and physically) if he played such big matches (i.e crowd, occasion) so soon after Wimby, and on CLAY no less.

Seriously, why do you even watch tennis ???????

Roddick surely needs a break ; he must be devastated after the loss . Hopefully he comes back recharged and continues his good form he's shown in this wimbledon

I believe that it is an injury(more than fatigue and devastation). No matter what the circumstances in the past, Andy has always been eager to compete for his country.

if anything, he is more confident he can win another slam now.

He just needs some time off so he can regroup and come back stronger. I fresh start.

He watches hoping for someone to beat Federer. When it doesn't happen he vents on here.

Its not just that ....

All he does is whine, whine and ..........................whine more about recent matches ! ( very few exceptions )

That's such a beautiful place. One of my favorite things to do is have dinner at the Hula Hut then chill by the lake.

The game of tennis, the fans and more importantly, this website deserve much better than a troll like you clogging up this forums with your drivel.

Get a clue!

Roddick withdraws from Davis Cup, citing hip injury. While I sort of believe it's his hip, I'm pretty sure his withdrawal has a lot to do with his bruised confidence after yesterday's loss.

I am sure a lot of it has to do with how emotionally spent he is right now. I hope he rebounds from this and comes on strong for the summer. Adding a healthy and hungry Roddick to the mix is great for the sport.

Of course, I didn't realise that! Doh!

Roddick would have surely appreciated it if Federer would have let him have it out of courtesy. Then, Roddick could claim he'd finally beat him, couldn't he.....?

Come on Fedace, I see your point, and as a Fed fan, I'd given up in the fifth set hoping Fed would do it. It wouldn't have bothered me if he hadn't. But to let Andy win....?

No top player does that in tennis i.e be soft on the other.

Was Sampras soft on Agassi(US Open) and Ivanisevic(Wimbledon)?
Was Nadal soft on Federer(French)?.

It is cruel, but that's how it goes. They are soft outside the court, not inside.

Hopefully the US team can do it without him. Fish can win one off of Cilic, Bryans should be money, but if they go with Blake over Querrey, there might be some trouble there. Blake just doesn't have his speed anymore or the attitude to fight back when he's down.

You may be right. OTOH, when Roddick slipped and hyper-extended his knee it is very possible that he didn't feel it right away. Anyone who has played sports long enough has pulled something or felt soreness that didn't reveal itself until after waking up the next day.

I think Roddick just wants to make sure he is 100% for the hardcourt season. If you look at the rankings he doesn't have many points to defend coming up and he has a great chance to get back in the top 5.Also Djokovic has a lot to defend especially after winning the year end event so Roddick would have a great chance to get close to Djokovic before years end.I don't think he will catch him by then but would have a good chance at the start of next year. This is a key time in Roddick's career so he just wants to make sure he's 100%.I think you will start to see him focus less on Davis Cup and I really wouldn't blame him.

I am willing to bet Roddick pulled out to focus on his training for the US Open. After realizing how well he is playing, he probably wants to give himself the best chances to win the Open.

Fed didn't mind bailing out on Queens Club and he WON the French.....it is understandable that Roddick might need to recharge his batteries and regroup after such a disappointing loss

Possibly but I seem to recall that Roddick really loves playing Davis Cup.

So perhaps its a combination of both, physical soreness that he didn't feel during the match (adrenalin) and just needing rest from a long two weeks. Whatever, he'll be back soon enough.
