True. I'd love to live in a world of fairies and unicorns like he does, must be nice to have absolutely no connection with reality--plus we know he never went to Stanford, which makes it all the more tragic. If Whitlinger keeps his job that would be quite the coup on his part.

Yes, Fawcett is very good. Just to clarify, his four losses are in bold font, and the other seven scores are his wins.
Hsu has been a top 10 blue chip for years. Wilczynski has never been higher than #21.
Stanford will have twelve good players on the roster next year. How good will the top six be? And will they have better luck with injuries? Those are the unanswered questions. I think Fawcett and Hsu will at least compete for the top six in singles, but there are six returning upperclassmen who are favored for those spots, assuming Paige et al. are healthy, and remember that most of those six have been compared to various top ten players on the ATP tour.

What did he say?
I just watched Tom Fawcett play in Tiburon against a solid seasoned pro Matt Reid, and even though Tom lost 5 and 5, I was really impressed by his performance. Very solid game, good attitude, and he was up and serving for the set in both sets... Missed his opportunity to to win either but still very positive match. Will he play #1 on the team...?

Not really. Morissey and Romanowicz were upset early. Paige lost to a player from Gonzaga. Hsu and Fawcett were positives but keep in mind the northwest region is not the strongest and Stanford did not dominate it.

in my opinion "solid" is a negative term to describe a player's game.
not sure how you define "dominate" but being the only team with two players in the semis, and winning the title, surely comes close to that.

En route to quarters loss, Paige beat three seeds, including projected No. 2s for Oregon and Berkeley. And in doubles Strobel and Paige lost to No. 1 Cal team in a breaker. Those Bears were ranked in top ten of country. Card are definitely coming on. Can't wait for season to begin!

it is bit odd in that whenever a young top junior comes into NCAA, they usually do really well in their 1st year and they taper off at Stanford, example being Alex Clayton.
I wonder if there is some level of figuring you out after the 1st year by your opposing players, somewhat similar to Pro tour.
I'd say waning motivation, injuries, improvement level differences and coaching have more to do with a player tailing off as they mature thru their college career.

I would expect Paige to play 4-6. Would be strange if he didn't start. Also don't forget about Strobel either

Fawcett and Hsu are two of the top freshmen in college this year. Fawcett played a strong challenger earlier this month, and played a very good match, leading in set 1 and 2, even had a couple set points, against a seasoned pro who made it to the semis in this event. Sam Querrey won the title.
So why would you not expect someone like Fawcett to go deep in a college championship? Like epaige said, Cal has had a strong team in recent years,
and none of their players made it to the semis. Having two freshmen in the semis is a great achievement! A little respect, please.

Or Stineman, who actually is the type of player you would call "solid." Has a pretty big serve, decent movement, and not much else. He should be able to charge the net and get points against all but the best guys at #6, and he has pretty consistently won at that slot. I'd be surprised if he wasn't playing 5 or 6, especially against subpar teams.
But the truth is Stanford should be pretty solid this year. They won a lot of matches at 1, 5, and 6 in the past. Their 1 is back, and as we've demonstrated, they have depth. The issue has always been dubs, 2, 3, and 4. Fawcett, Romanowicz, and Hsu are huge improvements at those three slots, and dubs will be much better. They should be around the 12th-16th in the country, which sadly is a big improvement over the last two years.
