Tea

I work in an office all day. I like to exercise 3 / 4 times a week, preferably playing tennis otherwise running.

Quick question; if you're going to drink potentially a zillion cups of tea a day, bearing in mind my exciting lifestyle, what tea would you suggest and why?

WHY are you drinking a zillion cups of tea a day ? (Ignore this question if you are English, hehe).

If i had to drink any tea, i'd go for some herbal tea, something like chamomile. Why ? It's calming.

Just google around for healthy teas. I did come across some while google about gall-stones.

Regular tea has tannin, and that's not so good since it impedes iron absorption -- or so i read in the 80's.

One cup would be the max for me. Anything more, and i'd be worried about getting some kind of addiction/habituation.

I like English Breakfast and Darjeeling the best and then Earl Grey. Sometimes I mix these with a lemon, apple cinnamon or mint teas.

I'm definitely more of a coffee drinker but sometimes go with tea in the afternoon. I sometimes drink tea in the morning if I start a pot of coffee going and I don't feel like waiting for a hot drink.

Cheers guys, I'm currently on the Peppermint. Not sure why but sometimes it even gives me a kick. Will be experimenting until I find the right tea for me!

I like Peppermint as well but we don't stock it in the office. I like to mix the traditional English teas with something that gives it a kick.

Not a coffee drinker, but I do drink tea and tea-like concoctions all day.

In the morning one or two full-bodied caffeine tea. Think English Breakfast, Irish Breakfast, or pure Assam teas. I drink these with a splash of milk, and sometimes just a tiny bit of sweetener if the tea has some bitterness.

In the afternoon, I usualy switch to green tea. These have a more delicate taste, so I often use one that has some additional flavoring (ginger, jasmine, etc). No milk or sugar needed here. I also have some "herbal teas" which aren't really tea at all (Twining's Lemon & Ginger is pretty good).

In the evenings, I may have a cup of some decaffeinated tea or an herbal thing. (Twinings decaffeinated Lady Grey or Earl Gray, or Celestial Sweet Coconut Chai are good ones for this time of the day.)

All this talk about tea - so I got a combo Darjeeling and Mint Medley.

No Chinese tea drinkers here? I used to when I was growing up as my mother picked it up from Chinatown but we don't do that when we go to Asian grocers these days.

Holy sh*t! That's my mix exactly, except English Breakfast>Darjeeling>Earl Grey>Jasmine. wow!

I drink 4-5 cups of tea a day. We don't have much choice here in Bulgaria so I drink only Ahmad tea.

I drink a Japanese Sencha green tea every day. It has caffeine, so I wouldn't recommend any more than two or three cups a day though. Some people find green tea grassy tasting, but that is because they are drinking the Chinese green tea, which is actually yellow in color. The Japanese green is far better tasting in my opinion.

I also really enjoy quality Japanese green teas, which are a very pleasant way to ingest caffeine.

Agreed, they are splendid. Very smooth and fresh.

I am quite serious about tea, and always black, green and herbal tea at hand so I can gradually drink those with less caffeine later in the day. Coffee takes precedence though..

Japanese Green tea is usually smoother than other Green teas but I suspect that this is process rather than the actual leaves. I find the additional smoothness of tea and coffee with Keurig-brewed drinks.

I hate Tea and everyone in my family likes it except me and just recently I tried to have Black Tea and hated it then I put milk in it and just had it as normal and it still made me gag lol but I remember drinking Tea with sugar and I liked it but my Nanna made it and since she passed away I never knew how much she put in cause I've tried to put sugar in but it just doesn't taste the same as Nanna's did!!

I like black tea and oolong. Not a fan of green or herbal tea.

I like Oolong as well but haven't had it in ages.

I recall visiting a San Francisco Tea Shop in China Town in the 1990s and the prices for tea in the shop were hard to believe. I'd guess that they are a lot higher today. I guess some Chinese really take their tea seriously.

I just have a pre-packaged masala chai (includes milk powder) from a packet which you just mix in hot water. Many companies are now selling it. There are also ginger and cinnamon flavors.

Ceylon (Sri Lankan) is my favourite, with milk, no sugar.

As long as it's strong and has a bit of milk in, it's good by me.

I agree, "Ginger Masala Chai" got sum kick to it (my current fav). Chamomile and Peppermint are classic, lemon peel and regular ginger are great for sore throats. But as an athlete, I would go with Fuze Unsweetened iced tea with Lemon wedge. It's just the most refreshing thirst quencher after a workout besides water.

Uummm... you know that's not tea, right?

It's tea alright, and just a little bit more ;) (Please excuse my non-dominating thumb).

While 'everything stops for tea' I would also suggest an "everything in moderation" approach: maybe cut down from a zillion to a million. :)

Granny's always ravin' and rantin',
And she's always puffin' and pantin',
And she's always screaming and shouting,
And she's always brewing up tea.

Grandpappy's never late for his dinner,
Cos he loves his leg of beef
And he washes it down with a brandy,
And a fresh made pot of tea.

If you feel a bit under the weather,
If you feel a little bit peeved,
Take granny's stand-by potion
For any old cough or wheeze.
It's a cure for hepatitis, it's a cure for chronic insomnia,
It's a cure for tonsillitis and for water on the knee.

Tea in the morning, tea in the evening, tea at supper time,
You get tea when it's raining, tea when it's snowing,
Tea when the weather's fine.
You get tea as a mid-day stimulant
You get tea with your afternoon tea
For any old ailment or disease
For Christ sake have a cuppa tea.

Whatever the situation, whatever the race or creed,
Tea knows no segregation, no class nor pedigree
It knows no motivations, no sect or organisation,
It knows no one religion,
Nor political belief.

It's not tea. There aren't tea leaves in it. Folks still call those 'herbal teas' but the terms tisane or herbal infusion are more correct.

I like Assam in the morning for a rich kick, Twinings Irish Breakfast is a good cheap alternative with some Assam in the blend, and then spiced rooibos (not tea) in the afternoon or evening because it can be robust but contains no caffeine.
