Tennis glove

I live in south florida and I'm seriously considering a glove of sorts for my racquet hand. it's just brutal down here in the summer with the heat and humidity and no matter what I do, my grip becomes too saturated to hold on to it properly - especially during serves. Anyhow, I use tourna grips, use wrist bands and towel off often, but ultimately, when it's really warm it becomes a problem. Does anyone have any experience with gloves and which ones to consider. I know it looks goofy, but I think I have to give it a go.

I use a glove - only when practicing. Just lose too much touch when playing. I buy the racquetball gloves the sporting goods stores sell next to the tennis stuff.

I guess playing earlier in the AM or later in the PM is out of the question.

And there are other options to tourna grip. I like the Head overgrips better and think they do a better job. And they're cheaper. You should try all the brands.

i ran with a batting glove once when i had a huge and mean blister on my hitting hand. i hated it but it allowed me to keep playing. touch was absolutely absent.

I always thought of using a pool glove which is thinner. I want to know what Nadal uses to strap his fingers, because my medical tape leaves a very sticky residue

man oh man i was just thinking about this today. i have developed a lot of calloused skin on my racquet hand that i am always picking at where blisters had formed previously. i wanted to begin wrapping my fingers to avoid further blisters. i thought i would just go pick up some medical tape. maybe i will wait to see the answer to your question.

edit: hmmmm....ever tried coating the area to be wrapped with vaseline first?

Have you ever been to Florida in the summer? You sweat day and night here, there is no cool off period.

i live in fl. and i sweat like crazy. i know this is off the op but i handle the wet grip issue by rotating 3 racquets and changing every change over and let the sun dry out the grips.
i do the same with wrist bands which i use double width and change them very frequently during a match. i use wilson pro over grip
this works for me.

Tennis gloves used to be fairly popular. My dad used one for many years of playing in Virginia in the summer. I tried, but never could get the feel of playing with one. They are pretty rare now and I didn't even know that you could still buy them until seeing this thread. Overgrips have taken the place of tennis gloves in preventing the leather grips from getting soaked and even falling apart.
One thing you could do is put a new overgrip on every few games. You can change them in just a few seconds if you get good at it.

This makes sense, since a glove will just insulate the hand and make more perspiration there.

Rain glove

I have to play in a wrist brace. As a bad "sweater", wetness is an even bigger issue with the brace. Gloves help (batting gloves hold up the best), but when the brace and the glove get wet, it takes longer than I'm comfortable with on changeovers to change both of them. Also, I often don't know the wet has snuck in until the racket flies out of my hand on a serve. Broke a couple of them that way last year. :( Gorilla Grip or such (the sticky rag) helps, but only goes so far once dampness arrives.

I've just learnt that golfers now have rain gloves. Apparently these things continue to grip even when wet. AAMOF, I believe you get them wet when you put them on in order to make the "gripping" happen. Any experience with them out there? TIA

Bump. Anyone know if rain golf gloves are the best?

Been happily using them for years. Every brand I've tried works just fine. The cheapest - and least "fancy looking" - Rain-X, may be the best. I can squeezed my hand into a fist and have water drip out, yet still be able to serve. The most fun is having a nearby lady check yer grip size. :D

Does the Rain-X wear out quickly?

The palms wear holes, but not all that quickly. But, I wear a wrist brace under it and it's the edge of that thing that causes the holes to develop. It actually seems to hold up quite well considering how flimsy it feels. All the brands come in pairs, so you can become popular with yer golf friends who enjoy free gloves.

The glove can actually make things feel a little "slick" before anything gets wet. I'll sometimes wet it a bit before I start playing.
