The Babolat Pure Strike Project Two Zero Thread

I for one like the OG text design from the pics. The finished one is okay, but I would’ve done with one text design and expand it.

Ouch, did not like that design at all. P07 is a legendary design. Really liked the 2014 version aswell. Both of them are a bit minimal and not so busy. But the Pure Strike text on the side on this one almost made me nauseous.

Great paintjob, hope they soften up to 64/65 RA and actually deliver on what they are promising. High hopes for this release.

Oh please tell me they arent going to use that horrific lettering on the frames??? It looks cheap, naff and crappy...

Its seriously crappy isnt it? Wow theyve really tanked on this, it looks like Volkl style italics..really makes me take a second think about sticking with the new frame, part of the attraction for me apart from a good frame are the cosmetics, this looks dire...

Got into the Strikes bit late… Bought one at new year and one recently, and after mods I am really happy with it.
Dont have any complaints so I doubt that can make it noticeably better. Ok, more of everything is always nice… bot not realistic.

Dont like the new paint job so will probably got more of old ones at discounted price. Then again, can get them now for 90 euros, witch is already pretty low, but I wonder how lower it will get...

Where can you find them new for 90€?

Yep agree, looks like zero thought went into this...what annoys me aswell is how much they are protecting its release date as if its some kind of incredible new product, they never pushed its marketing, hardly anyone on the tour ATP/WTA uses it and yet they are acting as if its the next best thing in tennis? I like the frame a lot but if they don't comment soon on its release then im going to switch to Yonex, im a single handed lefty who likes to volley, why not?

It’s due most likely this Fall. Thiem is currently using it under the PS V2 PJ. Also idk why you are complaining about it. If you can’t wait, then you can unwatch this thread (assuming you are watching it) and never hear about it again.

Note 'Endorsed on Tour', not apparently 'Used on Tour'...

Again, I - and, no doubt other cynical, world weary people, would still prefer to see some relatively concrete proof that Thiem is in fact using this new racquet, not just 'endorsing' it, before we jump on the bandwagon; @Babolat Official certainly elegantly sidestepped the question didn't he? (Remember that this is the company that brought you graphite/tungsten, the tennis equivalent of 'dieselgate'.)

Usually around end of tennis season, maybe US Open time. Rackets don't tend to be announced too far in advance of release and I will tell you exactly why - They still want to sell the current model for as much money as possible before it becomes discontinued, if they announce new one sales will drop on current model almost immediately.

Not really sure why you are threatening to leave them though but I'm sure Babolat are trembling in their boots now!

For me, this racket the Wilson clash 98 and next Ezone 98 are on the radar as future buys but it will all depend on being comfortable on the arm and still enough pop and control to compare with a racket like the DR98.

If it's only on one side, I guess you could keep that side down, and try to forget about it. Talk about ignoring the Anna Wintour rule - put everything on, and then take one thing off - PLEASE RECONSIDER!!

Saw a bunch of players with the 17 when it came out. Now I don’t see any. Clearly an overhyped frame. A less spinny, less powerful, equally uncomfortable Babolat.

A lot of these Pure Strike players moved on to Yonex VCORE and Wilson Prostaffs from what I’ve seen. Or back to the Pure Aero.

I've actually switched from wilson pro staff rf97a, six one 95 16x18, babolat pure drive to pure strike 18x20 2017 @46/44 lbs with a multifilament and it's a dream.

Mine is modded to 340g, I play division A league and on my debut match against a relegated Super A team I beat an 18 year old.

Me too, from RF97A to a modded (also 340g) PS17 18 x 20, played excellent with it for about 2 years now, currently migrating to a Pure Drive Tour Plus.

Watched the Provincial Juniors practice today on Clay. 5 Yonex frames and 2 babolat Pure Aeros. i can't recall the last time I saw a Pure Strike 2017 in the wild.

For such a highly rated frame it's odd how under-represented it is at my club. I hope that Babolat doesn't rest on those "high scores" and deliver merely a new paint job. The racquet needs more comfort to go with the whole control frame genre.

If it’s true that Thiem has switched to the new frame under 2017 pj I’m guessing they have changed some aspects of it.

Love the design and color scheme they chose. As a professional graphic designer of 20 years IMO this is anything but lazy. The typeface on the side was thoughtfully selected and most likely an edited form of font space ranger. It uses the charcoal gray for two sets of the type design on the side and magenta for one, which is exactly the proportion of stripes on the side of the racquet - 2 gray stripes and one magenta. It sticks to the newer PS brand so many people love by keeping it mostly white. Also, it uses another bright color - the bright orange was great and the bright green for the Wimbledon version excellent as well. Magenta was a really nice choice. Happy it wasn’t the design originally posted in this thread as that would have been lazy.

I don't know which is worse; that they ruined a nice clean design, or that they apparently thought really long and hard about it before they ruined a nice clean design?
Maybe Wilson should put red and white 'W's all over Peter Fig's nice clean designs?

FWIW they could've just put two grey bands and one red band on one side of the throat for example. Also, lol Thiem's face; my cat has the same facial expression when he's taking a dump.

I think I'll sell my white Project one7

I'll never sell mine. :)
Have two with the P07 prototype design that also have matched specs. They look too nice to ditch (and also play really great).

Just saw the pic on Tennisnerds instagram and they look slightly better there than in the pic in this thread. However I don't get why they don't use the same text design along the throat as with the other models.

If the RA is max 64 i ll give it a try, for now the Prince textreme tour 100 (310) fits the Bill and plays Very similar to project one but with better feel and comfort

IMO the 18x20 is much better because you can string it at low tensions and don't need to string so often.

The racquet has very good control and comfort. It plays like the wilson pro staff 90 series.

I would never string an 18x20 with poly at 53 lbs like they do at TW because it will be very harsh and will give you a lack of feel, power and spin.

Especially with a shaped poly full bed, I will be stringing in the low 40's.

I have strung the 16x19 with a poly hybrid with multi mains and poly crosses@55/50 lbs.

The first hit felt very uncomfortable and it was difficult to get the first serves in, whereas the 18x20 it was a different case.

IME, stringing Poly strings at low tensions (40lbs and lower) tend to reduce the playability duration and string's life meaning I have to string more frequently.

The more a Poly string moves and stretches at ball impact, the quicker the string will "die". Poly strings move and stretch a lot more at lower tensions.

In a dense pattern you would want to string 4-6 lbs less than what you normally do in an open pattern.

Otherwise it will be like a board.

like the new paintjob actually. Interesting to see how this one plays

I really like the old pure strike, I never played with it consistently but I'd hit with it maybe once every 2 weeks with my friends one. I really think that it feels much plusher then most babolats.

The new pure strike colour from photos with the lighter lava colour is really nice

You switched because you wanted easy power and spin?
