Eight times this year, three of them at RG.Anyone has the stats on how many times Thiem loses first set, but goes on to win?
Hopefully he will qualify for the WTF
I believe soGiven that he can't gain any more ranking points from 250s; do these points count towards the WTF?
Make it 9. I just had a feeling it was a lot of times, never checked it out.Eight times this year, three of them at RG.
Of course he is money hungry. And to be honest he should earn as much as he can while he can. Organizers are most certainly paying him a lot in addition to prize money for participation, he is working, don't know what is there to be surprised about.No.7 Thiem is playing Stuttgart where he
1) doesn't defend a single point of his ranking;
2) can't add a single point to his ranking. Weird.

Is he money hungry? Like seriously he's 42-11 this year already. Stop playing dude
Have a look at his non countable tournaments, so many points just sitting there. Means if he fails to defend a title or defend points at one stage, they'll bump up and help his ranking but seriously he has 12 tournaments that dont count to his ranking. Stop!
The following count towards "best six (6) results from all ATP World Tour 500, ATP World Tour 250, ATP Challenger Tour and Futures tournaments." For now, Thiem holds 4 ATP 250 clay titles, one ATP 500 hard court, and one ATP 250 final (Munich). Winning Stuttgart should get him 90 points. Thiem also is probably heading for 9th or 10th seed at Wimbledon due to their seeding points system. Raonic and Gasquet had SFs in the last two years, so should be ahead of Thiem in that seedings system. Berdych also is a minor issue. Thiem would need to win Stuttgart and make the Finals of Halle next week and that might be enough to keep him at 8 or above. It would be nice if their was a live Wimbledon seedings tool on the net.No.7 Thiem is playing Stuttgart where he

Thiem is acquiring a certain match toughness from all this play, but his serving is going downhill. Thiem got his serve percentage up to 60% today from 53% against Groth. Thiem has had 14 double faults in Stuttgart over two matches. Earlier this year he had an extremely low DF rate. This is well down from his Acapulco serving levels. In the Tomic final Thiem had 78% first serves, 22 aces, and 1 DF. He was around 75% first serving for that weekend. I pray that somehow the less strenuous play on grass allows his serve to recover. Some very minor issue has the Thiem serve off and I believe its hampering him on run around forehands. At least Thiem is skipping Nottingham. Thiem seems dedicated to playing events in German speaking countries and has wisely added Hamburg to his schedule after Wimbledon where the 2-4 seeds look to be RBA, KA, and Paire, so likely he's guaranteed to pick up 500 points (or net 250-340).

Wow, Thiem almost gave this one away blowing a 5-0 lead in that 2nd set but he managed to steady the ship just in time. This is his 2nd victory over Federer this year!
He is now the only top 10 player apart from Djokovic and Nadal to hold a positive H2H against Federer!

Finally a new guy that has my attention. I'm officially strapped in for the ride. (or die)
Rafa is out so now Thiem only has to keep ahead of Berd brain.Isn't Thiem, with Rafa's confirmed (or, in Octobrina's words, maliciuosly gossiped about) absence, effectively ranked 6th for the purpose of Wimbledon seeds? Even if he gets pushed back 2 seeds because of Mr. Haircut and Reeshard, isn't he still slotting in the 8th seed? I hope someone at Wimbledon has watched tennis in the past 3-4 years and knows that the only thing to do to Berdych is to seed him down
Or am I reading the whole thing wrongly? It is possible, I though I read on today's match thread that Thiem was lucky to win, he-he...., so I'm clearly imagining things at times.
Six more against Fed, but I think the one in the 2nd set breaker was the last one. I thought near 60% first serves was passable today given that he was not using the Super kicker heavily on first serve. Still something wrong, but at least we are assured he's taking the week off before Wimbledon. Very likely to meet Fed again in Halle in SF or Final. Nishikori is the number 2 seed, so we'll see. I wonder if the draw is out?Great analysis on the seeding/points, very informative. As for the serve, I have the feeling that, in addition to whatever ails him, Thiem is also starting to realize how much more easy it is to win direct points on the serve and he might be pushing a bit harder than he should. But there's no excuse for all these DF's; some were on very important moments. Can't afford this vs Fed.

Thiem has a great draw in Halle. The major roadblock may be Kohly before the SF with potentially Nishikori.Someone seemed to say in the match thread that they're seeded in opposite halves but need to see the draw for that.
Thiem needs just some more work on the serve in general and he'll be very effective on grass. He can hit very good serves to the righties' BH side but, IMO, needs a better slice to the FH. He tried a few so it's coming. He seems to have done his homework for grass- flatter serve, lots of net attacks including s-and-v, keeping the ball low on the BH. Very impressive but from Thiem (and his team) this is to be expected. He takes his craft seriously (Nick, are you listening, mate? You too, Bernie)

Blonde Thiem or Natural?
Image is everything:Blonde Thiem or Natural?
haha Saw a nice 10 foot skid mark in Stuttgart, but grass damp.gotta admit he seems to give his fullest efforts to adjusting to grass,
and doing it quite nicely atm.
he also has his grass sliding that he uses i think more than others..
can't remember lots of people doing it on grass, unless i'm wrong.
it gives him nice moves at the net.
interesting.
Blonde, man! Don't care what peeps on here say haha.Blonde Thiem or Natural?

And you get to stay with your patented Bamos! which Thiem unwittingly stole. Very, very happy you're on board and that you have someone to succeed Rafa eventually. Welcome to the Thiem! May your near defection be a sign of great things to come for Thiem. Finally a new guy that has my attention. I'm officially strapped in for the ride. (or die)

You may be getting a Kokk fix shortly. Long lay off so he's going to be fighting to get back up the rankings.I agree with everyone saying blonde lol. If he went totally blonde I wouldn't like it, but he had it perfect.
Yeah Kokkinakis would have me too if he'd show up and win something. Thiem is all that though

The pic in my current avatar is classic Thiem look. He'd probably get boku promotional bucks too; image is everything!
I've liked him for a while and I'd say I was firmly on board late July with his little clay winning streak. I was expecting some nice results in the clay season and it has been a bit of a dissapointment, but fortune finally favored Thiem at the French and he's in the top 8 and ready to take advantage of the easier draws. We were definitely talking Thiem team and watching for his upcoming matches in the off-season before 2016.
Sexyclass
When did you get on the Thiem train?
If you look at some of his draws it really does look like he's been chosen from above.I've liked him for a while and I'd say I was firmly on board late July with his little clay winning streak. Thiem looked magnificent in Brisbane this year and my excitement level has been at a fever pitch really since then. Thiem had a great February and appears to be heating up again with the Stuttgart win. Thiem has won on grass, clay, and hard courts this year. I cannot believe what he is doing on grass. Just won 90% of his first serve points in Stuttgart final and his worst match on that stat this week was 86% against Fed (whose known for his first return). Sampras is pretty much the best at this stat and his career average on grass was 85%. This is scary stuff from Thiem considering he's really not serving all that well. He was 48% in the final today for first serves with 6 DFs and was never broken. Won the event with 26 DFs for the week. If Thiem continues this form in Halle (and he should), he'd have to be considered a strong contender at Wimbledon. You've picked a wonderful time to get on the Thiem. Welcome aboard!

I doubt it, maybe the WTF but I assume he will be taking a long rest after winning the USO 2016.impressive way to back up his first 1st slam SF at RG.
he already won titles on 3 different surfaces this year !
(2 on clay, 1 on hard and 1 on grass... maybe an indoor title later in the year to complete the collection ?)
He'll play the full cycle of MS1000's with one less match as a top 8 seed. Also, add in his home Vienna 500 and probably Basel too.I doubt it, maybe the WTF but I assume he will be taking a long rest after winning the USO 2016.
