To be fair, were the Z-man "just" a serve-bot, nobody would be talking about 10+ slams... etc... The guy has a 2HBH that is a gift from the tennis gods. The swinging motion is perfect and he has tons of natural power. Also, his serve is great, but he's no Isner or Karlovic... or even Raonic, as his second serve doesn't have the bite and pop of those guys'.

Actually into the Fall last year, the Zedbot had some of the best 2nd serve points won numbers the game has ever seen. He's got the reach and return to trouble these guys, but his own serve is hard for them to break, which is why he's 14-2 in his young career against servebots.

The Zedbot is armoring up in Miami and got his average 2nd serve speed to 104 mph his last match which is getting close to where he was last Summer when he won too big events back to back (Citi Open and Canadian Masters.)

Yeah, I hear you. I’ll be rooting for Zverev, but even Isner, one of the more boring players on tour, won me over a bit today. Maybe it was the 117 mph forehand he hit against Del Potro.
The secret to watching Isner is Tiebreakner; just monitor the match while watching your grass grow, but then glue yourself to the match at end of set. Then you will see his true greatness.

The reason for his success against Anderson and Isner is because he pulls a Nadal and sits a mile behind the baseline. And it drives Isner nuts that his kick serve is negated, and he just wants to prove a point, so he starts hammering 140 mph serves with no angle. Anderson and Isner are the same -- both too stubborn and unwilling to accept that someone's getting rhythm on returns.

LOL. Have a big serve and developed that very shot for a friend who hated drop shots. I'd pay big money for Sir John to pull that shot out.:D

davis cup is for the drunk crowd; it's fun, but nobody really cares afterwards
Davis Cup is top priority only for countries which never won it.
Argentina finally won it in 2016, and almost nobody cares about it lately.
Del Potro will not play again for his country, and it is OK because he already won it for good.

DROP SERVE

Isner has been using S&V occasionally this tournament. He should throw in a few more and go wide. No matter how far behind you stand, a wide serve to the backhand is harder to get hold of. Then, when Z corrects by standing closer for the return, drop the down the T bomb. Muller did this so effectively against Nadal while never serving anywhere near 140 mph. Fed did the same at Shanghai.

Isner was red hot today. Might be pretty much the best I have ever seen him play. Was really in the zone with those inside out forehands hammering Delpo's backhand, but the volleys were unbelievable. If Big Man can get down so nicely for drop volleys, why can't The One take at least a single page out of his elder brother's book and learn to frigging volley?

There's no doubt he can get the angles. But when I've watching him kick serve and volley, it gives a lot of height for his opponents to put it down at his feet -- and he's not as fast to the net as Muller either -- whose slider serve is just ridiculous, slower, and gives a lot of time to get to the net.

But yeah, even if Isner throws that in here and there, it'll at least keep Zverev true on his return position.

Isner was a beast today. Not sure if anyone on the tour could have stopped him today.

Agreed, the kick that ordinarily works so well for Isner hurts against opponents who are able to return well from deep in the back court. Fed doesn't but he just servebots better-er than Isner and takes care of business. Muller has a wicked slice which he can alternate with a swinging down the T, so it's very difficult to tell which one he's going to come up with. Yeah, the key is to keep Zed guessing. Zed loves rhythm so if Isner doesn't mix it up, he's going to struggle.

And play drop volleys and short-angle volleys whenever possible, and just stand there and wait to putaway the next ball. Zbot generally has no clue when being drawn towards the net.
