The top 6 against each other in 2009

I have chosen the top 6 because Roddick and DP had a lot of influence this year, especially in slams, way more than Djokovic and Murray. How could you possibly compare Tsonga to DP and Roddick in terms of results. Did Tsonga reach a slam final this year? How about a semi? Did he have more than 3 wins over top 6 players? Tsonga is clearly a level below the guys I mentioned. I was going to do a top 5 list, but I thought it was only fair to include Roddick since he was #5 before the USO, reached a slam final and a slam semi, owned Djokovic all year long, pulled the biggest upset in Wimbly.

Tsonga did NOTHING at slams this year, nor at MS events.

I couldn't agree more. The top 6, including Roddick, for sure, are the real deal in my opinion. Del Potro and Djokovic are the up-and-comers in that league, though, and I think they could have an extra good year in 2010...they'll make the others work even harder at the slams. It'll be an interesting year!

You did an excellent job with this comparison. Nice to read a well-researched post!

I also like ledigs' thoughts that when these guys play each other they get "practice" in a way they don't get with others. For a recent example of this, consider Nadal's match with Tsonga versus his match with Djokovic (though I prefer to not think about it - oy!)...Tsonga's good, no question, but not as good as Number 2 and Number 3.

Thanks, I agree. Those guys are currently leauges above everyone else as far as consistency goes.
