Thiem will beat Federer

Well at least that's what I hope for. Team Thiem needs a victory. Federer has won enough. With exception of some Djokovic matches possibly the first time I am rooting against Federer in years.

I doubt it. Federer is too experienced and he'll confuse Thiem. Thiem is one dimensional, hit the ball harder and try to hit lines. I doubt he will be able to do it tomorrow but if it does then I'll be happy for him.

Well logically Federer will straight set him. But Thiem is one of the hardest working guys on tour and it would be nice to see him with a trophy of this level.

Yeah, thiem can win this time. Go Thiem, Go Go Go!!

By the way, it was everytime Thiem 'can' win. Just saying.

He'll need to play perfectly like he did today. High % 1st serves and incredibly clean groundstrokes.

He has great defense, but he better be ready to run for drop shots if plans on playing that far behind the line again.

He has the game to do it but I don’t think he has the mindset.

I'll do you a deal. I'll go for Thiem if he goes on with it after winning IW. No more moronic prince of clay nonsense bending over for Rafa. If Thiem wins IW, he simply has to win RG and at least one clay M1000. Enough is enough.

But since I can't see Thiem actually holding up his end of that bargain and I couldn't handle the pain of watching him pick up a mediocre IW title and then resume his prince of clay duties, I have to go for Rojer tomorrow.

Well Federer does have a habit of letting opponents experience their 1sts after a final against him.

Federer's generous track record dates back to 2002:

2002 Milan F - Sanguinetti wins his 1st ever title
2003 Rome F - Mantilla wins his 1st ever Masters 1000 title
2005 YEC F - Nalbandian wins his 1st ever Masters Cup title
2007 Madrid F - Nalbandian wins his 1st ever Masters 1000 title
2009 USO F - Del Potro wins his 1st ever Slam title
2012 Olympic F - Murray wins his 1st ever Olympic medal
2014 Monte Carlo F - Wawrinka wins his 1st ever Masters 1000 title
2018 Indian Wells F - Del Potro wins his 1st ever Masters 1000 title
2018 Halle F - Coric wins his 1st ever ATP 500 title

So you never know what mood Federer will be in tomorrow.

I'm behind the younger guys, but not at Fed's expense. There aren't many opportunities like this left for him. So many wrote him off last fall while a handful kept the faith. Many said he couldn't win a 250 or a 500. They forgot he's the GOAT. I hope Thiem plays well and that it's a good match. Wish him the best and all that.

The only thing he likes giving our more than 1sts are lasts.

We can practically guarantee that David Ferrer will walk off into the Madrid sunset with a win over Federer.

The biggest problem of Theim's playbook is that he can only play in one dimension and that he yet has plan B.
Fed will push Theim out of his comfort zone and confuse him with mixed playing tactics. Fed is soo good at that.

Unless Fed gets some urge to stay back and trade groundies, he's got this barring a poor serving performance.

This. If it meant actual renewal then Fed has won enough. But the reality is that these guys are gutless and it's 100% on Fed's racquet as usual so let Fed win as much as much as humanly possible

Can Thiem save tennis? 99% sure he’s gonna try hard first set, choke, and then bow

I agree but Fed has huge advan in serve and big finals

Fed has the advantage of being really old and experienced.

Thiem needs to win today, because soon Fed turns 40 and will be unbeatable.

Thiem is the Future; Federer is the Past. Every Saint has a Past; every Sinner has a future. I always play fairly when I hold the Winning Hand. Just to be Neutral, like Switzerland; May the Best Younger Man Win! Thiem Team

I saw the entire match. Thiem played very intelligent tennis in both second and third set. Fed seemed like he would pull away in the third but Thiem protected his second serve very well and played big points very well. First big title well deserved, his time is coming! :)

so this prediction don't count. You said you hope. that means you didn't see the future, you just guessed

Fed had to play like how did he against Stan

He barely sliced in the match and gave confidence hitting BH to BH.

Ljubicic gave bad advice or Fed brain fart ?

When you've been in as many as Roger has I think this kind of thing just starts to happen organically. As it did today.

Are you happy now?
Anyway, let me tell you that @Checkmate is far better than you.

So pleased to see Thiem beat Federer. Looking at Nadal's breakdown of his body, he may even go out early or withdraw from the French open. I certainly would like him to lift the FO.

Well done Dominic, you’re likeable, got a great attitude and work hard.

Above all you really played with guts yesterday.

Hope you build on this important win and win a slam soon.
