Thiem wrist injury returns

Thiem has taken to social media after rumors online, to say that after returning to high intensity practice and training as he used to before the injury, he started hearing clicks and having pain in his wrist again, and as a result has pulled out of the challengers he was due to play. Apparently it is minor inflammation and he is now doing lighter training and hitting and aims to return in Estoril. He says he'll have more information about his wrist in an upcoming vlog.

Seems to me like the wrist is not going to improve and retirement may be around the corner.

That would make sense …

Edit … if the post preceding this was still there lol.

Wrist is a nasty nasty injury to have as a tennis player, because it takes a lot of strain on a daily basis

Chances are, that he will have to do another surgery to save his career, but it might be a Del Potro situation
just happy for him that he got to win a GS before this injury

He has said recently that he might retire if he doesn't finish this season in the top 100. Sounds like a death knell to me
The look on his face was very sad in the recent UTS dinner episode, where Casper Ruud was actually a real dick to him (unintentionally or not) saying "oh wow it must be so nice to not have to defend any points so you can take a break whenever you want"

Struggling with similar wrist issues as him, not surprised by his depressed look.
Really takes the fun out of tennis when you can't hit the ball without thinking about your wrist.
Wish him all the best but this sounds like retirement is close.

"light hitting"? I didn't realize Thiem knew there was such a thing.

In seriousness, though, it's just such a shame his body broke down the way it did, and when it did. Glad he managed to nab one slam before it was all over.

Ruud's dickishness finally surfacing. I have been watching him for a long time wondering when the cracks would start to show. Just too good to be true.

He's done, unfortunately. Nobody returns after a slump so long. Guys that went to hell and returned like Agassi, Haas, Safin or JMDP didn't last so long. When it lasts so long like Coria, Hewitt, Safin (2nd time around) it's permanent, maybe they can have one run when they turn back the clock (Safin Wimbledon 2008) but they can't return permanently to the top.

yeah i mean he's his usual self but i wouldn't say he comes off super well in the dinner video if you watch it - acts a bit superior imo but he's very polite always just a few things come off a bit snide/rude if you take it a certain way

I can't imagine how he is going to come back from this. Apart from his level, which was not good enough for the last 3 years, but right now he will have this mental block once again. If he is feeling pain again he will be scared not to reinjure himself once again. Basically it is nail in the coffin for him... :(

Incredibly sad story. Thiem was one of my favourite players to watch ever...

Shame this guy didn’t win more while he was at his peak. Couple of clay masters and that AO final would’ve been nice.

Next top ten I tell ya!! Get well soon domi, I broke my wrist in college and have re injured it quite a few times. There’s nothing more frustrating than not being able to fully grip and swing out without pain.

While he keeps persisting to use a 1/4 grip size with an over grip for a big man, well I think it’s a mistake and the wrist injuries will continue pile up while players go down this road,

He's been done since 2021 and it's a shame, wrist issues are dire and he had motivational issues and fatigue from winning the US Open.

Scandinavian humor and graces are weird that way

He is done imo... Sad, had a potential to win more than 1 slam.

He morally won seven French opens after Rafa retired

What is/was the injury in his wrist?

TFCC, if I remember correctly

Thiem the kinda guy to hit a drop shot by swinging for the fences
