This teaching pro hitting 100 MPH forehand all the time ? with wilson and cheap racket ? Real ?

This dude is hitting 100 MPH forehands on regular basis,,, is this real or is the Radar gun juiced up ?? and he even hit 111 MPH forehand with $13 dollar racket ... LOL.

Nosty, delete your post. The video mentions a competing store for the cheaper frame which is not allowed on this forum.

Is the gun measuring the ball speed or his racquet speed? And besides, who cares if you can hit as hard as you can into the net? What does that prove??

This guy’s a teaching pro?!
i thought it was very very tough to hit 100-111 MPH forehands, but this guy was doing it on regular basis. This radar gun was very suspicious, that's why i posted it. i wanted to see if this ball was really flying at 100 mph ???

So again we can see that creating power just isn't that hard and that technique is way more about controlling power than generating it. The cheap racket and it's cheap strings will suffer greatly against a fast, heavy incoming ball though, in both feel and control.

A bad racket can hit a ball fast but it can also destroy your arm. I know. I played with some cheap wooden rackets when I was young while my racket was being strung and developed tennis elbow. Also, control is very important too.

Yes, I'm using pocket radar with my baseball students. It is pretty accurate too, but you can set it to kph too:). 111 kph is 69 kph so maybe he did that
it does look very fast when he hits the ball and he is pretty muscular guy ?? not sure if it is really 111MPH ??

Well maybe it could be if he is just flat slapping the ball.

However I wonder why not serve the when you want to measure flat power.

And yes, rackets don't matter a lot, maybe they give you the last 3% for success against an even opponent but they don't make a huge difference, a 4.5 beats a 4.0 with a 15 dollar wall mart racket

Back in the 80's a shopping mall had a radar gun to measure your serve. No had gone over 100 mph. This muscular guy hits the ball the way this guy did and went over 100. He had no technique, he just muscled it. So I believe he can hit his forehand that hard.

This shows how easy it can be to get started in tennis. Buy some cheap racquets, go to the public courts and just work on keeping the ball in play. It's fun. Don't take lessons or bother competing until you can easily keep a slow rally going for 10 to 20 shots.

A beginner doesn't need expensive equipment any more than a beginner violin player needs a Stradivarius.

Any estimates on the speed of this forehand?

The hard thing in tennis is to hit the ball hard and keep it above the net and inside the court. Just hitting hard is a breeze if you don‘t have to worry about the net or can aim for the fences. If you become a half-decent player, you crave control with poly strings, flexible racquets etc. to tame the power and not the other way around.

Drop feed, black socks and a right leg (anchor) that swings harder than his arm :-D:-D:-D

Good players dont often post in this section for a reason

He is comparing cheapo rackets with expensive rackets. The ball not going over the net is not the point here. In fact, it makes the comparison fairer by keeping the trajectory ranges almost the same for all shots.

Besides, in the USO Arthur Ashe days, pros compete to hit cones on the court. What does that prove, since cones don't exist on a real court LOL.

It is about relative accuracy.

Similarly, here it is about relative speed.

That small radar gun he has, is that even accurate ? the ball seem to be coming off fast off the string bed. but not sure if that is really over 100 MPH ?? is that radar gun something we can buy?

I think most posters here will not be able to hit as hard as he does. He has a kind of raw athleticism not found in a lot of players.

Nosty, can you post a video of yourself doing the same and we can compare?

how can yo possibly compare ? that gun he's using, i have no idea its registering the real accurate MPH or did he really have it set at KPH ?

Just post your video and we will do the comparison ourselves. Plenty of algorithms around to determine ball speeds from videos, if you want to be quantitative.

I think you are much slower than this guy (no fast-twitch muscle fibers).

LOL, i have muscle fibers like Goffin, and can hit much harder than that guy

It's called a Pocket Radar. Yes, you can buy it.

Exactly, which is why in our program we teach that the primary "racket skill" in tennis strokes is how to "bring the ball down" into the court. As you say, it takes little specific skill to hit the ball very hard and over the net....but the real skill embedded in tennis strokes is to master is how to bring the ball down into the court after clearing the net with power. There are very few ways to do this once you get past gravity and using low power.

little too technical .. can you do it for me and let me know ? Thank you

I know this is almost a year late, but I stumbled on this in my bookmarks and was actually on my PC to do the frame calculating. Basically, his speed sensor seems to be pretty reliable as the speed numbers I get from counting frames are very close. Like within 5%

yea but that $13 racket must had super cheap string in it too. how is he hitting 110 mph forehand with that string setup

It probably has standard synthetic gut strings. These strings are actually pretty powerful despite being very cheap so it's really not an issue. They're just not going to generate as much spin as poly.

I mean, pros mostly go after equipment that reduce the power so they can get more control and spin

That stupid zoom in effect when he hits the ball...he never shows the complete path of the ball. I hate such videos

It's echoing waves from the first solid object it encounters moving away from its position, and comparing them by return time. It's just measuring his racquet head speed, each and every time.

It would be a pointless exercise even if this weren't the case, but since it is, it miraculously becomes even more worthless than that.

First off - this guy is measuring RHS not ball speed..

Secondly tennis racquets are not sports cars. A more expensive racquet does not give you more power. The power of a racquet is mostly related to its weight and length. It's just a lever basically.. So if it is not so heavy that you can't swing it fast - you can generate pretty comparable power with a racquet that is hard to play with.

I don't think so. If the speed gun is close enough it should measure the ball and not the racket (because it will be too close to measure the racket itself). Also, physics dictate that the ball's exit velocity should be at least 15% higher than the RHS on a clean hit, and I don't think any of these balls are traveling at over 120mph. Frame counting formula seems to confirm that the measurements shown are close to accurate and I believe that this disproves the idea that the gun is measuring racket head speed.

Cheers.

This is one of the stupidest things I've ever seen:
  • Hitting a tennis ball 100 mph is nothing. You can put a racquet in the hands of a moderately athletic adult man who has never played before and tell them to swing at a ball as hard as they can... they will get to 100mph.
  • The hard part is getting 100mph shots to land in the court. This guy got nothing in the court.
  • If you attempt to repeat what this guy is doing (consecutive 100% swings off of drop feeds), there is a fair chance you'll blow out your elbow. Stupid.
  • Using max ball speed to evaluate whether a racquet is good or bad is dumb.

Well interesting. Not going to lie - I never took physics in college. So I would never guess RHS is slower then ball speed off a drop feed..
Does this mean one of those racquets that measure RHS would be somewhat accurate? I think they canned those though... Haha. I kinda wanted one..
