TRU PRO (formerly Tier One Sports) Ghostwire

Hello folks,
In a facebook post, tier one has informed that early in the next year they are gonna release a new, round, soft, white co-poly, named ghostwire. It seems that it will be similar to multifilament strings in terms of softness. Who is excited?
P.S. Check out their x-mas offers, 30% discount on all the products...

I'm always excited for new strings, but let's be real... there's no poly on the market that is as soft as a multifilament, and I don't see that happening any time soon. Those are just marketing claims, like when they say "gut-like playability" or "most powerful (or softest or best playability) string next to gut" or "most spin-friendly ever." Those are just things they say, not things that are true.

I agree about the marketing hype. However, they are doing some tests in the lab witch accompanying results and numbers in the stiffness area.It has a small scientific edge at least..

The USRSA does tests to get stiffness numbers as well, but one of the caveats that they always say is that, for actual feel, you have to compare the same string types with each other, as in polys with polys, guts with guts, multis with multis, etc. Even if a poly has the same or lower number than a synthetic or multi, the poly is still going to feel and play stiffer.

I really liked Firewire Boost and was bummed that the neos-2 in that hybrid was not sold as a stand-alone since I've switched to gut/poly. Regardless of how similar/different this will be from the neos-2, a round poly offering from Tier One does sounds exciting, so I will definitely check it out as a cross to natural gut when it releases.

I don't know about that.. As a guy with elbow and shoulder issues, I can tell you IsoSpeed Cream 1.23m is pretty dang soft at a level closer to some multis.

That is the one exception that I'm not sure about. I've got some I ordered recently but haven't been able to try it out yet, and I've heard it is very soft. The thing is, from what I've heard at least, it isn't a normal poly (or co-poly) because it actually has very little polyester in it. I don't know for sure, but that's what I've heard, so it can barely even be considered a co-poly.

Ha, well that's a whole different discussion but I understand your position. For the sake of simplicity, the manufacturer and TW considers it a co-poly so it still fits the bill. Plus, it has all the characteristics of a poly other than it's got more power than your standard poly.

Went and saw the announcement myself just now, and here is the direct quote:

----------------------
What's New in 2019:

We are excited to announce the release of a new co-polyester string at the beginning of 2019.

Some of you might have participated in helping us find a name for this string. At the end we decided on Ghost Wire.

What is so special about this string?

It is a round, white, co-polyester string with exceptional tension stability. But what really excites us are the lab test results on string stiffness. The 18g Ghost Wire showed a lower string stiffness (167) than our 16g Triumph multifilament string (174).

After discussions with our manufacturer we are happy to announce that this string will also be available in 19g (1.10mm). We have not yet received the lab test results but we could imagine that Ghost Wire 19g will be one of the softest strings on the market!
-------------------------

I agree that I'm not actually expecting the string to be as soft as a multifilament, but IMO they do make strings that have great tension maintenance. I'm hoping that this will be something like a softer version of Max Power.

if you want soft, I would go with yonex copolys. they make super soft polys

I mainly play with signum pro x-perience, which is quite soft. I haven't tried yonex but from what I have seen in this forum, iso speed cream might be the king of soft polys

Excited as well. I have played with their strings off and on for a few years. Currently using FireWire Boost, love it.

ghostwire sounds promising, i will try it when it comes out
i switched from HyperG 17 to black widow 17 and tier one tour status 17
both of them are much softer than hyper G
with my PS97s i get more "feel" and power with the softer strings

I’ve been able to only play with Cream as a poly since getting a case of TE. And only as a cross. I’ve not tolerated 18g Max Power. I’ve got some proline II to try but I’ll be interested in Ghost Wire opinions.

Trying to see where my limit is as far as poly goes in a gut hybrid.

Neos-2 = Ghost Wire. Now available in sets and reels.

Just got done hitting for a couple hours with the GhostWire 17g(1.22), although I have never hit with cream this string may be the softest poly I have ever used. So so plush, amazing ball pocketing, spin is whatever because of the 18x20 pattern, control is very very good. Any of you cream lovers give this string a try! My search for a round poly is over. Can't wait to start hybrid-ing it! @TierOneSportsOfficial you guys nailed it!

Thanks for the review. Might be next in my purchase list if Proline II doesn’t provide enough comfort.

Who tried Ghost Wire as a cross?

According to Tier One earlier in the thread, it is the smooth string in the FireWire Boost poly/poly set. So I've used It as the cross string for my current setup of the last few years. It's a great smooth soft poly, perfect for crossing with their super sharp and highest spin producing Firewire main.

I didn't believe in snapback theory until I tried this setup. The sharp mains grabbing the nappe of the ball and then snapping back produce incredible spin.

How many hours before the snapback disappear?

Couldn't agree more. Been using Boost for sometime now and it definitely provides incredible spin.

The last two sessions I've hit with 19g Ghost Wire in the mains and 18g Firewire in the crosses strung 5# lower. In the reverse pattern, as opposed to FW main/GW crosses, produces really nasty ball movement for slices and drop shots. During the first hour the string bed felt kinda stiff and unresponsive. Spin was there. But, after about an hour the string bed felt great, control improved and it appeared that my spin on regular ground strokes increased. Also tried the same set up with FW crosses strung 5# higher. Cut it out after a couple of hours.

Don't understand why using FW as a cross.........

Don't understand why using FW as a cross.........

Tried it once for grins and giggles. For conventional hitting there is no real advantage, in my mind, using FW as a cross. However, as I discovered, for spin doctors and predominately slice hitters (you know, the senior 3.5/4.0 guys or those starting the game late but have reliable, non-classical strokes) - many who I string for around here - the reverse set up produces a better (more rpm?) back spin. Goofing off, I hit a couple of FH slices inside the baseline yesterday that just skipped, like a pebble across a pond. Like I said, if you have a conventional game, I wouldn't bother string it this way, but for clients who primarily slice everything that comes at them, it is worth it for them to try.

Like any poly a few hours until the strings start moving but I don't notice a reduction in spin. As stated earlier by others, this setup produces nasty spin. Some of my opponents call it my illegal strings.
How many hours of play did you get with same level of spin?

Tried two other Ghost Wire combinations this past week.

#1 Ghost Wire mains 19g with Kirchbaum Sgut 16g crosses
I strung the crosses 5# less than the mains. I have about six hours on this setup and it feels great to hit with. I should stop experimenting with different hybrids and just play with this combination. Since I tend to rely on touch more than power, it does everything predictable and accurately for me. It was comfortable and definitely produced a healthy amount of spin, but nowhere near the next combination ...

#2 Firewire 18g mains with Ghost Wire 19g crosses
I strung the crosses 10# less than the mains. So this is basically Firewire Boost on diet. Boys and girls, it is spinnilicious. Every deep ball I hit looked like it was going to go long by a foot or two and then would dive down within a foot or two of the line inside the court. After watching balls they thought would go long bounce in the court, my opponents just started swing at every ball that was going bounce near the baseline. The other thing I noticed was the first bounce on groundstrokes seemed to be more lively. The response on touch and drop shots wasn't nearly as accurate or decisive as with #1, but from baseline hitting was heavenly.

I have used both as crosses. Ghost Wire performs better with Poly mains. As I stated before you can't beat Fire Wire Boost, phenomenal in every way.
I use Creme as crosses with natural gut mains, it tones the gut down, and at the same time provides a firmer string bed. GW with gut is a little too
springy, and a little too soft IMO.

So that means that gw is more powerful and more comfortable than cream?

Yes, I thought the GW was more powerful then creme, at least in a gut hybrid. As far as comfort goes, GW may be slightly more comfortable then Creme, but not a great deal.
