Got some Ghost Wire to try out, 1.17 and 1.22. I'm not usually a string breaker but I bought both just in case. For the past 10 years I have played PP Red Devil and PP Black Force. I like soft slick poly strings.
Strung the 1.17 at 45# in a UP16. The string is marketed at "soft" but it had very little stretch while stringing. I have always equated stretch when stringing with soft, but maybe I'm wrong. Really looking forward to hitting with this tomorrow.

Ghostwire is such a versatile string. It works like Wilson Revolve, but prefer GW over Revolve. Here are the ways I use it for clients. I am using it as a cross currently with HGS and love how it just works with so many strings.

1) as a cross to soften a stiffer poly specifically shaped polys like HG, HGS, Firewire
2) as a cross with Natural Gut
3) as a cross with multifilament mains for players who don't break string frequently, but do break the multi mains but hate multis sticking out of place in a full bed of any multi.
4) as a main with multifilament crosses to for players who need more durable setups than Option 3 above.

Ghostwire has replaced Head Hawk as my go to smooth slick cross for many clients.

Yea it’s my favorite cross as well. Hope it goes on sale again soon!

So I've played 3 sets of doubles and 4 sets of singles with Ghost Wire 1.17 strung at 45 pounds in a Wilson Ultra Pro 16x19. My normal string is Pro's Pro Black Force 1.19 strung at 45 pounds.

Ghost Wire is slick and soft, very easy to string. The thing I noticed the most was tension retention. Tension has dropped very little since stringing. Some strings you account for tension loss when stringing, not this. I have another set of 1.22 that I will string at 38 just because the tension drop was so minimal.

GW is very comfortable, but I would not call it soft. Here's why I say that. I felt NO pocketing with the GW while I feel pretty substantial pocketing with the PP. You may or may not like this.

Regarding spin, I am getting more spin out of the PP 1.19 than the GW 1.17. I think that string dwell time has something to do with this.

Wrapping it up GW is a very comfortable slick string. I would call it above average for comfort and easy of stringing, just average for spin. While it is a nice string, it won't be replacing the PP at my normal tension. This may change when I string the 1.22 set at a lower tension. GW is a good string.

Black Knight 1.23 is an excellent string. Coming from playing Luxilon Alu Power and VS Gut/ Luxilon 4g. Its the best I have hit with in many years. Black Knight played excellent for 6-8hrs before it dropped off of a cliff in terms of tension in the Head Prestige Mid 93’. Consistency to the 6hr point rivals any string on the market. Great power, spin, control and easy on the arm. Best bang for the buck. (5.0 tennis) training with D1 and D2 players.

what is your tension compared to Alu and VS/4g?

Have you used sliver 7 tour? How does BK compare if so? Thanks!

I'm not @USPTARF97 but S7T is a stiffer, crisper, but also more powerful and more spin capable string that is also less linear in responding to how hard you swing, especially at the lower end of swing speeds. Black Knight for me was pretty low powered but ultra consistent throughout. It just didn't offer enough power for me when I was off balance or under pressure, and without the ultra high RHS of a younger player I couldn't shape the ball as much when really trying to spin it.

Went through a couple of reels of Silver 7 Tour. Great string in terms of tension maintenance, spin etc but the main problem was when generating a lot of racquet head speed, really stepping on the gas, it felt like mush and non-responsive. Alu Power and Black Knight when you step on the gas with those strings the responsiveness is there. Black Knight provides a little better control and better tension maintenance than Alu Power but lacks the power.

Thank you for your response, the thing is I would love to keep some part of BK for its predictability and just have a bit more free power (everything lands well in court and need more depth) .
Firewire was nice but lost confidence on swinging, I understand it's a trade off of course.
Can BK be used as a cross even though it is a shaped string (with a more powerful string in the mains)? Or would it work with a round power string in the crosses for that matter?

Try Tour Status?

I had set of cyclone tour 16 lying around and so I tried BK 17 main with CT cross @48 (Typically use BK full bed at 48/46). I like it very much. Slightly more pop and more spin with this hybrid than with BK full bed. I had lot more on the line dippers. Though control is little less than full bed BK. I am yet to try BK/GW hybrid.

^^^ Firewire is the real magic of the setup. I have not used any string to date that creates a heavier topspin or backspin shot. I'm sure any smooth poly in the crosses would do fine with Firewire in the mains.

My tennis level has jumped up a little bit just with the string change. Almost everyone I play is a close match so a few extra points per set can make all the difference between winning and losing.

was this firewire or FireWire boost?

man I thought it was a different string, looked it up and it's just ghost wire as a cross. I do like ghost wire 1.10 but this string tryout thing needs an intervention. Literally a million different strings and a billion hybrid combos, plus figuring out the tension. Luckily my racket I'm trying out is openish pattern and I'm not trying them out on an 18x20

Part of me misses trying out new strings and posting reviews but this setup I can't seem to stray from.

I think it's good, that way you can concentrate on your game. I went through a ton of strings and time and basically will be going back to my original setup

Has anyone tried ghostwire in the mains as a hybrid? I like softer mains with good tension maintenance and stiff poly cross.

If I put ghostwire 1.22 or 1.17 as a cross with velocity 16, how would you guys rate this setup? Would there be any durability issues in an 18/20?

Used both separately and thought they were above average in performance and durability. No reason to think they wouldn't work well together.

I did Diadem Impluse (multi) w ghost cross in a 16/20 and it was pretty decent. Durability would be better in an 18/20.

I have had the cases of some friends (that I string for) they have 2 frames with different patterns (blade, blx 6.1 & radicals) and my recreational-level experience is that 18x20 frames will have a considerable longer lifespam on the string job compared to their 16x19/18 versions.

GW is imo a really good cross string, I have tried/strung 17g and 19g and I am considering buying a reel of the 19g. I would keep the gage not too far from the gage used on the mains.

Did you find ghostwire controlled or similar to other soft polys where it had some extra power? I wouldn’t think it’s too powerful in an 18/20 but how did it feel and perform?

What tension did you use on the 19g? I tried ghost wire at 42lbs , it’s one of the few polys that had a lot of control at 42lbs

Out of the soft poly strings I have tried, GW is one of the lower powered. I would not be concerned at all about it being too powerful in a tight pattern. Imo it feels soft on impact but performs like a stiffer string.

I have used 19g as mains, in a hybrid in my personal frames at 53lbs and I think I could go 1 or 2 lbs lower on the next string job. I have not tried it at low tension but given how it performs I would expect good control like your experienced.

good control in the mains, I’ve used it and liked it but I only have a few hours of trying it
+1 definitely GW is one of the strings with really good tension maintenance and the playability remains pretty consistent through the lifespam of the stringbed.

How long did you find ghostwire to last in a full bed and if you tried it in a hybrid, how long did that last?

How is the tension maintenance of ghostwire? Would it last past about 15 hours and start to bag out or how long do you feel it lasts?

Give it a try, I have the 18 and 19g in an 18x20 racquet and the string plays great. It is soft and control orientated, hold tension quite well.

Can anyone compare Tier One Triumph to Head Velocity or Tecnifibre Multifeel? Looks like a good candidate for mains in a multi/poly hybrid.

Our opinion is that most polys play best at around 50lbs although the tendency of young high level players is to string somewhere in the mid 40s. For a
multifilament string on the other hand a 55-58 range sounds about right.

I've always wondered when referencing tension like this you mean strung at 50 pounds or settled in at 50 pounds of tension (strung 55ish)?

Thanks, it was an enjoyable revenge game. I have little pull on TW, so if they got rid of it then it probably won't be coming back.

I keep offering all my Clemson tennis buddies OSU and 7 points, but for some reason I can't get any of that action in SC. I even offered 12 points to several Ohioans in my neighborhood, but they know another beat down is coming and and pass. One guy asked for me for 17 points. :-D They just keep waiving those OSU flags. I suspect those OSU flags will be removed from most porches by 945 pm Jan 1st.

I have been using HGS 1.25mm / GW 1.22 mm for months. I have been string HG 1.25mm/ GW 1.22mm for other clients to soften HG before HGS was released. HG/GW gets nice reviews from my clients (mostly 4.5 and 4.0 men)

what's the pros of hgs/gw over hg/gw. I hate the notching so looking for a tough main and a soft cross. I've never used or ordered hgs
