What if Djoker accepted the villain role? What then?

What if he took on the villain role?

  • Be more loved

  • Be more hated

  • Become most polarizing athlete in sports

  • Fed already is the villain

Djoker has an emotional and competitive drive that play war with each other. Sometimes it goes in his favor, sometimes, like today it does not.

He is an emotional player that lets his emotions take over sometimes. I do think he would like to control it, but he can't. He isn't a good villain because that is not who he wants to be. Understandable. He is in a rock and a hard place.

But just for fun, imagine if he did accept the villain role. Would he be more liked, more hated, or more polarizing like NK?

It doesn't matter if he does anything stupid anymore now. The media has already labelled him as the guy who made mokery of mental health issues that Simone Biles and Naomi Osaka are going through

If he becomes the villain you're taking about in the OP it just makes the job of the journalists much easier. They don't need to create fake news in the events where Djokovic is doing his own thing.

I guess I mean earlier in his career.

That's a different kind of villain. The kind that is controversial about social issues and sensitive about how it's perceived. A better kind of villain is a cold blooded rear-end kicker who doesn't care what anyone thinks. I don't know if those exist anymore.

What does accepting the villain role even entail? Doing more unsavory, negative and evil things on court? This isn’t WWE, it’s just tennis. For him to be an active villain he’d have to behave even worse than he does today…

And you somehow think that would make him more loved? Explain that logic to me, I don’t get it.

Objective reality aka real life is not a Marvel story designed for cognitive ability of pre puberty minds.

Some play along = act out oversimplified roles defined by infantile content, some don't. Those who don't - they reduce income/profit for human parasites.

Now, how can parasites like those who reduce their income?

Villian is better than being a third wheel or a common toady.

Being Lucifer and challenging Michael's records is better than being MIchael's sidekick Gabriel or some other lower ranked angel in heaven. :-D

Then he would be accepting responsibility for himself. I don't know how that works for him.

He'd be more liked look at McEnroe, Kyrgios etc they don't give a ****

Djokovic flip flops a lot and his actions on the court don't look like what he says in words lol that's why it comes out as fakeness and people don't like it when they see the things he does on court as it contradicts himself but if he owned up to the role the crowds would probably like it

That week when Medvedev took on the villain role was great. Djokovic suits it nicely as a more consistent contender. I hope he plays up to it more in future. He's more charismatic in his "overcoming the crowd" moments than generally.

Whoever writes the official ATP scripts should have put a non-negotiable villain clause in Djokovic's contract, the equivelant of me playing Football Manager and locking in a 50% sell on when PSG swoop in for my latest exotic wonderkid.

Lucifer is a cooler character, as shown in the TV shows, Michael is just a guy who enjoys support of heaven and that of God, God sent them both to take on each other without interfering with any support to Michael then Lucifer would stomp Michael.

Lucy is an archangel in the lore just like Michael and Gabriel, Lucy defied God and so God powered Michael to cast Lucy down to hell, right? Otherwise they were all sons of God ..... Lucy and Michael both....... It isn't like Rusedski to Pete..... It is more like Djokovic to Federer

Yes some of my favourite moments were when he roared after the Berretini match, and told the Wimbledon crowd heckler to blow him.

Hasn't he already? I mean, didn't he comment about putting the Wimbledon crowd in its place this year? That wasn't likely to win him any fan support from people not already supporting him. I like to see him win, but just like Fed and Rafa, I don't like it when it's because the other guy just caves mentally. My goodness, the other players at the top of the rankings have made Kohli look like a mental giant this year, and that's really hard to do. ;)

Yeah, kicking your favorites' butts over and over can do that.

He would definitely have more respect. As it stands very few people anywhere respect him because he is so desperate for love/approval.

It would be awesome if he did that. I think the underlying fundamental reality though is he does not want to be a villian, and he can't accept the idea of being one.

Why should he accept this role? To be a villain one needs to be malicious and he doesn't seem to be.

Not really. McEnroe and Connors embraced being villians and I wouldn't call them malicious.

It's way too late for Djokovic to change his image or become an "authentic" (his word) entity. He knows the boob throw is detested by many even in his own fan base, but keeps doing it. He knows his racket throws and nasty on-court behavior makes him reviled, he keeps doing it anyway.

Lendl was a villain from his first days in 1979 and didn't embrace it, but it clearly didn't bug him. Djokovic's problem is an incessant and desperate need to be loved. That's never going to happen with Roger and Rafa getting 90% of all the tennis love with the other 10% spread across the rest of the field. Djokovic should have been a villain in 2006-07 when he burst on the scene, but instead tried to play the lovable clown, but that went over like a lead balloon. Anyway, it's way too late. The ship has sailed on Djokovic suddenly being true to type. He'll continue his desperate quest to be loved and he will fail outside of Serbia. Let his accomplishments speak for themselves instead of giving one damn what the crowd thinks.

He is in fact trying to achieve zen mode. Life is journey for finding inner peace for Nole. He doesn't give a damn about ttw members asking him to be a villain. In his mind he is hero already.

Yeah both him and Djokovic suffer the same fate because they are Eastern Europeans.
So sick of this lame "eastern European" nonsense which can be disproven in about .03 seconds. Why can't the Djokovic fan base get it through their heads that PLENTY of eastern European players were wildly popular:

Safin
Navratilova
Ivanisevic
Sharapova
Kournikova ("Oh geez, I can't get off over her because she's... gag!....eastern European!" -- said nobody ever)
Davydenko
Kafelnikov
Nastase
Seles

How about Cilic, Dimitrov, Coric, Rublev, Karatsev, Khachanov? They're all eastern European. Are they all universally detested because of where they were born? It's Djokovic who is pretty much hated, Out of the 100 decent eastern European players in the OE exactly two were unpopular: Lendl and Djokovic.

When after the 2008 U.S Open quarterfinals he whined about the New York crowd cheering for Roddick, the #1 American and only American post Sampras/Agassi to win a slam, something they would have done even had Roddick been playing Federer. In an on court interview right in front of the NYC crowd hearing it loud and clear. His reputation was pretty much set in stone already at that point. It would have taken a lot to come back from that. And it has only been downhill since then mostly.

Well I not gonna argue with you that Djokovic or Medvedev on court actions don’t help their case. You are correct on this.

If he accepted the villain role then he would be more hated in my view. My opinion of him changed because he does genuinely try to be liked and seems like a decent guy deep down but it is a bit overkill sometimes with the boob throw and the obvious media-friendly stunts. Then he ruins it at the worst possible times like the tournament mid pandemic and this latest Olympic meltdown.

I think like others have said tho he just needs to let his tennis do the talking. Alot of us(myself included) already think he's the GOAT and he really can build on that. Sure Zverev beat him to gold but he's still the man to beat at the US open and arguably all 4 slams next year too.
