Djoker has an emotional and competitive drive that play war with each other. Sometimes it goes in his favor, sometimes, like today it does not.

He is an emotional player that lets his emotions take over sometimes. I do think he would like to control it, but he can't. He isn't a good villain because that is not who he wants to be. Understandable. He is in a rock and a hard place.

But just for fun, imagine if he did accept the villain role. Would he be more liked, more hated, or more polarizing like NK?

When after the 2008 U.S Open quarterfinals he whined about the New York crowd cheering for Roddick, the #1 American and only American post Sampras/Agassi to win a slam, something they would have done even had Roddick been playing Federer. In an on court interview right in front of the NYC crowd hearing it loud and clear. His reputation was pretty much set in stone already at that point. It would have taken a lot to come back from that. And it has only been downhill since then mostly.

My opinion of him changed because he does genuinely try to be liked and seems like a decent guy deep down but it is a bit overkill sometimes with the boob throw and the obvious media-friendly stunts. Then he ruins it at the worst possible times like the tournament mid pandemic and this latest Olympic meltdown.

I think like others have said tho he just needs to let his tennis do the talking. Alot of us(myself included) already think he's the GOAT and he really can build on that. Sure Zverev beat him to gold but he's still the man to beat at the US open and arguably all 4 slams next year too.
