What was your first racquet??

I fell in love with the sport courtesy of a slender, flexible blue Pro Kennex, named, funnily enough, the Black Knight. It took my serve and put it, well, in to the net almost every time, but I still learned to love the game through this little beauty! Now, it is the dog's chew toy unfortunately, but it is still in one piece and would surely hold up to a hit sets I am sure!

My first own frame was a Wilson "Pro Staff 26". Obviously a juniors racquet. But the first racquet I ever played was a Prince Classic made out of steel. Kind of heavy for six year old. :shock:

Well, a Hyper Hammer anyway...not sure which one. It was metallic green/olive and black and incredibly head heavy...any ideas?

And then the first racquet I got to choose for myself was a Prince O3 Blue. Then O3 Red. Then Wilson K Surge. Then APDC+. Then APDGT.

I broke mine too through anger during a CIF match. tried to find one years later but was never able to find it in my grip size. I cant believe how head heavy it was compared to my current racket I play with (Pure storm tour gt). I miss the good ol head heavy frames

Tad Davis Imperial. Had to switch to a Slazenger challenger #1 as the Tad had a tendency to snap at the neck. After about 3 of them broke, I switched to the slazenger.The wooden racquet days!!I still have a Tad strung with Bow brand gut that I strung in 1971 and it is still playable!

Funny, we had some wood racquets around the house when I was a kid and then my older brother, who was on the High School team, got a Prince Classic. I remember thinking how light it was - aluminum compared to wood! I thought that was the coolest looking racquet ever back then!

We also had some woodies for general family use, but then I got my own. It was a 'Hart' - aluminum frame with a plastic bridge. Anyone remember this brand?

Then when I joined the HS team I got a T2000.

The Terminator 2000 looked cool on Connors, but no mortal beings could use it. The head size was like that of a ping pong paddle. I remember one kid sprayed on a smiley on it instead of a W stencil.

Dunlop Ceramax for me. I still have it, strung with some prince synthetic gut. It vibrates from a crack but I love it non the less.

Wilson Hammer 5.8 95, with a 4 5/8 grip (even now, two sizes above what I use). Still have it, just pulled it out to play with last week actually . To this day, still my favorite racquet by far - everything I know about the game came with that stick.

Sadly enough, I had one with a small crack in it that really just gave way last night - it's no small crack anymore. If I could actually find two in workable condition, I'd likely play with them over my current volkls.

I remember when using these old rackets, the balls came in a tin can. Not like the transparent plastic cans we have today. Also, there were ball compressors that supposedly kept the balls under pressure to reduce air leak. To me, those did not work, as the fuzz on the balls are just as important as the compression.

Yup. Used the tin cans to get water from the bubbler for drinks on the court. I recall the first time I cut my hand on one of the sharp edges too.

I remember the ball pumps too but never had one myself. Then there were the Tretorn tennis balls that were pressure-less.

First real stick was a Dunlop MW200 which I proceeded to break a few months later because it had a crack in it. I was only like 11 back then, don't get mad at me. I thought it was too heavy and lacked power. I'd like to try it again though to see if my opinion has changed!

Before that I used some cheapo aluminium sticks.

I am having trouble remember. I think it was a Slazenger wood racket from the mid 70s. But, the 70s are kind of a blur. Went on to 1st OS on market which was the Aluminum Prince with green throat piece. Also, had Wilson Kramer Pro Staff (best wood racket), and Davis Tad (cool looking cosmetics). My 1st graphite was the prince precision oversize which was graphite with a plastic throat piece.
