Will an American get past the 3rd round of the French this year?

Roddick or Blake could make a 4th round or even a quarterfinal with a very easy draw. If they get a tough draw they will be gone sooner. Beyond the obvious that neither have any chance whatsoever on clay vs any of Federer, Nadal, Djokovic, Nalbandian, Ferrer, Davydenko, there are alot of others they would have a hard time beating on clay. However they both have a chance vs some decent clay courters too. So it depends on the draw and how much effort they are willing to exert.

All depends on the draw. If Blake or Roddick draw Kohlschreiber or Seppi it could be a tough day at the office on clay.

I think Roddick and Blake will make it to atleast the 4th round. I think this will be a good year for American Tennis players at Roland Garros. I think either Venus or Serena will win the French and Roddick and Blake will both go deep.

I think Andy will get bast the 3rd round. but I mean I need to see the draw first to be honest. If he can get someone that doesn't move so well he can probably get by a couple of matches with that horrible backhand.

I'd say it's possible if some of them get a good dras,Roddick did reach Rome semi this year but that's the best of three format,we'll see how he does in a best of five.

Of course it will be tough for either one, but considering Blake just beat Seppi and Verdasco consecutively before losing in 3 sets to Wawrinka in Rome, chances are better than even that a 4th round appearance is conceiveable.

What ? If Nadal accepts USA citizenship. j/k

Well unlike previous few occasions, this year was productive for the USA guys. Roddick to semis in Rome, Blake to quarters losing to Wawrinka and Querrey to quarters in MC losing to Djokovic, that is a good potential for hope that one of them will get a favourable draw and reach the 2nd week, very possible scenario.

I do believe this year will be a good year for American Tennis at this years Roland Garros. I think Roddick and Blake are both going to make a big presence at RG, I would wager to say at least the 4th round. I think on the women's side, Serena or Venus will make it to the Finals, maybe one of them will win it all. So I predict a good showing by the American's both on the mens and womens side at RG.

Roddick has withdrawn with injury. Considering the draw, I can't see Sam Querrey making it.. (believe it or not, he's underdog in his 1st round), and actually only give James Blake a chance to make third maybe 4th round. He'll never get past quarters.

This draw kind of sucks if you are rooting for America.

Querrey is in the top 40, yet has to face Federer in round one.

Young and Ginepri face off in round one. That's another American gone down early.

Meanwhile that bum Safin gets a qualifier in round one....

Fish could make it to round 3 looking at his draw. Likely he'd face Ferrer though.

Blake "should" make it to round 4 as his draw looks tame. Then again this is Blake we're talking about.

Odesnik is in the 3rd round, Blake, Ginepri, & Reynolds are in the 2nd round

Blake has a good shot of reaching the 4th round, maybe the qf's.

Let's face it, ever since Trabert Americans don't do well at the French.

True. Well, except for Chang, Courier and Agassi, who accounted for 4 men's singles titles at RG between 89 and 99. That was a good eleven year span for our guys. Even when they did not win, they were in the thick of things with Pete getting to some semis, Courier and Agassi getting to some finals.

Now, our boys are not really getting to the second week at all. Maybe 'nepri? He seems to have the tools and the confidence. Not too sure about that right arm, though. I see him beating Serra and going down meekly to Stan the Man, who, on nickname alone I'd like to invite to play US Davis Cup on clay against Spain.

BTW, 6 French guys still in? Impressive. I'm not French, but I'm very 'ap-pee for them.

Hurray for Robby! Congrats to him on finally breaking the seven year clay curse.

Agassi made the QF in '02 & '03.

Can't believe the TC allowed their commentators to say(repaetedly) "Ginepri is the 1st American man to reach the 4th Round of RG since Michael Russell in 2001" on Saturday.

AA hasn't been gone that long to be slighted like that.
