Wilson Pro Staff 6.0 85

There are quite a few scumbags on the Bay selling the re-released version of the 6.0 at $300. Either taking advantage of TW not having any available or trying to pull a fast one on those who are none the wiser.

Yup. You're right. BLX buttcaps and everything.

Unfortunately, it's a factor of supply and demand....

Jason at TW said that he was going to playtest it and that Troy, Spencer, Granville, and Chris were gonna be in the video review.

I'm still looking forward to hearing a review.....or re-review in this case.

Oops. Thanks Spencer for clearing that up......

How about splicing in a piece from Drak?

I called TW last week and they confirmed that more are coming in "later this month." Couldn't tell me exactly when, how many or if they would begin taking pre-orders before the shipment arrived. Been checking their website daily to make sure I don't miss this round. Upset that I missed the first two.

Alternatives to Pro Staff 6.0 85

I have a simple question: I've been playing with the PS 85 for over 15 years. Now that they've become difficult to find, and so many people are talking about new racquets, I would like to know what people who used to play with the PS 85 have ended up switching to.

Every time I try to pick up a new racquet, I'll play with it for a few hours and think it's alright, and then pick up the PS 85 again and think that there still is nothing better. I've tried the Wilson Classic 6.1 95, Wilson Blade, Head Liquidmetal Radical Midplus, Volkl Quantum 10, Prince EXO3 Black, any number of Wilson Hypercarbons, and a few others here and there. Even if I buy another racquet hoping to make the switch, I'll still end up playing with the Pro Staff in the end. I have a closet full of racquets that I've bought but have stopped playing with because I end up picking up my Pro Staffs whenever I head out.

So I'm interested in knowing, especially from those who know the Pro Staff Original 6.0 85 very well and are playing around 4.0 level, is what are the other racquets currently available that you would recommend?

From what I've tried - BLX90, but you have to find one which is on spec. Wilson's QC is not really good, so some BLX90s are up to 0.3oz heavier (have one).

Also, try new TW feature:

Are the re-issues a TW exclusive or can I tell my pro shop to order a few for me if i miss out again on the TW shipment?

According to TW, the SMU production of PS85s isn't exclusive to TW.....but I haven't heard of anyone else selling them. I even live near a major retailer (on site and online) and they haven't carried the new reissues.

I bought two PS85's from TW back in 2007, anybody know if the newer shipments are basically the same or if they have any noticeable differences?

Check through the threads. There's been some discussion on this. Some people have detailed descriptions. From what I've read, other than the cosmetic BLX buttcap (trap doored to add lead) and the black-label specs on the throat as opposed to the silver label, the new ones are more flexible....RA 66 on the 2007s, 63 on the new ones.

Don't know too much about rackets, so what does more flexibility mean in terms of playability? Less power?

Yeah, but some people enjoy the increased flex as more control and more feel....less harshness.

It all depends on your tastes and what you want out of a racket.

a bit rounder grip, a bit softer, a bit sluggish but still very good..

Huzzah! I got my order in before it sold out, which I expect to happen sometime in the next 30 minutes...

I couldn't pass it up either. I don't see myself using this in matches, but it will sure be fun and nostalgic using this for some hitting sessions!

Just wondering if anyone can compare and contrast the swingweight on this BLX version with the swingweight on a POG Mid?? Is it as "accessible" as the POG, despite the PS85's extra weight?

POG Mid is my wife too. I have (2) PS85 mistresses on order. Will let you know how they compare.

I'd say this BLX PS 6.0 85 is even easier to swing than the POG Mid. I can easily generate tremendous racquet head speed with the BLX PS 6.0 85 due to the weight distribution. I can see how Federer developed his strokes the way he did using this racquet. :)

As scalpel-like as the BLX PS 6.0 85 is, the POG is far easier to swing IMO. In its weight-range, I've never hit with a whippier-12+ oz racquet. That being said, the 6.0 is no slouch, but still isn't at the POG level (it does do other things better tho).

I know specs don't always tell the whole story, but in this case, TW lists the swingweight of the POG Mid at 328 and the BLX PS 6.0 85 at only 321.

how is the power with this updated pro staff sampras 85? im surprised that no pros have made the switch yet because I have heard that control is great, but that it is lacking power?

It is very low powered by today's rocket launcher standards - which is why so many people here LOVE IT!!! :)
