As someone mentioned in the SD thread, this is pretty weak for a 1000. Top 8 get byes, play begins Sunday morning.

Pickleball legend Genie even got an invite.


Guangzhou main draw isn't out yet, they don't start until Monday. I'll update it later.

From a UK perspective, very surprised Boulter and Burrage aren't there. How many times has either of them received direct entry into a W1000? Combined, I wouldn't be shocked if the answer is 0. Baffling decision, unless they're carrying niggles and/or they're fatigued from touring. It must be something like that.

It is surprising that neither gets an invite yet the pickle ball legend does. I think Boulty’s same fingernail polish colors in 3 years is just a turn-off. Lol…

So that explains Burrage's absence from Mexico. Probably signed up for Ghangzou with no knowledge of the pullouts yet to occur.

That just leaves Boulter as a mystery. She likely would have got in even without pullouts. Is rank 50 high enough normally?

Has anyone been keeping an eye on her results this year? She is getting absolutely drubbed everywhere she goes. Not sure what it is going on with her, or why she is currently playing, but it isn't pretty at all...

Another complete mystery. I agree that she looks completely disinterested, but she has also played long/close three setters in each of her last two matches (both losses). If she really was dogging it, you wouldn't expect scorelines like those. Either way, watching her play is a chore.

This tournament seems to be a good one for the doubles ladies.

I did a double take when I saw that Demi Schuurs qualified for the tournament in the singles. Don't think i've ever seen her in a singles draw. Schuurs of course a doubles specialist, career high of #7 with 17 titles including four 1000 titles.
