This tournament is a real step backwards ... using line's people again ugh! blowing it! That being said, Let's Go, Kenin! And Pegula didn't even bother to defend her points ... what does that say?

Arango sends Townsend home.
Wow, didn't see that coming. I turned it on for a little bit, and Arango looks like a high school girl. How is she winning these matches? What is going on with the WTA? (And to be clear, I still love WTA tennis, unlike that other guy that was complaining, but I'm just shocked at how unexpected some results can be).

Agreed. Arango with that backwards cap looks like she’s 15. And God knows how she has been winning. She played the Queen of erratics in Keys, then a come-back mama in Townsend so may be she outlasted them. Also, she’s from Chile so she might be more accustomed to high altitude tennis. (She might have been living under sea level for last few years for all I know, like many others) but that seems like a sound reasoning so I’m sticking with it.

The lower-ranked girls know this is the time of year to pounce. It’s offseason for the big dogs already, even the WTA Finals don’t really mean much anymore.

I've been saying for a while that anyone (ATP or WTA) looking to give their ranking a good boost should take it easy (relatively) early in the year, and really focus their efforts on the post US Open part of the calendar. There are plenty of points available, yet many of the big players have either checked out for the season, or are running on fumes. It's a great time to make gains.

Really hoping Kenin wins this W1000. Be cool if she was back in the mix.
Yep, I'd love to see Kenin win as well, especially if she beats Azarenka in the process!

She's from Colombia, but IDK if they have altitude there. I think so? Anyway how funny would it be if she wins.
LOL umm, yeah, they kinda "have altitude there"... In fact, they have the largest high altitude city in the world (Bogotà, at nearly 2700 meters above sea level).

Anyways, Arango was born and raised in Medellin which is at about 1500 meters. In other words, exactly the same as Guadalajara...

Three matches should be good tight games, with possibly Sakkari-Arango being the only straightforward one, not least because Arango might start suffering from I've-never-got-this-far-and-I'm-starting-to-tire syndrome now (not a real thing so don't look it up).

Hadn't seen Dolehide in quite a while... am I misremembering her or did she lose a ton of weight?
Not sure if it is weight, but I didn't recognize her at all...
Looks like she lost a ton of weight. 20 or 30 lbs? Looks like a totally different person.
As I said above, she looked like a completely different player. I almost thought they put the wrong name on the score when I first turned it on.

She is relentless. Saw her beat Jabeur. Short, but she's everywhere, runs for every ball. Moonballer defense. Jabeur made a lot of errors trying to attack the moonballs on the rise.
And speaking of completely different players, Trevisan is another strange case. For large parts of the year she looks totally weak, ineffective and disinterested. And now she is playing hard, fighting, and doing well.

Her grunt is still, however, completely unbearable. And sometimes I also get the feeling she thinks she is the best Italian woman on the tour, which is also unbearable, as we know Camila is the one and only queen of Italian tennis.

Guangzhou 250 has a better top half SF by ranking than the Guadalajara 1000 SF....

Guangzhou:
#27 Linette v #81 Putintseva

Guadalajara:
#53 Kenin v #111 Dolehide

That is... insane.

Before this tournament Dolehide lost three straight to Lepchenko, Chirico, and Burel. Earlier in the summer she lost to M. Jones ranked 250.

On the weight issue, I thought she looked cuter with the old look but this version is clearly better for tennis. Not sure if she can repeat this outside of altitude; only time will tell.
