Is this normal for me to break the string in 1.5 hours in a pro staff 85 and also in a 18x20 pattern rackets? I was thinking maybe it was just a bad batch of string but 16 dollars for 1.5 hours is a bit expensive. Anyone have any experience with this string?

No Problems

I use the 17g @ 58lbs on a Babolat Pure Drive 110 frame. Just switched to this string and I love it. Have had no problems with the string.

You are hitting too hard then.

...Seriously, your question is ridiculous. This string has been on the market for several years. Obviously it works for a lot of people. If it does not work for you, do not use it, use something else. Everybody's shots and string durations are different, there is no "normal". Multifilaments are not built for string breakers in general.

Use the 16G. that one last alot longer. and control is much better too vs 17 or 18g ones.

That really sums it up to be sure...

I agree with Fedace. The 16 is much better. Lasts longer and does not turn into a control nightmare in 4 hours.

LOL,,,that was a good one. Control nightmare in 4 hours. I use the 17 and sometimes even 18 g and i hybrid with RPM blast poly. It seem to work really well for around 4 hours but i have to cut it out or i end up breaking it by that time so it kind of works out for me, i guess.:)

BTW the most popular string when I started tennis was prince syn gut. None of these fancy string was around and I don't break syn gut this fast 25 years ago. I don't feel my question is that ridiculous and curious of people's experience. I am using 16g and probably move away from this string to NRG 2 since it is .02mm thicker.

NRG is softer with a tad more pop, IMO a better string all together. Sorry to say you really will not get much more time though. From my experience with both as crosses in 16g, X1 got around 3.5 hours and NRG got maybe 4 hours, this is with string savers in a YT Prestige mp.

I used to get about 2 good hours out of a full bed of biphase, then 10 bad hours, then a few more good ones before it broke. I don't buy it anymore.

X-1 Biphase

I have been using a full bed of X-1 16g in my Head MGPP and have now switched to the MG Radical and continue to use the X-1 16g...I like it and seem to get 10+ hrs as well. I am a 3.5 -4 player. I started using the X-1 after severe TE probs. I am now going to try the new Technifibre string that is the upmodel to the multifeel

I have used the 17G in my Leaded 400Gs and got about 6 hours before rocket time. The best results came for me using the 16G in a 5G... tension loss seemed better and the extra power was welcomed with the 5G. The 5G has a sort of med tight pattern.

I don't know anyone who breaks X1 biphase in 1.5 hours in the crosses, that's crazy. I would use biphase as a hybrid with poly in the mains and 16g biphase in the crosses, that should increase durability and control.

i'm not a string breaker but x1 biphase 17g lasted only about 4-5 hours as a cross with poly mains. so i'd assume a hard hitter could easily break them in 1.5-2 hours. as for the impression - first 30 min it's nothing special, then it becomes great - good feel, crisp, spin but once it starts losing its tension (after about 1-2 hours) it becomes hard to control - the balls would just fly on me

put the x-1 on the mains and a soft(!) poly on the crosses. the tension of the poly should be extra, extra low and the x-1 about 3-4 lbs higher.

this should extend the life of the x-1 and retain control.

I used to use only multi strings due to my TE.
I'm a heavy top-spin player and most multi strings can't go over 10 hrs of play.
X-1 16g is the most durable string among multis I have tried.
Go for hybrid or soft polys if you are a string breaker.
They are much stronger than multis.

Well I am not a string breaker but I do play on clay. I practice with my partner around three hours just hitting. The string pattern is 16x19 in the ps 85 and you have to hit the sweet spot for some power. I always breaks the same cross string but now I just use syn gut and it last me a bit longer than X1 and less power.

I might just be confirming what many already know, and I understand this string must work for some but here's my experience.

5.5 player. I used to play strong synthetics or hybrid (kevlar mains syn cross) and thought I'd give this a try on a couple of new sticks. 17 gauge at 62 pounds.

I broke the first string (new racquets fresh grommets) in 30-40 serves (50 max) and the second in about 20 mins of ball machine hitting at 70-80mph. Literally the strings went on the first ball I framed, both times.

Got quite a bit of biphase left - not sure whether to sell it or try it some more. I guess the solution is stop experimenting at training lol.

I use biphase in the crosses and it depends on the racquet's string pattern. On my youtek prestige MP, the biphase will last quite a bit longer than on the blx 90's due to the open pattern.

That's very close to my experience.

The first time I put X1 Biphase in my racquet, I had to restrain myself from buying a reel right away. I played a match and was completely impressed with the feel. The second match I played, it seemed to play considerably different -- the liveliness was all but gone and the fraying was occurring big time. I kept the frame in my bag -- I didn't want to cut out a relatively expensive string after 2 matches. From then on the play was very inconsistent until the very end. I broke string in my other racquet and reached for the back-up frame with the X1. I hadn't played with it in a week or so. It played better than previously for about 4-5 games, then promptly snapped on hard forehand.

I then used X1 as crosses in a hybrid poly setup. The fraying again showed up nearly immediately. Within 2-3 matches the strings were badly frayed and clearly on the edge of snapping -- plus I didn't like the feel / played so differently than when freshly strung.

I went on a long sojourn, so to speak, and tried several Solinco and Luxilon brands and really didn't like them. Prince SynGut played better and was what I was using. Tried a few Gamma strings, which were better IMO, but still didn't feel great. Called into TW and asked for suggestions. They suggested TF Red Code. I errantly bought Black Code instead -- and truly love it! Been playing with it for about 6 weeks, 4-5X weekly, and have no complaints, string breaks, arm pain, or have experience any of the bad Black Code feedback read about...

Friends at the club, upon noticing me playing with BC, suggested I try Luxilon Ace due to it being softer and all-around better than BC. "BC sucks" seemed be a fairly consistent refrain. So I bought a few sets of Luxilon Ace last Friday and put a set in... It felt ok, but not as much bite and feel as BC -- plus my arm hurt for the 1st time in a long while despite it supposedly being a "soft" poly. I restrung a good bit lower thinking I had it too tight and really disliked it -- I started spraying everything long and it felt like spaghetti in the racquet... Cut it out and went back to Black Code... Couldn't be happier. I am thinking about a reel of BC now... Totally happy with it.

For me, the first two hours with X1 were pure magic. The next 2 hours were pretty good. After that, it was like a rocket launcher. I hit so many balls long. I'd read about this happening to a lot of people but I was still surprised that such an expensive string would perform so inconsistently over its life.

Also disappointed with poor durability (compared to other multifilaments I have used). Strangely starts fraying quickly on crosses. Will have to go back to gamma TNT2 17L for now.

X-1 Bi-Phase might be the most Over-rated String on Market!!!

X1 Bi-Phase has a very low Price/Performace ratio IMO. Lots of better options out there for much less money. To be honest, PSGO White 17G is a better buy for my game. Gosen OG Sheep 17G is also much more consistent without the 2-4 hour wow factor. You can get an entire reel of the OG Sheep 17G in natural for two sets of X-1 Bi-Phase. The X-1 might be the most over-rated string on the market. Try TF Mutifeel, it is much more consistant, 1/2 the price. If you are looking a string that plays like Nat Gut...Just get the Nat Gut. If you are not a major string breaker, Nat Gut is very cost effective indeed.

I play with the 17G at 51LBS, it lasted about 2 days for me, My friend hit with the 18G in his 18 x 20 (Don't know the tension) and it broke in 1 hour.

Are you hitting tennis balls or rocks?

Just kidding, I would switch to a hybrid or full poly setup.

FWIW - I really like biphase as a cross with MSV Hex but the problem for me is string movement, biphase seems to move all over the place as compared to virtually ANY other string and the high cost also doesn't suit my wants....

My customers all tend to like NRG2 and NXT over BiPhase any day.

There has to be better strings to use as a cross. X-1, I am sure makes a great cross.. but not for the cost. Since I broke my Wilson Test String B in 4 hours, I was able to use the remains for a cross. I am told it is Wilson Sensation Control. If so and the string is priced like Sensation, I have a new cross. It was great as a cross.

In my search for a great multi cross, I have to say that I liked some of the cheaper ones more than my favorite multi in a full job which is Babolat Xcel. Even gut is only slightly better than a multi. Bottom line, put your money in the mains if you go for a hybrid.

Hi again,

I am in the middle of getting my review together for the Wilson Test String B but wanted to add that the Test String used as a cross was the best I have every used. Most times I stick to syn gut (Forten Sweet, Ashaway Liberty, PSGO.. etc) and have been happy with the results. This stuff seemed to open up the sweetspot 20%, help pocket the ball and create extra power. I never thought any multi (I have tested others) would make that much difference. If this string is priced under $10.00, I would have no problems using this string as a cross. It also really made the frame and stringbed really comfortable. While I did not love the string in the in a full bed (Test Results coming...) I was glad I spent the 30 minutes to save the remains and restring as a cross. I felt I was sort of shortchanging myself and TW when the string broke so fast. Note: I used Tourna BH Silver 17G @ 58 Lbs (Mains) and the Test String B @ 55 Lbs.

I've tried PSGD and Gamma synthetic gut as crosses. Definitely prefer the multifilament crosses over the solid cores.

Just installed a full bed of biphase 17 after using Multifeel 17 for a bit. There is a huge difference between these strings. The biphase feels so great right out of the box. The ball feel, power, and arm comfort is superior. it strings up so much different than MCS for example. No apparent strechiness on the dropweight machine, almost acts like a syngut. This has to be the most "gutlike" string on the market. See how long it takes till the dreaded tension loss, but I am sure enjoying it now. I hit pretty flat and use an 18x20 pattern, so hopefully it hangs in there for a while.

I haven't really used X-1 for extended time so i don't know too much about it. but if you were choosing between X-1 and NGR2, which string would you choose ?

I think the opinion's pretty much split on that.

Yea, i only used X-1 biphase like couple of times for couple hours in the past. I know little about it. NRG2 little more than that. I remember NRG2 being fairly soft but i am looking for power and control. What would you recommend ?
