smalahove - nice! My mind was temporarily clogged on 'Fedex' though
It is very late here..
Played RF97A for years, entire last year with DG97 330g, now I tried and bought VP97 310g and it really is great: stable AND fast. They might have tweaked and tuned it a tiny bit more, something I feel was done with RF97A, to iron out those tiniest of things. But still, it is a great and complete racquet, no doubt, both in stock form or modified. Finally a less heavy racquet for advanced players but with no compromises on stability or anything else really. It is precise, "point 'n' shoot" as they say, a very nice thing to have if you like to attack the ball a lot with a full swing. I feel at ease with it because of it - I can give 80% or 110% of my swing into any ball and the racquet's response is great in both cases. A Yonex minus for me would be the grip, L3 is a bit too chunky, L2 too small, and base grip type is less than perfect for my taste. Will replace soon.. Other than that a 315g version would be even better..
Today I strung both RF97A and VP97 310g with ALU Power 24/22.5kg and went to play a match to compare them. And they are actually totally comparable, which was a surprise for me. They are more similar than DG97 330g was to RF97A, and that is great news to me, I truly like RF97A.. Feel, launch angle and string pattern, slice, serve, all very similar between RF97A and VP97 310g. Not the same but comparable. Naturally, VP97 310g has the advantage of speed and RF97A of mass, so when you hit the perfect ball with RF97A it is epic, but in a competition that doesn't happen very often, it is much more common when just hitting. In competition those 310g help A LOT - compared to RF97A, or even to DG97 330g.
I most definitely will try VP97 330g and I have big expectations now
Strings for both RF97A and VP97 310g for me would not be of the stiffest kind, due to the stiffness fo the hoop, I think that they need some forgiveness there. RF97A with gut mains and ALU Power crosses is mindblowing, but it lasts 2 hours max for me, so it would cost a fortune, that I don't have. Yet
Will try RS Lyon 1.25 on mains as a medium stiff string with some stiffer poly on crosses tomorrow with VP97 310g. DG97 330g on the other hand takes even very stiff strings easily, it is a bit more forgiving a frame than other two mentioned.
Yeah, well done Yonex ;-)
