I feel I still need to work on mine as well. But I feel it brings me back to how kids play when they haven't had any coaching. All we did was drop shots and volleys :D

Sad though that it's most effective now the less you use it, unless your volley game is also up to scratch, specifically reaction volleys. The RF97 is inhibiting this to some degree still.
And most players including myself don't practice drop shots. We go out and bang the ball around, do a few volleys, practice a few serves, then start the match. No drop shot practice, at least for most of us

Quick detour - how do you find the 95D compared to newer yonexs or angells? Its is a very interesting frame and second on my list after the prince 93p

Yeah, I really like it... I modified mine as I felt it would benefit from a higher SW. Wawrinka style with tungsten tape from about 12-4-ish and 8-ish - 12 o'clock. Then I added some lead to the 7" position and just above the butt cap, replaced the normal grip with a leather one and two overgrips (as it was a 4 3/8 instead of 4 1/2). The result was a static weight of 394g and a racquet that was much more HL than the original. It was easy to swing and very powerful (insanely so). I had absolutely no problem with control and groundstrokes or volleys under normal conditions.

Two problems arose, 1) if someone took the time away by being at the net and hitting a deep volley back to me forcing me to hit two groundstrokes or volleys in succession (and especially if they were opposing sides - forehand then backhand); and 2) Serving after an hour or more, where my shoulder would start to fatigue and I would lose the ability to control the motion of my joints and my arm would feel like the inertia of the racquet was trying to rip my arm and shoulder out of its socket.

With the first problem, I could feel the weight of the racquet as I was trying to quickly transition from forehand to backhand and I could not react quick enough. The second problem caused a shoulder injury.

As a result, I have removed the Lead from the grip and some Tungsten tape from the head reducing the static weight by about 20g and making the racquet a similar weight to all my other racquets.

As I have been working hard to rehab the shoulder (and I have many racquets), I have left the 95D aside until I feel my shoulder is fully recovered, at which point I will return to check that the setup is right and no further reductions and mods need to be made. The 95D, however, is a brilliant racquet which will be staying in my stable as I played very well with it. It is not to blame for my excessive modification (my very first ever, by the way).

We will now return to our normal program... please excuse the deviation...

I played now a couple more times with my (matched) 330s. Both with Gamma Hi-Tech, one with KB MP Rough 1.20 the other with Oehms BP Rough 1.20. Ready to play one 353.8 g, the other 354.2 g, quite good I would say! SW was 328/329 if I measured correctly, but definitely not larger than 330. I played well but felt that there some weight/stability missing somewhere in the hoop. the second time I tried/experimented with 1 g at 12, which I didn't like, Moving that (small) weight to 11/1 (? between 2/3 top cross from the top) somehow did the trick, with that set up and the MP Rough in particular I played very well this morning for my standards. Volleys and slices in particular were already better for me compared to the DR98 (probably because of the increased weight?). With the (admittedly) little weight added I feel that my forehand now is better as well. The slice is probably my most improved shot compared to the DR98, not sure why but I was always struggling with slices with that racquet.

I can highly recommend MP Rough in the racquet, somehow it feels a bit more crisp compared to inside a DR98. I had it at 51/48, which I thought was spot on for me. Maybe in the long term I will be able to go lower but for the time being I will stick to that.

Played again last night with the 310. 3 set match with a real big hitting opponent. 1st time playing against a big hitter with my new yonex. My opponent was hitting hard flat groundies, a big heavy serve. I won the match, but did feel that the frame could have used a little help. Thinking maybe 5g at 12oclock might help with a little more stability when blocking back these laser beam shots. Or maybe I just need to adjust my swing a little. Tough to tell.

Video reviews are tougher to make than it seems! My attempt at one below. Ended up not using more than half the footage I shot for various reasons but I think it is useful nonetheless. Clip opens with my friend who was testing the 330g in the near court. I'm in the black shirt and using the 310.
Enjoy

You should visit the Tips section, you got good technique. I like your BH, very much like Stans. Doing it properly man!

Just finished a two hour training session with my brand new VCore Pro 97's. One word: epic!

They were delivered by Fedex a little earlier today; unf. I got the wrong bag (a 6 pcs one instead of 9), but still ...
I went for the 310g version as I've owned both the 310 and 330g versions of the Duel G97, and thought the 310 suited me better with a little customization, whereas the 330 didn't leave any room for that (for me).

I went for Volk V-star @44 lbs to protect my elbow (TE). One racket with 1.2, the other with 1.3.
I played them stock. I enjoyed both gauges, but after a while it was clear the 1.2 needed a bit of lead, as suspected.
If you're familiar with the DG97s, and tried the 16x19 stringing option and liked that, and wanted something a little bit firmer, this is it.
As an old Prince fan, I really wanted to like the Phantom 100 and the Phantom Pro 100P, but they didn't do anything for me. This one is a love affair, which I know will last, as I loved the DG97s (sold them due to grip size).

Well done, Yonex!

We have shared similar thoughts on rackets in the past (particularly the DG 310), so I'm looking forward to getting my Vcore Pro 97 310 on the court. Unfortunately I'm still waiting on my reel of string to arrive, but should be here within the next few days.

Although I was initially underwhelmed with my Prince Phantom Pro 100, I've actually really found my groove with it and am playing really well. It will remain my go to stick unless the Vcore Pro can unseat it as king of the court. What in particular did you like about the Yonex that the Prince frames couldn't offer?

smalahove - nice! My mind was temporarily clogged on 'Fedex' though :) It is very late here..

Played RF97A for years, entire last year with DG97 330g, now I tried and bought VP97 310g and it really is great: stable AND fast. They might have tweaked and tuned it a tiny bit more, something I feel was done with RF97A, to iron out those tiniest of things. But still, it is a great and complete racquet, no doubt, both in stock form or modified. Finally a less heavy racquet for advanced players but with no compromises on stability or anything else really. It is precise, "point 'n' shoot" as they say, a very nice thing to have if you like to attack the ball a lot with a full swing. I feel at ease with it because of it - I can give 80% or 110% of my swing into any ball and the racquet's response is great in both cases. A Yonex minus for me would be the grip, L3 is a bit too chunky, L2 too small, and base grip type is less than perfect for my taste. Will replace soon.. Other than that a 315g version would be even better..

Today I strung both RF97A and VP97 310g with ALU Power 24/22.5kg and went to play a match to compare them. And they are actually totally comparable, which was a surprise for me. They are more similar than DG97 330g was to RF97A, and that is great news to me, I truly like RF97A.. Feel, launch angle and string pattern, slice, serve, all very similar between RF97A and VP97 310g. Not the same but comparable. Naturally, VP97 310g has the advantage of speed and RF97A of mass, so when you hit the perfect ball with RF97A it is epic, but in a competition that doesn't happen very often, it is much more common when just hitting. In competition those 310g help A LOT - compared to RF97A, or even to DG97 330g.

I most definitely will try VP97 330g and I have big expectations now :)

Strings for both RF97A and VP97 310g for me would not be of the stiffest kind, due to the stiffness fo the hoop, I think that they need some forgiveness there. RF97A with gut mains and ALU Power crosses is mindblowing, but it lasts 2 hours max for me, so it would cost a fortune, that I don't have. Yet :) Will try RS Lyon 1.25 on mains as a medium stiff string with some stiffer poly on crosses tomorrow with VP97 310g. DG97 330g on the other hand takes even very stiff strings easily, it is a bit more forgiving a frame than other two mentioned.

Yeah, well done Yonex ;-)

Another 3 sets against a big hitter with the 310, and feeling even better about this frame. My previous thoughts that it could use some lead in the hoop I think were unwarranted(for me at least). I think I'm still adjusting to it and it's going to be good in stock form. I feel really accurate with this stick. Took a few crosscouet screamers from my opponent and just guided them down the line for winners. Placing my serve really well too. Overall I think this is a great players frame at a lighter weight. It's exactly what I was looking for.
Plus it's damn good lookin!

There's something about the taper and thin throat of the Phantoms I didn't enjoy. I also think 16x18 is not the ideal string pattern for that type of 100 sq inch frame. The Vcore Pro 97s are perfectly balanced for me, and the feel is akin the solidness of an IG Prestige. Opening up the string pattern makes it a better frame than the DG97 imo, as you get a softer string bead, more spin and a bit more pop. The racket compliments my swing effortlessly and naturally. I bought a couple of the new PS, as I wanted a bit more pop compated to the DG97s, but got TE instead. I sold the DG97s to prevent further TE damage due to the grip size (I've gone up a size). This time around I won't make that mistake again. It's not the most powerful frame, but out of all player's type frames, it's the one that let's me rip the biggest FHs whilst giving me access to more spin and forgiveness - and keeping my elbow healthy.

You pretty much just described why I like the Phantom Pro 100, except for me I'd replace "elbow" with "wrist". The Phantom just isn't a great serving racket. Similarly I loved the DG310 because it let me go for my forehands, AND it was a decent serving racket. But I found it less forgiving and spin friendly than the Phantom.

I played a few times by now and am pretty much dialled in with the VCore 330 now. I tested various setups and settled on 1g each at almost 11/1. My matched racquets came a bit under spec (327 g) and light in the hoop (SW 327/328), but now it has the Yonex magic wand feel for my kind of style. So far I have been playing with MP rough 1.20 at 51/48 which felt great but will now experiment with lower tensions, thicker mains and smoother crosses. So far I broke all the string I used in between 2-4 hours, so something needs to be changed otherwise it's not going to be economical! I have sets of MP rough 1.25 and MP 1.20, will try to hybrid those with MP in the crosses. I also have a set of PTP Strike and Black Code 4S for testing.

Glad I got the 330, it's fairly low powered but has tons of control and feel, absolutely solid and importantly easy on your arm even if you bludgeon the ball for hours. I played again with a DR98 because of broken strings and coming from the 330 it feels surprisingly hollow and muted now.

The paint already has some chips though; can't complain too much given that I'm playing on clay but still a bit annoying.

Hey guys! I had some demos the last week and really liked both the vcore pro 97 and the vcore sv 95 out of the rackets I tested. They both have their advatages and disadvantages over each other. However, I was unfamiliar with the string in the demos.

Now I have another opportunity to test these 2 rackets again but this time with my own strings. Which of these options is the best for a "fair" comparison in your opinion?

- Poly Tour Pro 1.25

Did anyone experiment with the VCORE Pro 97 (310) already ?

I thought that a leathergrip and SOME lead at 3&9 would give this beauty a boost. Anyone tried something similar out ?

Just got my Vcore Pro 97 310g today. Loved the demo I had, can't wait to try out different strings and setups in this frame.

It's a great looking frame, especially with white strings or black strings.

Some posters also complained about the base grip and that the "valleys" were too deep...

I think the base grip is perfect as it allows you to wrap an overgrip with the overlap falling perfectly into the valleys resulting in an almost perfectly smooth surface. Bevel feel is pretty decent too for a synthetic base grip. Big improvement over the base grips I got on my Duel G's which were the non-perforated type.

I am going to start off with some Prince Duraflex 17g at 58/56lbs and experiment from there...

I've got about 20hrs now with the 310. I love it in stock form. All I have is an overwrap. I guess you could add some lead if you want to raise sw a bit. Personally I prefer a lower swing weight. First few hours with it I was thinking it could use a little weight on the hoop to help with plow, but since then it's been fine for me. Just needed to get used to it, adjustment period.

Just my opinion.

I initially had a leather grip on, overgrip (I only grip half as I have a OHB) and weight at buttcap and 12 o'clock on my 310g. It was very manoeuvrable and spin and dropshots were amazing but on off centre hits it was a little unstable so I felt this racquet needed weight at 3&9. Lead both at 3&9 and 12 felt really sluggish for me even if I cut down the length of the lead. With just lead at 3&9 it felt more stable but slightly sluggish and it felt as though it flexed less and my dropshots weren't as accurate. BUT I recently discovered a strange thing, I use the whole overgrip on one of my 310g instead of half grip and now suddenly it transformed the racquet. Very whippey, manoeuvrable and stable. It was really weird how that made a big difference. Now my 3&9 lead has extended to 10&2 like Jean F and I played very well with it yesterday.

The reason it probably made a difference is that by putting a whole overgrip you also added weight at the 7" position (from the butt cap).

yeah I know, just didn't expect it to make such a big difference!

Yeah, I know. It's amazing. The same thing happened with another of my racquets. I played well with it but was finding that I was missing my serves and smashes. Then I added a bit of weight at the 7" position, and now it's a serving and smashing weapon (as well as good in all other areas).

@Syfo-Dias is up to something: 46/44 works great in the 330 with a low-powered string. I tried a KB MP Rough/MP Hybrid, and that tension was just right. Overall the string setup was too dead and muted for my taste but tons of control. For people who like this kind of feel, definitely recommended with that tension, especially with flatter strokes. Will try Black Code 4S at the same tension next as well as my favorite cheap co-poly :D.

Hey @Morequestionsthananswers,
I had Troy help me weight up a 310, and we put 3 grams of TW tungsten tape at 3 and 9 o'clock (4 3inch strips total, 2 on each side).
After that, we counterbalanced the weight with the same weight of tungsten putty and cotton.
Overall, with a dampener, the weight came in at about 12.1 ounces with a 325 swingweight and 9 points HL.
That setup feels really solid and gives the frame a bit more plowthrough and stability against bigger hitters, while still maintaining the maneuverability I love in the 310.
Hope that helps! :)

Sean,

Did you add a leather grip and or overgrip? Is the 12.1 with strings? Was it setup unstrung stock?

Hello Haedulus, can you expand on your experience with both the pro97 and the sv95 and compare both?

I am currently testing the sv95. I think its great, specially on serves and volleys but I'm not yet convinced comfort wise even though I play with gut mains and poly crosses hybrid as I get a sore wrist sometimes if I hit slightly late plus high humidity. It was much better than the pro staff 97 anyway.
Thanks in advance.

Played with Black Code 4S 17 now at 46/44 and I have to say this is my favourite string so far in the VCore Pro 97 330. Great control and feel (for a shaped poly), just the right power level. The spin is by far the most I have ever gotten out of this racquet. The guy I played with thought there's something wrong with the clay court or the balls because they would bounce too high o_O. There should even be room to lower the tension further. No issues with comfort at all. This string actually reminds me of a better version of Ultra Cable (which I always liked), it has similar spin, similar "squarish" feel but much less muted, less heavy and thick, much better tension maintenance. Overall I'm surprised that this string is not more popular around here. Definitely worth testing for people who like shaped strings and do not hit too flat, or for people who like Ultra Cable in particular.

The only problem for me right now, as with all the other strings I have tried, is that it is already heavily notched in the mains after 3.5h of play, not going to survive much longer. I'm not sure if it's the racquet, the lower tensions, or if I changed my strokes somehow, but in the 330 I'm not getting more than 2-4h out of any string before breaking. Not keen on moving to 1.30 gauges.

In my opinion the 330 is lower powered than the DR98 but as a disclaimer I have to say that I haven't played with the DR98 in stock for a long time (I have 3g lead at 12). Overall the 330 is a fairly low-powered racquet and won't give you anything for free, I would rank the Yonex racquets (I played with) VCore Pro 97 < DR98 < SV98 < DR98+ < SV98+ in terms of free power. I'm a big guy so this suits me very well.

Maneuverability probably depends on your style (short/long strokes, flat vs. a lot of topspin), but overall with the 20 g extra it's not as agile as the DR98 but definitely very maneuverable for its weight, much more so than the RF97 for example. It's swings lighter than the weight would suggest but it feels much more solid in the throat than the DR98. I added 1 g lead tape on each side in the hoop region (starting from 4th cross from the top). My matched 330's were slightly under spec ~327 g / SW 328 and the hoop didn't feel as stable as it should IMO and the extra lead fixed that. I suspect that is were my racquets were missing weight. I would definitely watch out for that if you are demoing the 330.

What I like in comparison is that I can string the 330 at least 5 lbs less than the DR98 without losing any control. I'm currently using 46/44 as default but already tried 42/40, and even at that tension there aren't any annoying vibrations (I had that with the DR98).

This is what's left of Black Code 4S 17 after not even 4h of play in the 330. I hit a hell of a forehand and it sounded as if the racquet broke in half! Great string though I have to say; extremely fun for slugging it from from behind the baseline on clay. Durability could be better obviously, I would want to get at least 8h from a string. Not sure if it's not the racquet that's the culprit here for eating up the strings.

I have to say that I like this racquet more and more. Can be used as ball-crushing spin monster from the baseline but also great on volleys and slices. As the TTW philosophers like to say: the balls are not only fast but also heavy! :D

This is what's left of Black Code 4S 17 after not even 4h of play in the 330. I hit a hell of a forehand and it sounded as if the racquet broke in half! how many grams of lead did you put in the 330? I'm thinking of adding a little bit of lead on my 330s as well.

It's 1 g on each side, so 2 g in total, was all that I needed. I tried different combinations of weight and location and this particular one was exactly what I needed. Interestingly @JeanF didn't go any higher with the lead in his 310. Anything higher than where I put mine made the racquet (for me) sluggish without changing the feel of the hoop (lack of power/stability). So I would recommend something similar; not going past the top cross with lead tape.

I have been thi king about putting a leather grip and some lead tape up the hoop, just dont want to over do it. I do feel now that the hoop might be a little too flexy at time.

I'll give your set up a try. I have tw leather grip on both of my 330s. will try 3 grams at 12 on one racquet and your set up on the other and see how it feels.

Have the leather grips amde the racquet feel heavy over your head. I do miss having my usual leather grip but I have been serving so well im worried about disrupting stock 330

Just hit with the 330... wow. There’s definitely a different feel in how heavy the ball comes off with this frame compared to my Ezone 98 that has lead at 3 and 9 with a leather grip. It has that Tour G feeling that I fell in love with. That racquet was the reason I came to Yonex. I might be selling my Ezone 98+ for this one VERY soon.

I was able to really rip a OHBH and I also had a lot more depth on my FH side. Racquet feels very stable and super solid. Definitely doesn’t have that toy feeling racquets do. I was pretty impressed with it during the twenty minutes I was able to demo it. I was also able to put it head to head with the RF97... no contest there. The VCORE Pro 97 is way better imo. I generate my own power and I’m looking for feel - this racquet has that.

not really. I played the 330 in stock ( synthetic grip) and i didnt like the feel. I always liked playing with a leather grip so I went ahead and replaced it. I'm coming from the RF97. that racquet was hurting my elbow so I had to switch to the pro 97.

I can highly recommend the Gamma Hi-Tech replacement grip, it's what I use. It's probably the synthetic grip that's the closest to leather. Firm, but not as heavy as leather. A bit like a heavier Babolat skin feel. On my racquets, it only added 4-5 g.

My matched racquets came slightly lighter than stock (327 g) but I assume most of the first batches were like that. Sounds like a good comparison.

The RF97 is obviously a great racquet but the problem for me is that it is too stiff, so stiff and powerful in fact that I could not see myself playing with a full bed of poly in it. Also the handle is rather short for a 2HBH. In the VCore Pro you can use poly with no problem at low tensions, which suits me very well, although not everyone's cup of tea. 46/44 worked great (my go to tension in the 330 from now on) and I'm testing 44/42 tomorrow.
