Simon plays the PT57A

yep ... interesting for several reasons. 1. he baseline grinds with it (thought these werent for The Modern Game?;)) 2. he hits flat, 3. he mishit repeatedly. it definitely wasnt a characteristic match for djoker (over 100 unforced errors), but still interesting to watch.

Swingweight 330-335, static weight 350-370g and balance 7-12pts headlight are my preferred specs. I'm a baseliner who slices most all the backhands and tries to ballbash hard on forehand. Level self rated low 3.5, fitness better than most of my opponents.

Simon plays the PT57A - one of those Prestige vs Radical matches.
yeah there are lots of different prestige and radical players... Soderling who used to be the face of prestige just killed that ball. Wawrinka also used to be a prestige player... also kills the ball. Murray can kill the ball or play wall like defense. The point is consistent control and comfort with the prestige line.

High sw and good flex definitely lets one play defense differently.. both Simon and Djoker are excellent returners.

In my experience good flex really lets me hit through the ball, I very rarely overhit with my Prince Tour 95, at a swingweight of around 350. Very user friendly on groundstrokes. Not so great around the net.

I have sometimes played with heavier, however I find my current setup to be just perfect on a TC95. Weight is 355-57 grams and SW 330.

Simon is generally a nightmare to play and honestly probably the best frenchman currently(formerly #6 ranking). He new that Novak likes fast pace balls so didn't give him that. Seems that he knows Novak likes angles so not much of that either.

Just curious as to standard practice: does everyone measure their SW with stringing added alone or with dampeners, overgrip and/or head tape as well?

With everything I am using for play.

I'm at 345 (had a measuring session earlier today).
That's what makes the most sense to me, too. I have a new Angell stick that is a bit higher with dampeners, overgrip and head tape (~350) than the SW of my YTPPs with all of that stuff added as well (~330). I'm gonna hit with it for the first time this weekend and I'm hoping it's easier on my TE without being too difficult to whip.

Check out the recoil weight thread in that regard, it really does help with such issues. In fact, look through all of the videos on that YouTube channel (aside from the MgR/I video) for a concise and enlightening analysis on racquet specs and their effects.

Thanks. I've been in that thread a lot lately.

It depends on the shot for me.

For serve, I like the SW 320-325
For FH, I like the SW around 330-335
For 2HBH, I like the SW around 340-345.

So I typically end up with a frame around 330-ish.

Interesting, I personally have found the 1st serve benefits the most from extra SW. Am able to hit the back fence in one bounce with 350+ and hit more aces against opponents.

Its an overhead strength thing for me. My shoulder has been surgically repaired so high SW's tend to bother it. Otherwise I'd love to rip into a serve with a high SW racket.

I have been playing with 345~, but recently went up to 355 for experimentation and noticed my serve is faster (hits the back fence in one bounce, more aces) but having some trouble with groundstrokes going long. I'll see if i can tame it with going up 1-2 lbs in tension.

For groundstrokes I can play with any SW from 340-360, but I like higher twistweight for backhands & return of serve. I actually like low twistweight for manuverability & spin on the forehand, sucks that everything is a compromise.

Try wrapping a second overgrip from the mid point of your handle up to the top for a bit more leverage for your second hand. I've noticed that the thicker top handle gives me a bit more of a chance to hit through the ball as if my racquet has a bit higher twistweight, when really in fact I'm just hitting it a bit cleaner and able to get the racquet around contact.

340-360 is a huge range, jeez. I love 325 personally, but I feel like a little bit more SW like 3-4 points is what I like to get a bit more penetration into the court. Anything above 330 and I'm a mess on the court and my forehand can't get enough spin.

Yeah, I find that im more sensitive to static weight and twistweight. I can play with a variety of SW's depending on how the racket is set-up. I feel like my serve is maximized around 355-360 though.

If the static weight is too high, I have to lower SW to get maneuverability. I like rackets between 340-350 grams.

325 would have me trying to swing too hard to get power. I like to stay relaxed and let the racket do most of the work.
