Simona Halep's Doha path

She'll have to play well to win any matches, but at least the heavy guns are in the other half:

She gets Wild Woz 3rd round

Caroline Garcia
3 5

Elena Vesnina
6 7

That should be good for Halep, except that Vesnina is warmed up, what with Qs and so so.

Simona can't ask for more: she's in prime tomorrow on center, tomorrow
11 am EST Halep - Vesnina

BTW, Horia Tecau needs to school her more in doubles:
[8] A Klepac / K Srebotnik (SLO/SLO) d [WC] S Halep / R Olaru (ROU/ROU) | 7 - 5 | 6 - 4 |

Simona Halep is in the US to train with Cahill mainly, and to have several sessions with Agassi and Graf arranged by Cahill. Let's hope for the best.

Apparently it's nothing special that Graf is working with her for a few sessions. Apparently Graf and her Vegas academy helped Kerber this time last year as well. That ended up doing well though so hopefully it does for Halep.

So it's not like Graf is on her coaching team.

2016 IW R1
tomorrow, center court
(about) 18.30 EST
Simona Halep - Vania King
(0-1 career, but that match was in 2010)
let's see ...

Halep, in excellent shape, quickly dismisses King.
However, the new advertised elements are still not there.
Let's see what she can do in IW without them.
Next, Makarova, of a much sterner stuff than King.
Cahill didn't seem too relaxed in the stands.

Nadia Comaneci and Bart Conner (her husband, olympic gymnastics champion too) attending IW, in Halep's box.
Nadia's Height - 5 ft 4 in (163 cm): smaller than Simona :)
Bart is of Simona's height :)
Great bodies in small packages.

Great control of the ball in windy conditions to beat Makarova, never an easy feat
Playing quite long.
No new elements, but she seems in great shape again.
Strychova next, still let's hope Halep and Serena meet next ...

Is Halep 5ft 7?

Halep Breezes Past Makarova

Defending champion Simona Halep dealt brilliantly with swirling conditions to ease past former Top 10 player Ekaterina Makarova to reach the fourth round in Indian Wells.

Up next for the No.5 seed is Barbora Strycova; the Czech veteran has been one of the most consistent players this season with a run to the finals in Dubai and a second week showing in Melbourne; the two have split their only two previous encounters, but Halep triumphed in their most recent meeting at the 2014 China Open.

The match with Strychova was up and down at the beginning, but Cahill was very smart to see the slowness of that particular court and to ask for more top and for reducing the speed of the ball offered to the opponent. That, Simona executed to perfection.

The hardest job of them all follows seemingly tomorrow in prime time:

10 pm EST, center court
QF 2016 Indian Wells
Simona Halep - Serena Williams

FULL MATCH
simona halep - serena williams indian wells 2016

To be honest I have always found her overhyped. I would be a bit surprised if she ever wins a slam, particularly seeing her blow such a golden opportunity at the U.S Open.

Now that Sharapova (one of her nemeses) is out of the picture for a while let's see what Halep can do. If she can't do anything in this weaker field she really is hopeless.

Tough upcoming 4th R in 2016 Miami: H. Watson
11 am EST
but she shouldn't complain:
Azarenka - Muguruza, that's the luck of the draw:cool:

Impressive to see Halep playing so-so (not that I'm delighted by it), still beating Watson.

She had better get her best game out for Baczinsky, for that one, she thinks
(but surely was just beaten by Kasatkina)

2016 Madrid

Finally back in a final

Halep Returns To Madrid Final
May 06, 2016
Simona Halep returned to the final of the Mutua Madrid Open after outclassing Samantha Stosur on Friday evening.

Powerful movement, even though no new elements.

Now, let's see her against Cibulkova - stern test.

Congrats Simona! Glad to see her back. Of course, made the best of it after a lot of favourites bolted out prematurely, but hey, that's not to blame her. :)

Missed this match but Domi was playing very well and is the type of player who can blast anyone off the court. Happy for Simona !! Now go get the French!

Has she got her mojo back? Would you be willing to put her ahead of Kerber or Azarenka in terms of favouritism for the French Open title?

Great week.

But still have this feeling she can't win a major without help - e.g. the 'big girls' being injured or upset by someone else. Which, given the way things are going this year, might happen. We'll see if Azarenka and Serena are in any shape to win RG.

She may be the Kei Nishikori of the WTA.

Possibly yes to your first question, but no to your second. Would still bet on the latter two over her.

Tough opponent for Halep in R2 in 2016 Rome:
Daria Gavrilova
(AUS) d Sabine Lisicki (GER) | 6 - 1 | 7 - 6 (3) |
At least she isn't a power player, like Lisicki.
