Bonjour!

With the change in moderators of the Babolat Official account, we felt it best to start a new thread, so we’d like to welcome you to Bonjour from Babolat….Part Trois! We will do our best to continue the wonderful tradition that Mansoor and Daniel before him created, and we are thrilled to be a part of the Talk Tennis community. Below you will find our intro letters so you can learn a little bit more about us.

Sean:

Bonjour TW forum members,

My name is Sean I’ll be teaming up with Josh to provide you with the most in-depth brand knowledge and product information possible moving forward. We’d like to thank Tennis Warehouse as well as Daniel and Mansoor for paving the way and providing us with a platform to communicate directly with each of you.

A little about me: former college player at Saint Louis University (Go Billikens!); Academy coach at John Newcombe’s Tennis Ranch in New Braunfels, TX; employee at Babolat for the past 6+ years. My experiences at Babolat have ranged from Sports Marketing to Trade and Field Marketing activations. I’ve also been fortunate enough to collaborate with our global teams on photo shoots and content creation projects and have had the privilege to be the hitting “dummy” with many of our athletes including Rafa, Thiem, Sock, Fognini, Muguruza, Bouchard, Wozniaki and others. I look forward to sharing the knowledge I’ve gleaned from such experiences while gaining your respective opinions and thoughts on the sport we love.

Josh:

I've been an Inside Sales rep with Babolat for going on 6 years, and I work with accounts in UT, CO, NM, AZ, NV, TX, OK, KS, NE, IA, MO, AR, MS, and TN. Additionally, I’m a member of the Babolat stringing team, and I'm headed to my fifth French Open in a couple weeks. I also found out recently that I'm going back for a third time to the Western and Southern Financial Open in Cincy in August, where I have the pleasure of working alongside the Priority 1 crew. In addition, I have been stringing for the University of Colorado tennis team since 2005.

Prior to working for Babolat, I was the hard goods manager for a racquet specialty store in Boulder, CO, where I started stringing professionally in 1999. We carried equipment for tennis, racquetball, squash, table tennis, badminton, platform tennis and pickle ball. I became a USRSA MRT in 2004, and an ERSA Pro Tour Level 1 stringer in 2012. With roughly 40,000 racquets strung in my time, you could say it’s a true passion of mine. I also enjoy customizing racquets, and was fortunate to have use of an RDC at the shop I worked in. I hope to explore more customizing work in my day to day job for Babolat in the future.

I was also a longtime 4.5 league and tournament player until I tore a meniscus in my left knee in 2011. I still play for fun when I can, and I'm currently using a customized Pure Strike VS. My current setup is:

A 5/8 built to ¾ with a heat shrink tube, roughly 325 grams strung, an inch HL and a swingweight of 320. I say roughly, because I am always tweaking things. Because I can, and because I enjoy it!

I am old school as far as string goes due to sporadic elbow issues, so I shy away from polyester in general. My current favorite string setup is VS 16 mains (54 lbs), Origin 17 crosses (52 lbs).

Some of my racquets from the past include:

Head Edge aluminum (1st rqt, strung with Leoina 66), Yamaha Secret 4, Wimbledon Eclipse 88, Hammer 5.2, Volkl C7 Pro, Quantum 10 Tour, Catapult 10, Tour 9 V-Engine, V1 classic, K Blade 98, K ProTour, Dunlop 200G (black/gray Pioline model), Pure Storm, and Pure Drive Play.

I’ve tried more strings than I can remember or could list here while I was working in a shop, but here are some of my favorites through the years:

DNA Helix, Live Wire XP, NXT Tour, Xcel Power, Origin, Fiber Ace, NRG and of course VS!!!

In order to not get us confused, Sean and I will sign off on each post so you know who you are speaking to. In general, my job keeps me busy until early afternoon Mountain time, so Sean will usually handle the morning shift on the forum, and I’ll have the closing shift.

I want to say how much I'm looking forward to the opportunity to be a part of this amazing and vibrant community. I hope we can all learn from each other, and have fun doing it. I will always do my best to provide you with answers to your questions, and when I don't know something, I will do my best to find out for you. Tennis is my passion, as I'm sure it is for most of you, and I can't wait to share that passion with all of you.

Hello! Just like when Mansoor took over and everyone asked if Daniel had been let go, has Mansoor? I hope not, he seemed very cool.

Welcome!!

Now for some questions from TT members.

Will Babolat be coming out with a new Pure Drive around December of 2017?

Babolat (Sean / Josh)

I think it is awesome that you have such a strong presence on this forum. Well done to Babolat. I do have a couple questions. First, I believe it has been confirmed previously that the Pure Strike VS Tour was simply a paint job of the Pure Control Tour. Is that the case as the reviews make you think that is not the case? I am a fan of the PCT and enjoyed that frame. I have hit with the VS Tour and I do think there are differences (not huge) but I do like that frame as well. My second question is based on the answer of the first. Why is the VS Tour $10 more expensive than the PCT and the other new Pure Strikes if it simply a paint job? $10 is not going to sway me one way or the other but I am curious as to he logic (and I understand cost of materials, inflation, etc).

Thanks again for your presence and openness to answer our questions.

You guys hit a home run with the paint quality of the current pure strikes. I hope the same attention and process is applied to the upcoming new pure drive.

This is awesome. I wish every tennis racquet and equipment company would have reps on this board. Kudos to Babolat, always providing top customer service.
Thank you! It's a real pleasure to be honestly, and to be a part of such an active tennis community. I am really looking forward to it!

Just a bit of feedback for you guys. I loved the new Pure Strike (project one 7). Does everything well and it played beautifully. However, after a few times of hitting with it in a comfortable full poly, my arm started hurting and feeling tender. I sold the frame and I no longer play with it. Why can’t you make a frame that is comfortable on the arm??? I haven’t seen one since the pure storm tour which was a great racquet and no pain.

Seems like Pure Strike VS Tour is just another generation of Storm/Control Tour so maybe try that

Have you tried the Pure Strike VS racquets? They are a bit softer with a 65 flex.

Thanks for the warm welcome! The Pure Drive will be launched earlier than that, but just the Pure Drive. I'm hearing now that it will be August/September for the Pure Drive, and January/February for the rest of the family.

-Josh

Awesome we are getting a new Pure Drive in September, just in time for back to school shopping :)

Hi Noah,

Mansoor actually decided to leave Babolat to pursue a career in the medical field. From what eh was telling me, he was even considering med school. He was a great guy, and will always be a part of the Babolat family.
Oh I see, that's very cool! If you could, the next time you see/talk to him, wish him luck from the Talk Tennis community please. Thanks

Sean or Josh,

do you guys have any suggestions for a new racquet?

I'm 5.0-5.5 and play all court tennis with a focus on offensive baselining. I'm coming from a Yonex Ezone DR98 and I really like the smooth of the racquet. If there is one thing I would change about my DR is the string bed. Its slightly closed for my liking. Other than that, I think I am good. I do my own lead taping so the specs shouldn't matter as long as they are under 11.7oz

If you don't want to go to a very stiff and open setup (Pure Aero), then maybe try the Pure Strike 16x19 (Project One7). It is also 98", has 8 strings in the throat, and more open string pattern because the crosses are spaced farther apart than most racquets (FSI technology). This gives more spin and power.

Babolat user here, ex Babolat hater.

My advise: keep being loyal to your "power oriented" style. Dont try to copy other brands as other brands try to copy you.

For those who ask for flexy frames, there are many other brands out there...

Hi Sean or John

Need some help; I learned to play tennis with babolat "pure power" 16x19 (weight 295g, flex 70 RA, balance 320 mm) and still own a couple of those.
I am wondering wich is the actual correspondent version to this stick.

Thanks,

If you want to stick to Babolat, go for the Pure Aero VS or the Pure strike VS. For me, the Ezone DR 98 was kinda a player's racquet. The Wilson Burn FST swings really smoothly in my experience and is underrated. Really all of the newer Burn racquets are smooth and feel good and might be something you wanna try.

I highly recommend you revisit the amazing playability of16 gauge VS uncoated. I remember the old days in the early 70's when a summer we could string 3000 sets of VS. 17 gauge uncoated was good too but had a narrow playability range of 15% of 16 gauge because of the taughtness of the string. I wish you would reintroduce gut wax to the market. I would never the tin "cracker box" gut used to come in. I have one packed away somewhere. Thanks for your your fine research and quality of product..

Is there a way you could release specs of all the players that use your racquets like Daniel did few yrs ago?

WOW, Welcome. You guys are the BEST. Anyway, in this NCAA D1 championships, I see so many D1 college players using Pure Aero or pure aero plus frames. Are these all real pure aeros or does some of the college players use paint jobs as well ?

http://www.ncaa.com/interactive-bracket/tennis-men/d1

And Please Please ask Babolat to make New pure drive Plus coming out this year to have Swing weight of around 314-316 strung. I don't care what you do with Pure drive regular length. Thank you so much

While many of the players will customize their own racquets, what they are playing with is a stock frame from our warehouse.

Also, we will pass along your sentiments regarding the 2018 Pure Drive +! Thanks for the feedback.

Hi Vaz,

I had to look in our archive to find this racquet! I remember it being part of the line, but we didn't carry it in the shop I ran. I think your best bet would be to start with the Pure Drive 107. It's lighter, but you can add the weight to get the balance where you like it as well. I believe it's a little stiffer, but you can fine tune that with string tension. There really isn't a direct replacement in the line, but I think this would be the closest.

Hi dgoran,

I will ask our International Sports Marketing Manager Seth when I am in Paris later this week. He is the gentleman who works directly with our players, and will let me know if this is possible. I've seen some lists through they years, but it's not always something the players want released. The most recent list I saw only had racquet and string, and no further info. I'll keep you posted.

Hi @Babolat Official ,

I have a pair of Babolat Fury (love the shoes! Probably my favourite shoe currently out there), but unfortunately the Power Belts broke off yesterday while playing? I remember this happening to a member during the playtest (https://tt.tennis-warehouse.com/ind...test-babolat-propulse-fury-shoe.576479/page-2) and it appeared as if there may be a warranty opportunity? Would my case apply as well?

Please let me know. Thanks! I have attached a picture of my shoe below.
