This is only the 4th match of Federer's career in a Slam that he had double digit double faults. The last time was in 2011.

Millman played really well and have to give credit but what a terrible match from Federer. I don't think I've ever seen him play that bad in a major. I really don't think Federer dealt well with the conditions tonight and struggled with his energy level and tiredness because of it.

Seriously, congrats to Millman. Big props.

But as far as Federer is concerned, I feel nothing. I couldn't even summon the energy to get nervous in that last TB or any point in this match for that matter. He's just playing too badly. It's a sad sight.

Djokovic heavy favorite for the title now. From losing to Ceccinato guy to winning two Slams in a row. Should incredible story.

OK guys I really don't like saying this about arguably the greatest champion the sport's ever seen and someone who I believe is grossly underrated as a fighter but I really do believe Federer tanked that match. Honestly can't recall the last time I saw him play so poorly in a major. Kudos to Millman though - very professional and solid performance by him.

I never thought I'd live to see anything worse than 2013, but this is absolutely horrendous. His good days are still passable, but his bad days are getting much worse.

2013 was waaaaaaaay worse lmao. In 2013 we thought it’d end at 17. Now he’s at 20 and we know there’s a precedent to this sort of drought.

All gravy, baby. If you expect Federer to play well forever, you’re bound to be severely disappointed one day...even if he bounces back from this slump.

Stfu. Both played great, amazing baseline rallies but Millman was so good that he could sweep peak-Roger. He actually did a favour to tennis world :)

He'd only be a bit of a favorite in a final against Nadal. Should get there though pretty easily unless there is a major hiccup.

Don't think he tanked. The conditions wore him out.

Do you think maybe the Cincinnati final drubbing was in the back of his mind?

I'd rather not watch fed than watch beyond beyond pathetic stuff like this.

rubbish stuff.

mte tired of people being obnoxious about fed fans and being like we're overreacting. yes I'm happy to still see fed playing but ialso like watching good tennis and this was not it

The only coming out of this - Fed saved himself from embarrassment in QF against Djokovic.

Still a lot of Tennis left him. But needs a lot of desire, hunger, efforts and of course Edberg.
There's no tennis left in him unless he gets crap easy draws and avoids any of the top players. He's got no chance in hell of winning anything ever again if Djokovic, Nadal or Del Potro are waiting for him in the next round.

Fed's entire season may well have been different had he just converted one of his MP's against Del Po at Indian Wells. That was the beginning of all this mental baggage in 2018.

those idiots can go to hell.

Edit : Looks like its safer to just watch highlights (or even full match) after you've heard he's played atleast decent rather than watch his match live.

oh stop, honestly fed has not been playing well since the Anderson match. you don't think fed thinks it is better to lose to an atg and defend his points.

I didn't watch the match, but Federer should still be able to grind out wins even when if he makes 100UFE. The last year he's had so many opportunities with match points, set points but cannot convert. This time he should have been 2-0 up but blew it. He had SP in the 3rd and blew it. His shots have declined but a lot of it seems to be increased mental pressure which is turning matches he should be scraping through into matches he's losing.

Didn't realize until the post match recap that Fed had set points to go up 2-0 on Millman. It's like the Anderson match all over again. Weird how he's going mentally a wall lately.

Federer played bad. He didn’t tank you morons.

The reason why things felt off is not because Federer was missing shots he shouldn't be missing... it was because he was missing shots he usually wouldn't be making.

Like he was trying to hit low percentage shots when the match was on the line... just doesn't seem like what he would normally do.
