Yonex Vcore Pro 97

For a while my bag contained: vcore 95 (main stick), DR 98 and a vcore pro 97 310. All strung hybrid with alu power and wilson syn gut. The 97 was the last one added and I started playing with it more and more. It feels very addictive. It has more power than the 95, a little less control but more spin. It is stiffer so I have to see how my arm holds up after a competition day. I hope this will be the end of my search for a bigger head with some power and still enough control (coming from the prestige mid).

Looking for a good cross to use in a hybrid with the 97 330 model and vs touch 16 gut in the main. Please reply with tensions of each you liked as well. Thanks

Anyone here that also has the feeling the vcore pro 97 is a longer frame? I love the frame but I sometimes have the feeling I take the ball too close to my body with this frame, never had that with other frames.

I always feel that way with Yonex frames

Some do, some don't I guess. I especially notice on the VCore Tour line.

I just put the 97 and the dr98 on top of each other. The photo is not straight from above, but I see why I feel its longer. The hoop itself is clearly longer, the dr98 is wider.

That photo appears to illustrate that the dr98 has a sweet spot located higher up. So it’s actually the Dr98 that would feel longer in use, as the sweet spot is further away from your hand. The only way that would not be case is if the Vcore has way more weight located higher up to drag the sweet spot up. Which I don’t think it does, as the balance is similar and the dr98 has much more swing weight.

Posted on this frame in the Holic thread but I got a 310 and from reading a lot of posts here, naturally assumed that I should put a little lead on it at 2 and 10. Ended up peeling it off after 40 minutes and the frame plays magnificent for me. I like to generate my own power but I like to get a little help too, and the YY is perfect for that. Its a very satisfying way to play tennis. I have fairly long strokes, but they are modern. Not like Tiafoe modern, i still hit through the ball a little before I pull up, but I am pleasantly surprised at how heavy I can hit with this frame. I am coming from a Phantom 93 which is a 350 gram frame. Pretty crazy how this frame plays so solid and hits so big at such a low SW. I dont notice much instability either so far.

@Power Player Great to hear you're on board the VCore Pro train. IHMO it's an underappreciated players frame, does everything really well while being stable and vibration free. Have been using the 330 as my main frame since it came out.

Nice, I used the 330 version of the Tour G, and loved that frame. This time I was looking to drop weight and to get my racquet speed up a little. I honestly did not expect to be able to play a players frame with such nice ball feel at such a low weight, but here we are. It’s a lot easier to get full swings out on heavier shots that catch me off balance. Normally in that situation I block/slice back but now I can just keep swinging. Pretty great. Ill play some more with it in a little bit and see if anything changes.

Pretty interesting to see people earlier in here say the 310 is unstable. I dont notice that at all and have faced some pretty good hitter so far. Additionally the twistweight on the frame is 13.48 which is very stable. It’s more stable than the prior version based on that number. I’m a pretty strong guy and can generate my own power so maybe that’s why I like this frame strung low at stock weight. I think the solid feel and the higher twistweight helps as well.

Still haven't settle on a string over here, but will say, this racquet is the ONE - at least for me. Think I might by 6 of em just to have a stash. Currently running Luxilon ALU at 56lbs, still a bit to springy for me. I think I might like just really really really dead low low low powered strings. Any thoughts on what that might be?

I’m using Kirschbaum Max Power rough 1.25. It’s perfect in this frame. The name max power makes no real sense since this frame is very low powered. It’s also somewhat similar to ALU as it generates a lot of spin and is a control string.

That said, if ALU @56 pounds is springy, I am not sure what to tell you there, as I find ALU to be a control string with enormous spin. I can control the ball with ease at over 10#s less using the max power, so that may be a good sign for you.

Hey guys, the Tour G 310 was my main racquet for a while, I liked all about it except its heavy throat. I know the Duel G and the current V Pro solve this issue, but despite that, I'm interested in two things: control and launch angle. How is it in the current model?
If new models are coming, and even in a more closed pattern, maybe I should wait.

Control is awesome. Launch angle is fine. I switched from a modded Ultra Tour. Uber control and 18/20 pattern. The vcp 97 310 is equal or better in every way. This frame is just ridiculously good. Goat frame for me.

Control is excellent, it does not feel like an 16x19 pattern at all. The same goes for launch angle, it is not as low as in the ultra tour, but i find it really good and again, is not like any other 16x19.

I read somewhere in this forum about a limited edition with 18x20 pattern but i do not know if it's true. About new models, the Vcore Pro 97 was released last year, so i doubt any uptades will be made soon.

Launch angle is about the same as Tour G. A little easier to generate net clearance, but it plays about the same. Slices are still really low and nasty and the driving ball off you get from a 16x20 is still there. The throat thing is gone. Control is a standout feature for me, and I string at 45#s.

I have no idea when new models are coming, but I suspect it will be a while, and this frame is awesome. I played the Tour G330, and I find this to be a very very satisfying replacement for that model at a lower weight.

To add, I didn’t think the lower SW and weight would suit my game, but it plays so solid at that weight that power has not been an issue so far. I should be logging another couple hours with it tonight so I can keep adding impressions.

Also, if you look at the vibration charts, the 330 has a higher number than the 310. That simply means that the 310 has a bit of a softer feel to it as well, which I personally appreciate.

Wow, now I'm seriously considering buying one!
Also in case you’re wondering what level I play at which is important when you read reviews, I don’t play usta but all of my friends, many who have played usta, tell me I’m between a good 4.0 - weaker 4.5.

Demo it and see what you think. I wasn’t expecting to like it given the string pattern and the rest of the specs. The way it played the first time out just blew my mind.
The demo program here is not so good, is like, oh, you think you like that racquet? Cool, buy it!
Didn't like it? No problem, sell it!
Now, seriously, I think I'll put my V Core 98 at sell to try the Pro.

The main reason this racquet popped in my head was I remembered myself playing so good with the Tour G at the point that even my coach said me that that was the racquet for me. I think it was one of the best for my drive, I could generate a lot of HRS without sacrificing control. Simply amazing. Plus, the racquet has plenty of room to add leather grip and lead if needed. Tempting...

I suffer with the same problem in my country, no demo program at all. What i do is buy an used, cheap racquet to demo and then buy new ones if a like it.

Had one of those nights where I was tired and sore and moving like I was 70 years old. Took me a while to get anything going out there. Kind of cool because I saw certain things I did when fatigued and was able to fix them. One is try to hit flatter than needed. That’s not going to work with the 310. It really encourages a low to high swing path, which is how should I hit anyway. So when the ball was hitting the net, I knew I had to make changes and drop the frame more. Main thing I love with this frame is it accentuates my spin and I can still shape the ball in a linear manner. So low to high, heavy and deep shots are really not that tough to just fire off over and over. I was able to get in a groove and go i/o 3-4x until the opponent was almost in the doubles alley and then fire one down the line for an easy winner.

Hit with a pro for a while who had a mega forehand. Just picturesque how nicely he dropped the frame and ripped the ball. Big dude too with a lot of power. He was being cool and sending me easy stuff for a while but I kept on the gas and he could not time my spin well. So he finally started sending me the real heat and it was awesome to trade blows with this guy. Main thing I can say is I never felt pushed around. He told me after I had really great spin on my FH.

So I can safely say if you are playing at 4.0 or 4.5 level you can really take away the timing of your opponent and play a heavy spin game with this racquet if that is your style. In some ways this reminds me slightly of the Rdis 200, which was my first Yonex frame. It had a really great soft feel but the pattern was more open and you couldn’t hit through the ball like you can with the 310. It also looked terrible, but I didn’t care and bought 4 of them because they were a complete steal. Not sure if any of you all ever used this one? It had a ultra buttery feel to it.

Caveat, this is my first string job so the grommets always need to settle in. It came off the stringer at 45#s but now its down to 34#s. I am still able to play with it at this tension but I’m flirting with the line a lot. I think I will string it next time at 48/46 and I am anticipating a drop to around 40#s, which is fine.

IMHO the vcp97 is a far better racket than the rdis200. :)

I agree with the rest of what you posted. Awesome frame.

I love the 310, but I am not sure I’d say it is far better, but it IS better for me. The Rdis series I believe was replaced by the Vcore so it makes sense that the heritage is still there. The thing about the RDIS 200 was it was one of the first frames where Yonex started catering more to topspin players who like the sweet spot a little higher in the bed, and thats why they got one to Verdasco for a while.

In many ways the 200 kind of shaped what we have now in the 310 - which is a softer control frame made for the modern baseliner. I think with the 310 they found the perfect combo of feel/weight/string pattern.

I guess it isn’t a fair comparison cuz I am a much better player now than I was back then. Even if you handed me a vcp back then I probably wouldn’t have appreciated it. That’s the truth.

When you say this racquet isn't for flat shots I thought you were going to say that the balls were sailing long, but quite the opposite haha. I also tend to play flatter when I'm tired, but let me ask you a question, if you do want to hit flat, does it work?

I've been a huge fan of the Vcore 97 310's since the original cherry red one. Unfortunately the Vcore Pro didn't work for me. I'm not sure if it was the flex in the hoop or the string pattern. I loved the old 16x20 pattern. Too bad, because I love the paint job. But glad to hear so many others are enjoying it. Did anyone else think the pro feels way different than the previous three?

Oh yeah. For sure. Probably want to string tighter than me though. What i meant more was my swing path was a little too flat and i was not lifting the ball over the net. Its just an error i was making due to lack of focus.

Interesting, I found it to be a great stick for when I was lazy. For me vcp 330 is one of the best racquets for hitting flat with. It's got really nice mass to drive the ball but with the thinner beam I found it came through the zone really fast compared to my rf97 i was using at the time. I found it great for topspin because I found that I could really whip through the ball but that's just me

I played with poly tour spin (the blue string)because it came with it for free and loved it. Quite a firm and crisp feeling string, you can really feel the snapback.
I've started using alu rough and love it. would love to try it in that frame

Oh yeah the Pro 97 is an all around frame you can play any game with it. It’s just with the low trajectory and how I hit the ball, it benefits me to hit a little more low to high. That said, I am also currently playing at 35#s, and ill normally play 10 pounds tighter.
