Are you glad the USO went ahead like this?

Obviously, we're tennis fans and we love tennis. But, many were skeptical for a variety of reasons.

Personally, even with the somewhat depleted fields and lack of crowds, I think it's been worth it and the USTA has done a commendable job. And the players have been great - high intensity even in the muted surroundings.

Well they kind of have too. Covid cases worldwide are at there highest recording 250,000+ new everyday worldwide. It’s not really going away and no fans or limited with distance is going to around for all sports for the foreseeable future.
The reason they had too is you can’t just cancel all sports for the next few years and it’s smart as tennis isn’t a contact sport.
USTA have done a good job so far I agree

Absolutely. I just hope they had allowed some audience, say 10% capacity which would allow a vacant row every other row, and two or more vacant seats on people's left and right (people from the same household can seat together). Front rows closed to protect crew and players.

The tournament has been pure garbage with a weak field and no crowd energy to bring excitement. Djokovic will win the title beating a bunch of bums.

I've been enjoying the tournament. I always enjoy the first rounds the most, even if the matches don't involve the top players there are always a few really exciting matches to watch. It's also nice to see a lot of young guys making it through to (at least) the 4th round.

As for the Djokovic shoe-in stuff, I gotta say his form was unbelievable against Struff. If he keeps that level no one would really stand a chance anyway. The sad part is that his level probably is going to drop, but he's still going to clean up anyway.

Very glad they went ahead. They seem to be doing a good job with safety protocols (fingers crossed) while having the tournament happen, and it is great to be watching grand slam tennis again, even if it is a bit weird.

Yes I am, but mostly because I have been having major competitive tennis withdrawals. I would have liked to have seen at least some fans, but we all know it would have been only the guys with the bucks that made it in, and most of the atmosphere is provided by the regular Joes in the crowd. It’s really not worth the health risk though. I hope next years AO can proceed as normal

Up until a day before I was sceptical but the USTA have done a great job apart from touching rackets at the end it doesn’t feel any different even down to the AI applause once it’s a good match you get so into watching it you forget about the backdrop to the tournament

Watching first match just today with Shapovalov. Only other sporting events I've watched is Raptors in NBA. Without fans it looks lame as hell. I also like to attend live events. Was planning on attending USO. Lame.

Personally, I've never understood why it went ahead. And what happened to Mlad and Babos? All the talk now is obviously about Djokovic, but hardly any top women made the trip.
It's a ghost town of a tournament.
Whomever wins it, to my mind, it's a tarnished title.
Obviously many will disagree with me.
I can live with that.

But, Mlad and Babos and Djokovic were unforeseen when the tournament began - I wouldn't consider how the tournament played out in assessing if I was pleased that it went ahead in the first place. Though, from your comments, you seem clear that you think it never should have gone ahead. What was it for you - the depleted fields, the reality of doing this during a pandemic and the health risks, the lack of crowds? I think there's more than a few who agree with you.

A sub par field just added to my consternation. But mostly because it seems crazy to play it during a pandemic, and to encourage people to travel to the States of all places.
It appears to favour American players, especially Serena Williams.
I have watched some matches and it appears soulless.
And now will mostly be remembered for Djokovic.
