Imagine this scenario. Novak arrives in Australia, reaches the SFs only to lose to Zverev in his first Top 10 Slam win ever LOL

That would be a) completely plausible tennis-wise and b) utterly hilarious on a cosmic level

How would you react if Nole manages to bungle this and lose in his quest for #10 at the AO and #21 overall?

You can't lose a tennis match even if you are Novak? There is nothing to "balls" up. He can lose or win just like anyone.

To be fair a version of Djokovic that was playing well enough to win the tournament has only lost once at the AO and that was 2014.

On the other hand, a 1R loss, or DQ via corona infection, would be hilarious.

Then Novak wins the French, gets triple career slam, ties Nadal at 21, and becomes the undisputed GOAT.

Djokovic 30%
Zverev 30%
Medvedev 30%
Nadal 8%
The rest of the field 2%

Zverev or Medvedev winning this wouldn't be hilarious at all, just... logical. They both have what it takes to beat Djokovic on hard courts, and they have both proved it last year.

Winning the slam race (probably for good) after getting humiliated in his last appearance in a Slam final, THAT would actually be a lot more hilarious, imo.

And if he loses AO but wins Wimbledon later this year, AO22 will be quickly forgotten I think. An AO exit will only have major historical significance if he never wins another slam again,... which is quite possible, but I wouldn't bet on it.

Let's be honest, given his record at the tournament and everything that's been going on in recent months with this whole will he or won't he play saga it will be big news if he loses.

Good to know that Novak is coming to Australia.

No regret even if he loses, at least it is better that allowing some vultures to vulture wins.

Already 1 guy vultured USO 2020, another guy was waiting to vulture number 21 in the absence of Novak, glad that such a scenario is not happening.

Its a very plausible scenario
He hasn't played a match since November, he is almost 35, he was destroyed in his last slam match

Come to think of it, it would be a surprise if he wins
Same goes for Rafa on clay except he will be 36

Well, he has staved off the inevitable. My predictions are, admittedly, not great, but I see it as pretty close among Novak, Med and Z, and still see a few others as capable of springing an upset.
