How do you beat Alcaraz? Djoker and Rafa discuss how

Rafa: why are we meeting down here in the basement of the collesium?

Djoker: it is where I keep my cryogenic lab, but forget that it doesbt work anymore. We need to figure out how to beat Alcaraz and continue to win slams.

Rafa: should we wait for Fed first?

... Long pause....

Both: hysterical laughter

Djoker: okay but seriously we should be upset, this tiny kid who is only 172cm is embarrassing us. Stole my hair, stole your style, and people already saying he will be better farm animals than us.

Rafa: so can people milk me?

Djoker: I'm vegan so I haven't tried on myself yet

Tsits: hey guys

Djoker and Rafa: get out!

..... So, TTW experts, how does djoker and Rafa play against Tiny Carlos on clay and hard in order to hold him off for a few more years. What tactics should they use? They are the best at coming up with new ways to challenge opposition, can they do it with tiny Carlos?

According to google, carlos is 6'1", rafa is 6'1", djoker is 6'2". I was surprised, I thought carlos was shorter than 6'1". Winning tactic: good approach shot or serve, come in, put away volley. Easier said than done. Carlos' speed, agility, youth will give him an advantage, especially towards the end of a match. Although that's what I thought recently with rafa and he proved us all wrong (I think it was medvedev in a final, rafa with a huge comeback in a grueling match, one of the most epic matches of all time, one of the most impossibly crazy comebacks of all time). Winning tactic #2: go for the line every time with lots of pace and hope you're on that day.

Ask, what would Federer do? There lies the answer. Federer would mix it up, vary the depths, spins, short slices and keep asking all possible questions and test Alcaraz’s shot tolerance to the limit while giving him no rythm. That’s what one needs to do against Alcaraz. Federer would have been the Big 3 member with the most success against Alcaraz. But, oh well.

I would also expect Federer to be the most successful against Thiem, but the head to head says otherwise. It's not that simple.

Well, we are different people. Lol. Even though he left the brotherhood.

ik, just funny name similarity. Also, I believe he didn’t leave but rather was “pushed out” by the mods

Federer would figure out Alcaraz's best shot and then hit straight to it. Especially on break points.

I mean, when you cannot beat him fairly, just use the media to outright lie and incite a riot of the tournament to try and claim yourself as the winner.
Good enough for politics lately and there are certainly stupid enough people to believe it.

Right?

Nadal and djoker are heading north to 40 years old. Just take 5 years of mileage off them and they destroy giant jaw alcarez. Nadal and djoker are close to the age where Fed won his last slams. Surely you can’t expect them to hang on forever LOL

That's a ludicrous comparison as Alcaraz is nowhere near peak. Only way we can compare them is at the same age and Alcaraz seems better than both at the same age although ill caveat that with we are talking 17 years ago and tennis equipment has changed hugely in that time which perhaps assist hitting as hard as Alcaraz does so consistently

On clay Rafa just needs to play below average, and not flat out bad, and he will defeat Tiny in straight sets.
Worries me Rafa struggled so badly in Indian Wells v Alcaraz. Alcaraz schooled him Iin Madrid.
That being said Nadal did not hit one DTLFH or DTLBH against Alcaraz. Now that may be confidence and form not there or a bit of kidology by Nadal as he has done this to Djokovic before. I.e taken a beat down before a major by hitting his cross court FH all day and getting owned only to totally switch tactics when it mattered.
Nadal is Impossible to judge until the semi finals at RG.

Spike his water and energy drink with Everclear liquor! o_O After half of containers drank, Alcarez will be lossing his balance and falling down on the clay court!

Hahaha love this thread

Just to throw in my $0.02 - I've noticed that Alcaraz's running forehand lands quite short in the court, so the best play would be to try and get him on the run on the FH side then quickly close the net for a putaway volley, easier said than done though.

Has tennis equipment changed that much in recent years? I thought the big change was prior to that

Rafa was hitting even harder with much more consistency & off the charts shots on the run

This feels right to me but I've also considered that my eyes might be playing tricks because Rafa just looked more dynamic somehow.

The thing that reminds me most of Fed in Carlos is that he plays kind of upright with a compact swing. So I think it doesn't look quite as dynamic as young Rafa but I have no idea of the actual #s involved
