Shawshank Redemption is one of the best American movies in the past 15 years. Wonderful. I will say that the TV version , I think, is actually better than the theatrical version, it's tighter editing, the removal of some of the sexual language, scenes gives it a much more timeless feel to it, and less of a modern one. A new classic for sure.

I have seen Rocky 1, and 3. 1, just classic American rising of the underdog, and 2, American story of redemption. Rocky I is the classic though.

Nice list, jm, but I love The Aristocrats solely for Kevin Pollack's impression of Christopher Walken. I mean, how could you not marvel at the sheer accuracy of his impression.

He even does the whole left eye wink/shoulder shrug as he says, "That's crazy!"

Just watch: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tch7DhJWTBs&mode=related&search=

WARNING: Some crude content in the link above. :)
Maybe I am biased toward people/movies that use bad language… and The Aristocrats was absolutely loaded with it.

That's what the entire movie is based around! Around that one single joke, which its sole purpose is to fill it with the most disgusting and crude things you can think of! It's sort of a comedian/cruel humor fan sort of thing so I'm not surprised many people will like it. Imo I see it as comedy genious.

There's nothing wrong with liking Transformers, but films like that are known as "popcorn movies." Fun, but not really substantial. If that's your favorite movie of all time, then you're probably not a very critical viewer yet. That changes as you get older and your taste matures. No need to be defensive, but I'm pretty sure in a few years you will barely remember Transformers.

Good, because you're so "factual" and superior. What movies do you like, so we can know what movies are the favorites of the complete jerks?

hey what's your problem? I just found it interesting when I asked my 4 and 6 year old daughters what their favorite movies are they were HSM, HSM2 and pokemon. You don't find it the least bit amusing or interesting that a college aged guy and a 6 year old girl have similar movie tastes? It sounds like you are the one with a superiority attitude problem calling people jerks on based on harmless comments.

favor: Pearl Harbor and 'The Gladiator'

Since this is about personal choices I tried not to say anything but Pearl Harbor?(Feel free to knock down my choices lol). Ben Affleck and Josh Hartnett has got to be among the very bad actors around and the bad lines and delivery made the bombing of Pearl Harbor the second disaster in that film. End of rant.

Wow, some of you must be VERY young based on some of your all time favorites(i.e.Pokemon, Spiderman, etc.)

For me, I think an all time favorites must be the type of movie that you can enjoy watching no matter what your mood.

Many classics come to mind, like Ben Hur, Gone with the Wind, Ten Commandments, It's a Wonderful Life, etc.

So while I might enjoy more recent movies like Cinderella Man, it is not in the same category as all time favorites. Probably a movie like Braveheart can be included for me as well.
