I actually stayed in bed because I thought it would be another relatively one sided Man Utd win, which were starting to become a bit dull.

Wish I hadn't now! :(

SAF said the better team lost.

SAF is delusional if he said that. The better team can always loose 1-0 or 2-1, but the "better team" loosing 4-1 AT HOME? Yeah, his age is catching up to him, maybe he should retire; as he clearly ain't thinking right.

shouldn't Gerrard be in jail, btw?

Probably. But then again so should about 95 percent of the Scouse that populate the Kop week-in-week-out.

Did you see the goals? There was a defensive error in all of them.

Still, if it has the same knock on effect that losing to City last season had, I'll accept it.

Also, you seem rather paranoid about Fergie, is it because he's been around for years and your team's manager could change when the sugar daddy decides he's bored with the way his oversized train set is running?

Can you imagine the 'stick' Bramble would've got if he made the mistakes Vidic yesterday. Vidic is a clumsy 'bar steward', and rightfully deserved his red card.

What you rekon the chances are of Manchester City putting in a £150 Million bid for Essien? ;)

It was like playing against the under 11's when he was on the ball, amazing to be able to do it for 90 mins in your first league game back.

To be fair, Essien is one of the best in the world when on form, and I don't think that's up for debate. He truly is world class.

Yep great play from Chelsea today, you guys really missed Essein and typical City luck to be up against him his first full league game back, class all around and probably your best one looking into the future, fair play.

No De Jong or Kompany really hurt our possesion and strength in midfield, Ireland and SWP didn't really have a chance to get space when they also were trying to win balls and overpower the Chelsea midfield.

Zabaleta was EXCELLENT, he has been great since moving to midfield.

Even though we lost the defending has improved drastically from when Hughes first came, earlier in the season with how Chelsea were attacking I would have expected a few more goals but the organisation in the back has been excellent as of late, only Bridge really getting caught out since Nedum became a regular on the first 11.

Never thought I'd say this but we really missed Bellamy today, having a quicker forward to trouble Terry and Carvalho would have been a plus as Etuhu, Evans, and Caicedo were never going to make an impact on that back line. Sturridge would have even been a good choice but his injury limits options.

One great thing is that Bojinov is finally coming back, a few appearances and he has looked pretty fit, just needs a bit more time and he'll be ready along with Petrov and Johnson. Hopefully that'll be enough to push us into 7th.

He is, no doubts about it.

You know he's good when you hear the praise that fans of other teams give him, which is pretty rare for a Chelsea player.

I couldn't believed my eye Man U had lossed dramatically 1-4 to Liverpool. Poor defence duo from Vidic and Ferdinand had cut off the point from 7 to just 4. Tension tension. Totally not happy with the results especially loss to your bitter rival.

Alright boys, the official list of bidders for the 2018 and 2022 World Cups have been announced.

What do you all think? I think England will host 2018 and the USA will host 2022. I'd love to go to England and what better reason than the World Cup? I'm heading out next summer to South Africa (potential TTW Football Club meetup?) and hopefully I'll be able to go to Brazil 2014 as well. And of course you all will be welcome at my place for 2022! Obviously the final (if the USA hosts) will be in NYC, and that's my hometown!

Wouldn't that be special? The hooligans wouldn't have to deal with transportation and lodging, they're already there! 2018 or 2022 would be a month-long riot if England hosted. ;)

Mate, Scotland'd still find a way to not qualify if we hosted it!

Ah, how I love the fact that my country is in a weak confederation and never fails to qualify for the WC.

That's true, it is a very easy qualification process.

Oceania has a similar standard of opposition but the winner has to go in a play off against the 5th placed team from South America, which is VERY tough indeed.

Maybe the Americas and Oceania should be playing each other for a place instead.

I wouldn't go that far as to compare CONCACAF to Oceania. CONCACAF is weak, in comparison to Africa, Europe and South America. But there is some real quality in CONCACAF, and besides the USA, there's Mexico (not a bad side on their day, they are capable of playing pretty decent football), there's Honduras, who also has some quality (most notably Davide Suazo who is at Benfica (and is the leading scorer in the Portuguese Liga) on loan from Inter Milan). Canada is getting a hell of a lot better, especially because of the DeGuzman brothers (one is at Deportivo La Coruna in Spain and the other one is somewhere in Holland or Germany) and a few more teams have some quality as well, Jamaica is decent and play really high tempo, extremely fast football when on form.

Sure, we're not Europe. We're not Africa or South America either. But our confederation is a hell of a lot better than what Oceania has to offer, that's for sure.

That's true, it's certainly a better match though. Oceania are just fodder for the average South American teams, at least they would fancy their chances against a mid table North American side like Trinidad.

Don't get me wrong, i'm not a big fan of Australian sport so I do take some pleasure in them having to come up against a Uruguay, Chile, Ecuador etc..

I wouldn't be too pleased if i was an Australian fan though lol, they were lucky to get past Uruguay on penalties last time and they had super Guus leading them! I'm not liking their chances of making it in 2010 without him when they come up against the technical abilities of a South American side.

More like unlucky Italy had to dive and get a penalty to beat them to get to the quarterfinals.

But sadly yeah, Oceania are weak. However, New Zealand are top 150 in the world so perhaps things are looking up :|

Who are United? I've never heard of them. What about you, Breaker? Have you ever heard of this "Manchester United"?

Doesn't exactly roll of the tongue does it lol.

No, but atleast it doesn't sound like a corporate hole like most of the stadiums do here in the USA. You guys can complain when it gets as worse as we have it in the States, where we've got places like the TD-Banknorth Boston Garden or the Qualcom Field or the Ameritrade Center. No meaning whatsoever.

I agree, that was an awful penalty. EXACTLY why video replay is needed in football. I was shocked that the Italian player didn't get a red card for diving. IMO, a player that is caught diving on purpose should get a straight red card.

But sadly yeah, Oceania are weak. However, New Zealand are top 150 in the world so perhaps things are looking up :|

New Zealand have a guy playing in the Prem for Rovers, though, right? Not half bad, for a team ranked that low.

The American league, the MLS, kicked off tonight. My local side, New York, are playing at the moment. They're playing awful, thank god that the USA doesn't have a huge presence in the national media like in Europe or South America, because they'd be calling for the coach's head first thing tomorrow morning. You could take 11 random guys off the street and place them on the pitch against NY and NY would get absolutely hammered. My lord, all this hype so far is nothing but hype. Absolutely awful, uninspiring, dull, ugly football and it's not even getting things done. Down 2-0 at the moment, and things don't look like they're going to improve.

EDIT: Make that 3-0. Ugh. Juan Carlos Osario, you are an idiot. Go back to Man City or Chicago.

How lucky have United got!? Porto then Villarreal or Arsenal has to be one of the easiest quarter/semi line ups you could care to dream of.

Liverpool, Chelsea and Barca, Bayern is brutal.

I wouldn't call United lucky after they drew Porto. Granted, Mourinho isn't at Porto anymore, but you can't help but wonder. I think United will win 0-1 at Estado Drogao and then United will win 2-0 at Old Trafford.

I hope that wasn't intended as anything more than a joke. I do support Chelsea, yes, they're my favorite team in Europe. But, I do have a local team back in New York and why not support them? I've followed them since their inception and supporting them has eased a bit of homesickness for me because I live about 5,000 miles from New York at the moment. They can play decent football (albeit last night not so much) but all in all they're my local team. You all say it's best to support your local team, which is exactly what I'm doing. I love Chelsea, yes, but I have a local team and since MLS needs all the fans they can get, I figure I'll watch them and support them. What's wrong with that?

Yeah we were ****e in the second half but credit to your team for sticking through it, honestly was worried with those two goals scored in the last 5 minutes, happy we were able to scrape through on the penalites. Quarterfinals coming up come on City, even though you've made this much harder than it needed to be.

I haven't been able to see the first two days play unfortunately, but I'm glad Prince and Kallis got big scores, what an allrounder that portly lad is. Wonder what South Africa will do with their batting lineup when Smith has two good hands again. Guess Prince could take McKenzie's place as opener.

My county, Kent, have got Stuart Clark for the start of the season :D

You can't claim to be in contention for a quintuple when the same starting lineup that made mincemeat (0-4) out of one team in a cup match suddenly looses to them in the league. Liverpool? Sure. Chelsea? Definitely. But Fulham? Seriously?

^^ True haha two red cards is hilarity, finally the biased home refs coming back to bite them, waiting for Baconface's first claim that the refs were being unfair, so sweet, will be sweeter when it is us who finally puts the dagger into them at Old Trafford!

Unfortunately these kinds of losses haven't been capitalised on by the other top teams this year. Looks like Spuds are going to put the dagger into Chelsea and Liverpool have the tough fixture against Villa tomorrow. Unfortunately it looks like the Scousers have the best chance at stopping them from winning the league.

Small time club syndrome, they'll be selling comemorative t-shirts with the result on them. Much like City fans and mugs last year.

Liverpool deadly last three games with Torres finally fully fit. 5-0 Villa really symbolises where both clubs are going at the moment. Though to be fair Friedel being sent off wasn't a correct decision from what I saw on the highlights.

Don't like this international break, comes at a crucial time in the season and too much potential for players to get injured. Hench why baconface Ferguson won't let Berbatov go for the Bulgaria squad due to their thin squad with Rooney out...whoops I mean he has an ankle injury that'll keep him out for two weeks in time for the fixture with Villa.

Haha those things happen when you fall out of the top four, all of a sudden dodgy decisions start going against them instead of for them. Really Villa freefall has been quite a spectacle but they've been very lucky with injuries only using 19 players all year until Friedel was sent off! Laursen injury dented them and now Agbonlahor tiring down puts all the pressure on Carew to score goals, which he is of course very capable of but Villa relies on the counterattack too much to have only Heskey and Carew up front.

Fergiscum definitely acting that way, he sees the scousers closing in on him and can't take any chances with his players showing their true colours last few weeks. I'm sure another few convenient "injuries" will pop up just in time to avoid international duties for a few more of them as well.

For me, it's alright. I think it is a bit bland, IMO. I like the idea that returning to the classics is the new way forward, which is a good thing, look at Sweden's new kit, that one is absolutely top notch, minus the area near the neck. I would have liked it if that was the new England shirt, just with England's colors.
