WHY AREN'T THE MAJORITY(or at least half) OF THE POINTS FILMED FROM COURT LEVEL? it really captures the energy and the level of tennis the pros are playing at and it makes tennis so much more exciting to watch. It makes no sense to me. Is it because there is just too much movement making the viewers nauseous? lets make some phone calls guys.. tell em what we like.. or do we not agree?

While i like this view I think half is wayyy too much, the problem with this view is that altho you can see the pace and spin of a ball more you cant judge the depth and as much. They should show this view a bit more often but for a clearer picture where one can see everything going on at once, a slightly higher view is more suitable esp on tv.

It's because the people placing the cameras and directing the shot selection are just lazy. They aren't using or changing the camera placements from years past and are very rarely taking in to consideration the much wider aspect ration of HDTV. Lower angle shots are the future of tennis TV coverage - but you have to go through the old mindset of the sports coverage teams - not to mention the tournaments themselves are a big piece of the puzzle since they help decide where to stick the cameras vs where they can put paid people in seats.

Just an old way of thinking - and I'm with you - low - head level shots are much better to watch and really show up the athletic abilities and pace of the ball much better. Much more exciting. If TV execs are really interested in trying to up the ratings - they need to do these things.

That view just makes me dizzy. It's nice occasionally, but would get incredibly annoying for a whole match.

Me too. It's as if the balls are coming right at me and I have to duck.

That's why I never buy those expensive front row end court tickets .

There is no place to put a camera at court level and have a viable broadcast. Behind a player, you won't be able to see where the ball is landing on the other side (don't think that the depth perception that works for you on the court works on TV). Off to the side, too much camera movement (which, in person, your eye and brain do unconsciously) would be necessary to follow the action, and it woud be unpleasant to watch.

It annoys me because I can't see the person on the other side of the court and I can't see the depth of the ball either. That and the camera moves all the time.

I agree with the OP, court level tennis is the best, you can really see the actual speed of the ball. Does anyone know of any matches that were filed court level? I did a search on youtube but did not find much...

one thing is that you wont get a great view of the other side of the court like others said. Another reason is that they do it on purpose because they want to lure you in to come buy the tickets and watch the match. If they just put it court level most people might not even come to the tournaments considering the great view. Why pay 50 bucks when you have to sit sooo high up when you can watch it at court level for free in the comfort of your house.

To the OPs point, I wish court level was available too. Probably wouldn't want to watch all 5 sets - but games here and there would be great.

Would be a great idea for DirecTV and an addition to The Mix. Add some alternate views. I'd even love to watch some games from the Roof Cam at the Australian Open...
