Come on Spurs, are you going to sign anyone?!

Actually, I suppose we're waiting to see, a.) Who might be leaving first. And, then there's the small matter of b.) Is Redknapp going to get nabbed on fraud charges.

They're saying Chelsea may offer £60 Million for Bale and Modric. I can't see them getting either if i'm honest. They say Cole may want a move abroad, spending the money they would get for him on Bale, who is alot younger would make sense I suppose.

I liked this quote from Villas-Boas this morning: "This job is all I ever wanted. I accept people may view it as a gamble employing someone so young, but if I didn't believe I could succeed what is the point? I have expectations and want to look back on a career I can be proud of."

I know he spent 3-4 years at Chelsea before, but it's nice to know this was the job he really wanted. You feel that makes him want to make it work more than someone who wants to come to spend and earn alot of money.

Word on the street is that apparently Spurs have agreed a 11.5 million fee for Serdar Tasci from Stuttgart. Ross, what say you? Personally, I rate him and he's a step up from Ledly King and Johnathan Woodgate, at the very least!

well we've signed Abloydollah (that may not be the correct spellign i'm guessing) Faye as a CB and Kevin Nolan.Whom i think are what we need.Ou squad wuld be in perfect balance if 13 players hadn't left!
Now Q? for you all, Hitzlesperger, signed last summer on a big sign on bonus (so we are lead to believe) and hefty wages, gets injured playing for Germany and doesn't appear till almost FEb for his first game.Hammers relegated so he leaves due to a clause in his contract.Wouldn't it be nice if he'd of said "you know whhat, you paid my wages for 6 months when i did nothing, i'll stay till Jan at least and see how we are then?" It's a strange business.......

I don't know him at all but I'll take your word on it that he's pretty decent. BTW, I always really rated both Woody and Ledley, great players, but unfortunately dogged by injury so much of their careers.

I honestly never rated Woodgate, every time I try to think of him in a positive light I somehow manage to think back to his first match with Real Madrid, where he scored an own goal and got sent off.

And then there's that bit about how readers of MARCA voted him La Liga's worst signing of the 21st century a few years back.

Carlos Tevez again insist he wanna out of Man C. But who will buy him. Too problematic to keep as a player.

Real Madrid probably! Inter are an outside bet if they come up with some kind of deal involving Eto'o. He won't stay in England.

Chelsea are linked with Scott Dann now. I saw him quite a bit when he used to play for the non league team 30 seconds from where I live, he's a good player but the Chelsea defence isn't the problem. It's the lack of wide players and creative midfielders that has hurt the team over the past few years. With pre-season training starting this week and no new players to mesh with the squad, it's looking like it could be a tricky year.

The main issue for Tevez is his family for some reason their not with him in Manchester so i think wherever he goes is where he can settle easily with his family.

Eto would do quite well for City. Tevez, however, I don't see working out too well at Inter. He'd be awesome at Milan though, with their midfield.

As for Chelsea, it's confirmed that they've made a bid for Pastore, and he might be on his way to the Bridge.

Shoot me a message when you can, or just ask your question here. If you were wondering how the frame plays, it plays great - very good through the air, good pop on my serve, and great stability on the groundstrokes due to the lead tape.

Hulk not selected for the Copa America, this is blasphemous!

Neymar is better.

And Real absolutely stole Coentrao from Benfica, I read in Marca that it was 28 million, and then in a separate part of the deal, they sell off Garay for 10 million and thrown in Drenthe as makeweight. Nice bit of buisness from Mou. 18 million (by today's standards) plus Drenthe and Garay for Coentrao is daylight robbery.

hi im new to the forum.

tevez wont go to real madrid, tevez has said before that he wants to be more with his family, and just by listening to him i think his best bet would be to go to argentina's boca juniors, and end his career there at a young age, he has said he wants out of the sport. he has a heavy price tag, heavy salary, and not too much passion in the long run now.

and why would mou want him, he has benzema and higuain, id go for aguero if he wants someone else and keep benzema, sell higuain. but prob wont happen.

regarding coentrao, at 30 million euros hes the most expensive defender in history, and its not official whether garay is out or not, if he is then its 20 mil plus garay.

( madrid wanted to get rid of him)

madrid payed 30 mil and benfica will pay 10 mil for garay making it 20 mil euros for coentrao after subtraction.

one this is for certain, mourinho has wished for a rb since he went to madrid, he wanted maicon and failed, he always saw ramos as cb and arbeloa isnt more thant a squad player, mou wants a good defender and world class attcking rb in one, and thats why he got coentrao, he didnt go to madrid to bench marcelo or get benched him self, marcelo had a wonder season at rm, he came here to play as an inverted rb.

mou himself has hinted at that before explaining how he likes fabio for his disposition in different positions.

zamparini is a joker, i hope pastore finds a good place though, i really doubt chelsea have gone for pastore, zamp said he was worth 60 or atleast not less than 40...

ozil to madrid was 15 mil and hes way better than pastore, and has proved it in the big team known as real madrid.

Yeah, I can't see Chelsea getting him either. Zamparini is after way too much money and Chelsea don't like being held to ransom, many times they've lost out on a player by refusing to pay inflated prices (Robinho, Dani Alves etc..). I think he's using Chelsea's interest in the player to drive the price up higher and tempt other teams to come in for him. I personally think he will stay at Palermo, I can't see anyone paying £50 Million for him.

Modric apparently is still dead set on a move to Chelsea and will demand it in the next few days, hopefully he'll be the one we get.

Hmm Clichy and Nasri interesting moves I'd guess Vieira would have something to do with them coming here. Personally I don't think Clichy has been all that great last few years but at least he has pace unlike Kolarov and 7m is a Redknapp wheeler-dealer type of exchange not bad at all. Nasri's the really interesting one as the creativity from having him and Silva on the pitch at the same time will be amazing though he's a typical Arsenal 'take 10 touches of the ball in the box' player which could be frustrating.

As for Tevez I am hoping we can get Eto'o in a swap+cash he'd be the only striker I'd switch with him really!

Also found this pretty funny from when Ade joined good to know he's come to his senses and accepted the best club in the world! :)

Meanwhile, at Spurs, still impasse really in what is an absolutely a critical period... if we hold on to Modric, etc, and hopefully add a few more too, I reckon next season we at least have a fighting chance. Lose Modric and others though, and I fear the very worst.

Nasri is pretty useful as he can play on the wing. I wouldn't of minded Chelsea getting him as he fills a couple of different roles. Modric would be good as he is used to playing in the midfield battles, most of the creative players on the market at the moment are more like second strikers, which don't really fit in with the 4-3-3.

TBH, Nasri's the only one I mind losing. He's quality and I like him better in a more central role.

I'd rather take the money from Cesc and buy a keeper and a center half (hopefully one that's not 17 years old)

Cesc is talented but I don't think he'll start at Barca and we'll be better off without the annual soap opera. It was similar to the saga with Viera every summer and Arsene def sold at the peak on that one.

Good luck City with Clichy; he just isn't that good. Yes he's fast but he can't defend as Nani showed last season when he torched him

There are plenty of unanswered questions at United, Chelsea, City, Spurs and Liverpool, yet as ever this summer all media attention surrounds a putative terminal, unarrestable decline at Arsenal, and a consensus that we are playing for the last time in the CL. Wenger certainly has his faults, and the club stands at a pivotal moment, but that this attack on the club occurs annually completely ignores the fact of having finished in the top four for well over a decade. Have first team players left in the past and the team rebounded? Yes. Has the team previously suffered appalling late season collapses and competed strongly the next year? Yes. So there is not much new here, bar perhaps a noticeable increase in competition vying for the top positions. Are we primed to win the league next year? Probably not, but with a couple of additions we can mount a challenge and the rest is down to whether another team has the quality to dominate.

Regarding the mooted (and realised) departures from the club I am not overly downbeat. The Fabregas saga should be concluded, but the management have a responsibility not to the player but to the interests of the club; thus, regardless of any private arrangements Wenger may have made they should agree to sell to the highest foreign bidder, and allow Fabregas to consider his position. Realistically they should accept nothing less than GBP 40m, in light of the inflated state of the top end of the market and seeing as he is now one of the game's icons (whether or not you think he could get into the Barca team). Nasri should be sold if he won't accept new contract terms, but again preferably to a foreign buyer. It would be a forced sale, but GBP 25m to buy two new prospects on modest wages rather than let him play a season then leave on a Bosman is an easy choice. Clichy, as stated, is essentially not very good, although I personally think he had a 'less bad' season last year compared to the year before when he seemed to be responsible for a huge bulk of unnecessary goals.

I think this year will partially be a rebuilding season, but we will not be at the start of a wholesale squad renewal, and if the right purchases are made we can be true contenders in 12/13.

Ross: the reason we are not doing business yet is because we can't afford to compete on wages with the heavyweights (i.e those funded by sugar daddies or the dominant commercial clubs), and so have to wait for them to finish making their moves. While we might be able to match them on transfer fees the current business ethos at the club doesn't allow for GBP 120k+ wages. Once the big boys have completed their dealings then the market will deflate slightly and the next tier of clubs can move in on more rational terms. The cost of this of course is that new signings don't have time to bed into the squad preseason; this is a luxury that the highest spending clubs can 'afford.'

Feña14

G.O.A.T.
Looks like that could be it for Essien, then. They're saying he's done the same thing to his knee for the third time, he wasn't the same player last year so I doubt very much he will be back to his best after another year out with the same injury.

The squad is exactly the same as the one who struggled last year, with the exception of no Essien and half the young players have all gone to Hamburg! With this being the last time teams can spend big on players before all these UEFA rules come in, it's pretty worrying.

Yeah. Was watching the WWC Final and Braz / Para at the same time; one penalty shoot out after the other. The common thread of course was abysmal penalties in both (I counted a total of 3 full blown 'Waddles'), but at least in La Plata the pitch was a legitimate excuse.

Absolutely mental final QF between Venezuela and Chile. Venezuela scored in the first, and in the second Chile have absolutely thrown the kitchen sink at them and just couldn't get the ball in the net. Finally equalised after countless chances and total control at which point the game became end to end. Venezuela have just scored late doors and Chile are down to 10! And now as I write floodlight failure and the game has been halted!

Only QF I didn't see was Colombia/Peru and the Chile/Venezuela one was certainly the best, love how Chile play makes for great games like this one! Good for Venezuela to get through though and with Paraguay in the semi it's entirely possible they make the final especially if Crocky Santa Cruz is still injured by that time, would be pretty incredible for them.

I just talked with my coworker in Brasil, these are his words:

"This has triggered a big national debate, the headlines on the newspapers today say:

“Is the new generation of football players up to the challenge of the next World Cup?“

The whole Nation was shocked with the four penalty kicks that our team missed. What concerns me the most is the ineffectiveness of our attack which resulted in only one victory on this championship. The pressure for changes is high."

They were pretty dominant in both of the games I saw though they weren't able to win either of them, Pato alone should have had 4-5 goals but couldn't put anything away.

Really Brazil shouldn't be too worried, the problem mainly stems from the only decent creative midfielder they have being hugely inexperienced in Ganso and he'll be great in 3 years time. Neymar/Pato/Robinho worked well together up front and played some lovely stuff at times but it's that link between those 3 and the midfield that is missing - Robinho played the free role and nearly everything good in their play had to go through him which is fine as he's talented but his effectiveness is far better when he's linking up just outside/inside the box rather than 30-40 yards from goal.

Lucas needs replacing though, I don't see him ever being more than slightly above average, also a strong forward like Fabiano would be great but don't see anyone like that coming up yet..

Okay, Spurs have finally made a signing ("stop the press!" :)), and although Coulibaly is meant to be the next Dogba, er, that won't be for a little while as the kid is just 16, I believe. And aside from a lot of rumours re Ade you-know- who who used to play for that lot (hmmmm), we've done very little thus far transfer-wise this summer to suggest we can mount a top 4 finish, aside from the notable capture of someone of proven quality (albeit somewhat aged) in our most vulnerable position last year - that of goalkeeper.

How are we all feeling re our sides?

I keep expecting to hear of earth-shattering new signings arriving at Spurs, but it is all incredibly under-whelming ATM.

A very good point

Now, the hammers might be signing Matty Taylor, I don't htink that's a bad signing for us 12 months ago let allone now in the 2nd division but i've been very happy with big Sams work so far, he seems to be looking for players who want to play for him/WHU which, frankly makes a lovely change from the players we've had the last couple of seasons.

Agree with your top 2, and maybe Liverpool for 3rd. Arsenal though is a whole different ball game and the pressure is really on Wenger - and from what I hear everyday here in n. London - not least from his own teams' fans. I suspect this could be a make or break season at the Emirates then. On which basis I might rank them a tad lower (with Wenger retiring/moving club/getting sacked by Christmas. ) Chelsea I find very hard to predict with the new man in charge, but unless he truly is Jose M II, yes, around 5th place. Spurs at 4th spot (Redknapp getting put in prison for fraud apart

With the exception of the new money in Manchester, I think it will be business as usual.

As a Gooner, I am personally confident we will finish in the top 4. Liverpool have improved, but I'm unconvinced by a number of their big money signings, and Spurs have been static for a while. I think the legacy Chelsea squad will make one last push, backed up by a couple of new signings, and run United fairly close.

With regard to bringing in CBs, Wenger should just pay up and have time to blend them into the squad. Defensive chemistry is so important, and we haven't had any for years, and the extra few millions (if that is the stumbling block) in order to bring in players early in the preseason is worth it in this position.

Either way, it's shaping up to be one of the more exciting Premier League seasons, with a lot of clubs posturing.
