TW Reviews: Wilson BLX Six One 95 (16x18) and (18x20)

Thanks for the reviews.
Really like the cosmetics on these.

Just speaking from a pure power level - is the new BLX 95 (16x18) noticeably more powerful than the ProStaff BLX 95 and do you lose anything in terms of control with the new BLX 95 (16.18) over the ProStaff version?

Only disappointing aspect was Granville not being part of this playtest and being able to provide a comparison between this new blx model and his kfactor version. I really didn't like the previous blx 95 and I know he wasn't a major fan either so I was hoping he'd be able to say where this version fits in.

Wow! Carol hits a mean ball! Is she the strongest female playtester amongst TW staff?

She even had Chris on a string at some point; I guess it's edited to showcase the best shots, but simply, wow!

Gran has been out injured so far this year and I don't think he has hit the new Six.Ones yet.

Carol is freaking awesome man..wow. A true tw goddess, her game is sick. Makes me proud to wield the 6.1. That dtl return she had was just fantastic..im totally goating on the 6.1, carols game and the review in general. Awesome job.

On a side note, the pj looks fine to me in the videos. Cant wait to get mine.

Chris,

Thanks mate. That being the case, I'd appreciate any feedback from yourself, Carol or any of the other playtesters who have used the Kfactor version as well as the new blx. Unfortunately, we don't get the 16x18 version of the 6.1 here in Australia (at least, not my part of the country) so I can't demo the current model and come to my own conclusion.

Oh, and pass on our best wishes to Granville; for a speedy recovery.

"The first time I picked it up... even blind-folded you could tell this is a 6.1... a good racket... it's a player's racket... feels like a 6.1."

Carol is the new goat. The girl was smokin' those forehands harder than the boys were.

Also funny to me, Mark talks about how the 18/20 is more his bag and that the 16/18 is a little too much stick for him. And yet, he delivers more beauties in the 16/18 clips. Cracked me up when he said the 16/18 was 'a little out of his ballpark' right when he absolutely crushes a serve through Chris' stomach.

As always, nice job on the reviews, TW.

I was playing with the new 6.1 blx 95 2012 18x 20, terrible racquet,....other failure from wilson for this 2012, ugly racquet.......looking like Wall Mart tennis racquet....
The last blx 95 18x20 2010...was 1000 % time better than this plastic and hollow version 2012...honestly don´t spend money and time for this version.

I payed the new 16x18 demo and there was nothing hollow about it. Feels a lot like my blx's. They are very solid sticks..you sure you played the reall version?

Played with the 18 x20, I going to try again tomorrow with other strings, but for sure the last blx 95 18 x20 was much better IMO.

Why exactly?

BLX 95 18X20 2010.....more solid, better top spin, huge heavy balls... better control....I felt the new one easy to play, but more plastic.........maybe strings ( FULL POLY
PRINCE TOURNAMENT POLY..

I have the same strings in my BLX 95 18 X20 2010..believe me ...this one is so much better than the 2012 version.

THESE are the Wilson's I've been waiting for. I think I'm going to get the 16x18 after play testing it. Wonderful frame. Though my curiosity is getting the best of me and, even though I rave about the 16x18, I wonder if the 18x20 would be better? I've been playing with an old Kfactor 18x20 and old nCode 18x20 as I wait the release of these frames and I've liked them a lot (plus, I used Dunlop 18x20 200 series frames for years).

Pretty controversial view there Stronzzi. I really like the BLX 6.1 18x20 - I think its a beautifully balanced frame (unless you get a manufacturing lemon / off spec variant from the factory) but one thing I would never describe it as is a top spin orientated, huge heavy balls type of racquet. The headsize and pattern aren't really conducive for that. It's a control stick. It's also softer and more flexible than the RA would suggest. I hit a heavier ball with a Prestige MP or the 16x18 variant of the 6.1

Having been in the apprent minority--I prefered the BLX to the K-Factor--I am looking forward to hitting the new one soon. I have had no complaints with the first generation BLX--I play full bed of gut so feel (or lack thereof) has not really been an issue. Thanks for the review.

Carol is killing it again! The 18x20 has a higher sw? Is that on purpose?

Not likely, I think. Another online vendor has both the 16x18 and the 18x20 versions listed at 320 swingweight. TW had both patterns of the last gen at 338, but the frames TWU tested were 324 (18x20) and 338 (16x18). I think we're seeing a continuation of Wilson's QC struggles with swingweight in the 6.1 line.

I'm starting to think amplifeel is simply the process by which Wilson removes some of the silicone from the previous model.

Am I the only one bothered by the hideous looking racquets Wilson is coming out with?

I would buy a gold racket with metallic rainbows and unicorn glitter stickers if I knew it could be my best tennis ever. Don't judge a book by its cover.

Its not THAT hideous. People hated the 2009 Rebel paintjob, but it grows on you.

Carol is CRUSHING those balls! (no innuendo intended) I hope she switches to that racket. It's the first time I've seen Chris get destroyed so many times in one review, vs a single player.

Wow all of these comparisons to the last blx 95 have me spooked....I think every version of this Raquet since the ncode has been garbage. I was hoping the amplifeel would maybe bring a little more classic feel to this frame. If its worse than the older blx it's not even worth a playtest.

I agree 100 percent with what you said even with Carol destroying Chris lol, but I still don't understand why they couldn't do a better job, I mean look at the juice, it makes me want to cry.

Besides all that I am currently looking at this racquet to see if it is as good as my vantage

LOL - I just watched the vids; not because I'm interested in the racquet, but because of some of the comments about Carol. GOOD LORD you guys aren't kidding - she's the real deal! Unfortunately I think my Six-One days are behind me. My arm doesn't like the 12+ oz sticks anymore... dang she hits a mean ball though :)

And the fact that she's good looking doesn't bother you people either...you just find it easier to compliment "her game" instead of her body .

I think the 6.1s look fine. They're just red and white. Bit plain but I don't see an issue. At the end of the day, its all about how they play.

Wanted to point out the comment at the bottom. All of us that have hit with her got a good chuckle out of that.

I agree. The 6.1 isn't the greatest looking frame, but really not offensive at all.

The Juice, on the other hand, is just scary.

haha i didnt even realize that they made a new blx. everytime i saw stuff about a new review of the blx six one 95 i just thought that they updated the review from 2 years ago.
i dont think im going to even demo this stick. i dont want anymore feel from my racket, i love the muted feel of the blx, reminds me of the amazing feel(well lack of feel as some people may say)of the apdc

TW,
How come there are subtle descrepencies between these two frames spec-wise? In terms of flex, beam-width and swingweight.

Carol.... will you marry me?
I'm rich, tall, dark and handsome.... well... 3 out of 4 ain't bad. ;) ... hope my wife doesn't read this.

Is there a big difference in the topspin potential in the updated frames, comparing the 16x18 to the 18x20?

The new one is not in the same arena as the nCode. I did a side by side comparison of the two and that nCode feel is not there. I will say that the new 18x20 is serious improvement over the previous 2 versions in that the racquet has good feel and is not overly/harshly.

Chris: Which strings were used in these reviews? as well as what strings and tensions where your personal favorites experiences?

Thanks

Jeeez dude, comments like that are just cringeworthy.

She's a pretty girl, but with comments like that, you'd be better off sticking to the tennis.

Hello

Like many before me have asked in this thread I wan't to know if it's worth buying the new 18x20? Have a hard time imagining it being better than the 2010 version. Am I wrong?
