Nice pic but oh wow, that haircut...
Nice pic but oh wow, that haircut...
Why is he looking so excited to be holding a bowl of grapes?
It's some kind of good luck thing in Spain(I think) to scarf down 12 grapes as fast as possible when the New Year starts at midnight. He did it last year too but it sure didn't help him in 2012, so I doubt it will this time either. Lol.
Terrible haircut. I hate it and I hope he lets it grow back out again.

It's incredible how boyish he looks. Boyish and dorky. And plain adorable. Yeah, a bit thin, I hope his morale is not too low. All that sh-t happening to him when he has sacrificed so much for his career. Hope he's feeling ok.
Sorry, I just love his facial expression  I might start using it as my "disagree" pic.
I think his hair looks nice. It makes him look smart & boyish (he is only 26 after all), & kind of sweet.

I really hope he grows it out too...he looks like a middle aged man with that hair cut!
Nadal tweets!
Feliz Año 2013, Happy Year 2013.
Why is he looking so excited to be holding a bowl of grapes?
BTW, happy new year everyone
What do you guys expect.
He lies about injuries all the time.
He also retires from matches when the opponent is playing "too good" (A010 Murray) as to not let them win "fair and square".
He then blames the surface for losing when Verdasco just plays too good (Madrid 2012).
Finally when he does get beat, fair and square, he disappears for 8 months claiming his knees are injured. (Rosol)
How can anyone look up to this guy?
From Wikipedia:
Spanish New Year's Eve (Nochevieja or Fin de Año) celebrations usually begin with a family dinner, traditionally including shrimp or prawns, and lamb or capon. Spanish tradition says that wearing new, red underwear on New Year's Eve brings good luck. The actual countdown is primarily followed from the clock on top of the Casa de Correos building in Puerta del Sol Square in Madrid. It is traditional to eat twelve grapes, one on each chime of the clock. This tradition has its origins in 1909, when grape growers in Alicante thought of it as a way to cut down on the large production surplus they had had that year. Nowadays, the tradition is followed by almost every Spaniard, and the twelve grapes have become synonymous with the New Year. After the clock has finished striking twelve, people greet each other and toast with sparkling wine such as cava or champagne, or with cider.
Do you believe your own lies? What self-talk can do!
By the way, if you want to see a player who needs excuses for his defeats, look at Big Nose: His Ugly Majesty knows much more about the subject than Rafael Nadal.

I wish your player to get as many problems as Nadal has and we will see. The fact is that Nadal actually avoids talking much about his injuriesSo you can't stand when people criticize your favorite player Nadal and what do you do? You respond by criticizing Federer?
I have got news for you, there is one player in the history of the sport who has made more excuses for losses than any other player and it is not Federer. You need to be able to see the faults of your favorite player. You can say Federer may seem cocky at times or he may take stabs at other players at times but when it comes to excuses for losses, that is clearly Nadal's territory.

Maybe you should try seeing the faults of your player too. Federer barely gets injured, but when he has some little thing, we know it, don't worry. He complains about the surfaces too (especially after a loss), about the light on the court, and many other things.
If you can't stand criticisms of your player, stop your silly accusations of some other ones.

I am not the one who can't stand criticism of my favorite player. I just said above that he can be cocky and take stabs at other players, do you not read?
But in the excuse dept., Nadal OWNS that territory. How any Nadal fan can deny that fact is beyond me. As to Nadal's problems, save it. I don't believe the seriousness of the "injuries" over the years. How does one control one's injuries so that one is perfect for clay season and "injured" when HC and grass comes around? I bet most people wish they could control their injuries/illnesses that way.
Crisstti;7091112]Please CC, show us your data.
Rafa has had a lot more injury problems than most players, so it's actually only logical you would have heard more about them. Not too hard to understand really.
He's missed RG due to injury twice, and there's 2009 too. Learn some facts before you talk.
Have you seen copies of his X-rays or MRI's? If you have not please be quiet.
Given your standard, you should be pretty quiet yourself
I am still waiting for proof of Nadal "injuries" vis-à-vis his MRI or X-ray results. Unless you have seen them yourself, you have no proof. You can believe whatever you wish re his injuries and that is fine, but you have no proof of his injuries.
Give it a rest cc, you sound like a broken record with these silent ban and fake injury conspiracy theories.
Turn the volume down then.
What IS a broken record is having to listen to the Nadal camp come up with its inconsistent injury reports which allow people to form these type of conclusions about whether Nadal's injury is as serious as is claimed. If Nadal's camp was not so incompetent in this area, maybe more people would believe the injury claims.

All that proves is that Nadal's knees are more problematic than originally thought. You can't predict how long it takes to recover from this kind of injury or predict an illness. Come on now, if it were a silent ban they would have just made a statement that he will be out for 6 months, or is it now 8 months? Because of course his silent ban has been extended for some unknowable reason.
You have got to be kidding me!
He does? You mean only when the clay season is finished right?
Have you seen copies of his X-rays or MRI's? If you have not please be quiet.

I know you think the injury is fake because of the inconsistency, but in all seriousness how would you explain the injection marks at Wimbledon, reports from RG that he was playing infiltrated, the countless reports and sightings of him flying to doctors for treatment in the last 6 months? (if he were faking an injury why not just say he was visiting a doctor in Mallorca instead of flying all across Spain and France for treatment). Surely he is not such a dedicated con artist?
If it is the knee injury, then why the BS about a stomach virus?
And knee injuries are usually quite predictable. At least over a 6month timeframe. That being said, because of the number if times Nadal's knee has been injured I can buy the idea that it is harder for his camp to be confident when his knee will be ready, because they need to be absolutely certain. Then again, knee issues are not the reason he has withdrawn from the AO.

,I know you think the injury is fake because of the inconsistency
Moronic standard.
No one in the world outside an athlete's camp has access to his health records. By the same standard, you can neither prove nor deny anything about anyone in the public eye.
Crisstti;7092102]Uhm, no, which is why I mentioned the fact that he's withdrawn TWICE from the event. You know, he's withdrawn twice at Wimbledon, once at the USO and twice at the AO. This actually PROVES he isn't injured just after the clay season ends.
No one needs to prove an injury or illness to some overly curious stranger. If you want to claim they're lying though, you should come up with some sort of proof
Who says the virus is bs?.
And the knee issues ARE the reason why he's withdrawn from the AO.
My point is that Nadal fans say an alternate theory for Nadal's absence can't be proven and I say neither can it be proven that Nadal has a serious injury or that he had the flu or whatever other 20 ailments he wants to come up with.
Crisstti please! My point is he is NEVER injured in the clay season between Monte Carlo and the French Open. It sure is amazing how Nadal can will his injuries to always play his uninjured best during the clay season.
Firstly I don't have to prove a thing, this is not a court of law. Secondly, you are right, he does not have to prove anything to anybody, but that does not mean everybody has to believe his story do they? By the same token you want to believe EVERYTHING he says even if it makes no sense logically, yet you automatically challenge anybody who may have alternate theories. My point is you are unable to prove that what Nadal says is true yet you openly criticize others for not being able to prove their theories.
To me and to many others he certainly did not look like he had a serious knee injury at the FO or at Wimbledon. People with serious knee injuries cannot compete the way Nadal does and they certainly don't enter the doubles of tune-up events like Halle if they are seriously injured. If you want to believe the crazy story that is fine, but don't expect others to believe it too.
Anybody with a brain says the virus story is BS. He was out practising on clay two days after the virus story broke.
No, the knees are not the reason he gave for withdrawing from the AO. He said the knees are fine but because he had the virus it interrupted his practice that he needed in order to be prepared for the AO.
His buddy Ferrer just gave an interview where he stated Nadal's knees are fine as well.
There are many things that can't be proven. It doesn't mean all theories are equally valid. Some are pure nonsense, the "silent ban" one being a good example.
Uhm, can you read?, HE HAS WITHDRAWN TWICE FROM RG DUE TO INJURY. In 2004 he actually missed the whole clay season and Wimbledon.
Lol, you're the one who brought up the issue of proving anything here. Yes, you have to prove accusations against others, even in a casual conversation (or at least present a good, logical, credible basis). Otherwise you're talking bs and defaming people for the sake of it. But don't worry, I'm sure no one's going to sue you for it.
You can go and look for what I've posted about Robben in the 2010 WC and Rafa in 2005 Madrid to see how good players can play even while injured. You just don't know what you're talking about.
About Halle, I think he played doubles simple because he had entered already. There are two cases of him having played doubles despite not feeling fine or being obviously tired. There's some interview with Marc Lopez where he tells how Rafa was sick but refused to withdraw, and I believe they ended up winning the tournament. Don't remember what tournament was... maybe I'll look it up (or maybe someone remembers here). And he didn't withdraw from the doubles in Cincinnati in 2011 either, you might remember, he had just played that looong match against Verdasco and everyone thought he for sure was going to withdraw from the doubles. Even Fish (his next opponent) said he couldn't imagine Nadal would not withdraw from the doubles match).
In Halle last year, Granollers ended up withdrawing citing injury. Considering what happened afterwards, maybe Rafa was rather stupidly refusing to withdraw so he did instead.
It was Doha 2011. He was sick as a dog with the flu but refused to withdraw, and eventually lost to Davy in the semis. He was coughing and gagging on court he was so ill. He looked like death, and I think playing through that sickness cost him a shot at the AO that year.
Crisstti;7093129]Nope, only people with lacking reading skills. He had been sick for like 2 weeks by the time he was seen practising. Any reasonable person would understand he would probably feel better by then. When the story broke is irrelevant.
Again, he didn't say his knees were fine. He said he still felt something and wasn't sure if he was going to play the tournaments in January, February.
His friends are just being supportive and optimistic, much more than he has been himself. I remember Moya saying not long ago that Nadal was going to be ready for the AO.
Thanks. So, there's two documented cases of Nadal refusing to withdraw even though it obviously hurt his singles chances/wasn't fit to play. So his not withdrawing in Halle makes sense. (This is, cc, how you back up an argument).
