Who has/had the biggest forehand any of you people have ever seen? I thought Soderling's forehand was a monster especially on Clay.

My answer to OP:
Well, I think that post-PEDs Djokovic has probably among the most explosive forehand ever. It was this forehand that was required to beat a PED-enhanced Nadal in the AO. This was before Nadal went and lost Wimbledon to the up and coming Rosol.
Roger Federer, the second best-player of all time, has the biggest natural forehand ever. Although, Andre Agassi comes very close. Agassi might have had been considered the best natural forehand of all time... if he'd have beaten the best player of all time -- Pete Sampras.

rafa has a huge forehand. it's vastly underrated on these forums. bar soderling, delpo, rosol, and others who have taken advantage of poor rafa, i dont see anyone out gunning him when he's 100 percent and not injured or having family problems, or depressed.

I genuinely thought Soderling's forehand on clay was one of the biggest forehands I've seen and yes I'm a Nadal fan, I was watching Soderling vs Ferrer in 2011.

It's hard to tell, because those forehands that visually do not look as fast, may actually be loaded with heavy spin, thus making them very hard to return.
Soderling just looks like a gormless ogre clubbing the **** out of the ball. I think he and Gonzo are strong candidates.

Maybe one addition could have been made about the era before the 80's, about how back then the tennisplayers played wooden rackets and had to work harder so that Pancho Gonzalez -for instance- should be considered to have the biggest forehand ever, because nowadays with the new strings it's so easy to whack the ball..

For all-round usefulness - being able to inject pace, being able to absorb pace, being able to vary the amount of spin, being able to change direction, hitting straight/cc/inside-out/inside-in forehand with equal ease - no-one really is close to Federer in terms of GFOAT*.
(*when he was in his prime or the recent times he's playing well which isn't nearly as often as it used to be.)

I'm trying to be sensible to Bobby's post, frankly I don't think Tilden's serve or forehand (Gonzales' as well) could be compared to the power game of today. For all that talk of their great weapons, watching a clip indeed you just can't reasonably believe that those are the greatest shots. Then you watch Fernando Gonzales or Del Potro slam the ball, and it's HOLY CRAP!

Fernando Gonzalez. Just an amazing player overall considering how much he could do playing 80% of the court with his FH and defending his BH by running around it so much. I saw him live, I have seen a lot of players live but Gonzo's FH was like a laser beam.

But sometimes these geezers on the forum need a reality check about their past heroes. Yes, give the past players respect for what they've done for the sport and acknowledge their impact on the present game, but also understand how much the game has changed since then. I don't care how many basalt fibers and modern technology you put in a racket, 5'7" Laver would have stood no chance in today's game.
