What was Matthew's highest NCAA singles and doubles ranking while he was at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo? Will he be playing only singles or also doubles as a pro?

Matt reached a high ranking of #44 in doubles at the end of the 2012 season with partner Andre Dome after reaching the round of 16 at the NCAA Tournament. He will be playing both singles and doubles on the tour.

Yes

I have a question.

Is he the love child of Tom Brady?

Good luck! You may want to check out Stuart Ross Duncan. I think he's also a South African who tried to go pro and he also had a knee injury.

In the mean time, check out code.org so you can do coding at google or Apple later if you quit tennis. They have very good tennis players.

Interesting tourney. Travis R isn't seeded? Tarango in the draw! And our very own Jamison H also won his first round match.

Good Luck Matt.

ive played the 1 seed that he is playing and he is good, but not unbeatable. i want to catch some of matts match, but its the same time as mine.

Looks like he had a good match against the #1 seed in singles, he lost in 3 sets but at least the score looks like it was a really good match.

Best of luck in your next doubles round!

Yep, all of the top eight seeds advanced but Matt was the only unseeded player to take a set off of a seeded player. Just bad luck he had to face the top seed in the second round.

Is this "the" Jeff Tarango or his son or just a coincidence?

Kelvin Kim d. Jeffrey Tarango 2-6; 6-0; 6-1

I presume it is him. He still plays, most recently on the US ITF Cup team and I think i saw his name in the La Jolla draw too. Roz Fairbank Niedefer (sp) played on the cup team also, if you remember her from the circuit.

I hope this doesn't mean Jason will be pushed out next year after this college guy fails to make it on the pro tour and takes a job at TW.....LOL

Actually the pattern goes like this:

1. Train like a madman.
2. Play prize money USTA Open tournaments to build a kitty for travel expenses.
3. Travel to Asia and play every satellite tournament available.
4. Earn two ATP ranking points, get low on cash, come back home.
5. Work at an NCAA Division I school for a year as a volunteer assistant coach.
6. Get a job at Tennis Warehouse as a web designer/playtester.

Do I have it right, Andy Gerst? ;)

I like to think there are many tales of heroism and adventure in between, but yes, you basically got it right ;-).

On the subject of former ATP pros still playing, anyone know if that was the Michael Chang in the 40s mens indoors or another Michael Chang from Orange County?
