As far as String, I have also recently tried Lux BBO 16 at 58lbs. It was just too cold to enjoy right away. We've had warm weather until Thurs/Fri of last week and 30 degree temp differences affect playability so much that you need to be able to lower tension a good 5 lbs in those cases.

Anyone else have any other string preferences (aside from Gut/Poly) ???

I have been using this frame for my last 3 sessions and I am starting to get used to the feel of it.
I would agree with most others on here in regards to their reviews of this racquet, it seems to do everything well.
I had it strung at 50lbs but that felt to loose, restrung at 55lbs feels very nice. I also added 10g into the handle.

I remember Drakkulie posting a video hitting with the RF97 when it first came out and I thought it was helpful to see and "Ordinary Joe" using that racquet
so I posted a video hitting some forehand and backhands with it because I hadn't seen anyone actually using this racquet,
other than TW staff in their reviews...which seemed spot on.

The last time I saw somebody stand so far behind the baseline was Nadal at Roland Garros in 2004 lol good hits thanks for posting

Im looking forward to buying a prostaff.I saw the PS 97s and I liked it for its power, feel and its weight that fits me very well. But,I noticed its head heavy weight which is 336(racket weight:310)and alot of people listed it in their cons and prefered adding lead tape to the grip. And there is the PS 97 which has a more head-light weight than the PS 97s,so iam confused should I buy the 97 or 97s.My only fear is if I buy the 97s that it will feel heavy due to swingweight other than that I prefer the 97s.Any help?Im 15.

I'm in! Made the switch after hitting last night. Love the way this racquet feels.

You'll have to demo for yourself to know. Racquets are subjective in that what one enjoys another scorns.
Personally, I hated the ps97 and thought it felt stiff.

The stupid problem is that currently im in egypt which its tennis shops has no demos just buy immediately without trying.

Thank you.

I wish I'd get that much out of multi/poly… I get at the very best 2 hours from multi/poly!!
Well you might be a better player than I am! I've been playing with this exact stringjob for 4 years. Last time I tried such a full poly was a long time ago. I couldn't really tell you how I'd feel about another stringjob. Yet, the RF didn't allow me to hit my forehand flat, I had to put a lot of spin in order the ball to be heavy and long. Couldn't hit a volley properly. Everything went to the net, and when I took back my PS90.. ta-da! Things went back in order, forehand was great again, volleys went just like I wanted, especially the drop volleys (which became nearly impossible to do with the RF!). I'm not saying volleys with the 97S are as good as with a PS90 or Prestige mid (best, by far to me), but they're really good overall. Sweetspot is not huge, so despite the 97, I feel like if not's in the absolute center things will get complicated. I'd say a PT630 brings you more control and power at the net, but I couldn't tell you why.
As for serve, well, it's pretty close to the prestige MP line to me. Easy to put the ball in, easier to produce spin than with the 90. I do not play tournaments, but I noticed in the matches I played I was able to be more consistent than with the 90. And I could hit a bit harder!

So if I only add 5 grams to the handle will that noticeably affect the balance and swing weight to make it a head lighter or 5grams doesn't make quite a difference?

You would probably need closer to 10g to make it more head light. The SW weight won't change or at least won't go down. You would want to put the weight as close to the butt as possible to adjust the balance the most. I put 12g along the handle from 2" to 6" and got it to around 5 points HL.

It doesn't matter where you put the lead in the lower part of the racket, physics;).
It will just change the SW differently.

Which Blade did you use?

16x19..good racquet, but I just feel better with the 97S

What are the main differences with the Blade?

I just get so much more spin without having to compromise my power. I am a very flat hitter, I don't get a ton of topspin on my shots. But since I started to hit with this, I can just see the ball dip so much more, and I can really whip it cross court for those short angles. I also like that it's a little bit heavier

What's the launch angle like with the 18/17? I hated the six one 95s - launched the ball at 45 degrees - mad!

I'm using Diadem Solstice Pro in my PS 97S, and it played pretty nicely in my first outing with it, but I strung it too low. I've had some TE lately - almost certainly due to hitting with some YT IG Prestige Ss that I picked awhile back, as sticking them in the closet has made it a lot better (damn you, Head, for ruining the Prestige line) - and I didn't want to string up the PS 97S too high in case it wasn't a flexible frame. But I think the string would work well with this frame a few lbs heavier, somewhere in the mid 50s instead of the low 50s, and the nice thing about the PS 97S is it's flexible enough to take a full bed of polys strung in a mid-range tension.

That's the first thing I thought. How far behind the baseline he was.
That's the first thing you thought of? Not, "hmmm, that court position says he's not used to this racquet or its balance and is not comfortable with it yet"

I am well aware of my court position and that is where I felt comfortable using a new frame at that time. Would I slow down the ball speed coming at me? No, 65 mph is what I am used to and I wanted at least one consistent thing.

At least I took the time to post a video. I thought it might be helpful in some way.

Feel free to post a video of your own experience using this frame and of course, keeping it nice and
tight on the baseline taking the ball on the rise...I always love to see good hitting.

Another thing I noticed, is that it chews through strings fast! This will be a, "Get it strung once a month." deal...but probably every 2-3 weeks.

So what are people stringing these racquets with? And how low can you go with tensions? I'm thinking of getting one and putting a thin poly in the cross and a thicker in the main.
The crosses are what's getting eaten up in mine. I will likely do a hybrid with 4G or something like it in the crosses next time.

IMO, the 97S is the best feeling of all the 97 series. I currently tailweighted my 97S' in the buttcap with 1/4 oz fishing weights and added two overgrips to bring the total strung weight to 12.5oz. Plays like a beast at 4.5 HL that's more maneuverable than the rf97 with better feel and knife-like characteristic on slices. Stability of the hoop when swinging these babies through the air is impressive. My ohbh is definitely benefiting from the stability.

My previous racquet of choice was the Textreme 95, and I'm now torn between the two. More power on 97S, classic pro staff plush feel and sexy thin frame.

Having come from a more even balanced racquets, Blx tour 95, I don't mind the more even balanced frames any bit.

Hey I saw you have since sold your 97S. Any comments on the frame? What have u changed to? I'm still intrigued about customizing the 97S because of the thin beam and the positive reviews even though I didn't like it in stock form at all.

Haven't needed to yet. They (grommets) usually take a few months to get out there (or listed for sale). in my experience.

For perspective, I went back to my Prince Tour 100 16-18s for a few sets this week (it's been really cold and I love "feel")... I enjoyed them but once again found them lacking in put away/power. The Princes have grind away-abilty but lack thumpage when its needed. I play a lot of practice sets/matches so today I went back to the PS97s for it's heft and swing weight, and got a lift. Got broke at 3-4 with the Prince, went to the 97S and pulled out the set 7-6. I can just be so much more thru the court without feeling like I'm playing with a light, stiff stick.

What string setup are you guys using in this?

I'm using Lux 4G @ 23 kg. I'm able to play for only about 4-5 hours until the strings go dead despite 4G supposedly being one of the longer lasting strings. I'm a student with low income and having to get it to be restringed so often is taking a toll on my wallet :p

that's interesting, the graphene prestige S is sort of my go-to racquet when my arm starts to bother me. i started with the speed MP when i first began playing and developed fiery elbow and shoulder pain. switched to the prestige S and things were immediately better. i use poly strung at sub-50 lbs.

Obviously you have a different version, but for me it may have been the line and not the version, as any Prestiges I've hit with after the YTPPs I currently use have felt stiff, hollow and very un-Prestige-like to me.

I just bought them because I do equipment reviews and I wanted to be able to test strings without having to put them in my YTPPs that I use for matches and serious hitting. But for me it turned out to be a big mistake. Never had even the slightest tinge of TE in 25 years playing until last year when I started hitting with those Prestige Ss.

i understand, might have been the light weight of the racquets if you're used to old school prestiges. the S is flexy, but not necessarily "plush".

Been following some of the posts regarding modifying the 97s and most reference adding weight in the handle due to the even balance of the frame. I was curious if anyone had applied any weight in the hoop.

I have been playing with the 97s for 4 months now and have gradually modified along the way as felt necessary purely based on feel and knowledge of the initial specifications. I ordered 2 matched from TW and added 4 grams on the handle with 2 overgrips with 4 grams each at 3 & 9.

Decided to get them measured at a tennis shop and the specs were: 151.5grams/32.8cm/349sw; 150.5grams/32.7cm/347sw. Have been playing both singles and doubles with this setup and surprisingly feels very comfortable and manageable.

Yes I am. I just put an overgrip, strung at 55lbs with NXT Control. It does produce easier spin on ground strokes, but lacks a bit of power on flatter shots. So I am looking into powerful multi/poly combo for the next string job. Even balance doesn't bother me, or I don't think I even notice it on ground strokes or volleys. However, I felt it on serves, a bit harder to go over the top, especially on top spin serve. But all in all, I am satisfied with it coming from heavier racquet like PS90/RF97, and then a lighter one like AI98 which lacked the unique crisp feeling but it is still a great racquet. I would say 97S falls right between the two types, for me at least.

Does anyone in here actaully play with the PS97S in stock form?

I was interested in trying the RF97 but was concerned about the weight and stiffness of the frame. I too felt that the 97s had good spin but lower powered on flat groundstrokes, therefore I started to gradually add weight to the hoop at 3 & 9 to where I feel I am happy how it plays presently.

I may still try the RF97 out of curiosity but conscious of the static weight and stiffness.

Strangely, for me, although RF97 should feel as maneuverable as PS90, it wasn't quite so. And also, it felt pretty stiff especially when I strung it up with multi/poly combo, which eventually led to the demise of my wrist. my body getting old probably didn't help either. So I moved to AI98, then 97S now. I would compare them as follows:

Power: RF97 > AI98 > 97S
Maneuverability: AI98 >= 97S > RF97
Stiffness: RF97 > AI98 == 97S

I'd think you will very much like RF97 assuming the weight/stiffness don't bother you too much.

Regarding the additional weight to the hoop, I am a bit reluctant because of the still-tender wrist, therefore considering a more powerful multi instead. Hopefully it can make a difference, even if it's little.

Thanks for the info. I after investigating the RF97 further, Irealized that with dampener and overgrip, I'd be looking at approximately 364 grams static weight and figured that's significantly jump from my beefed up 97s.

Instead, I had taken out a standard PS97 and modified it with 2 overgrips and 3 grams at 3 & 9. Only had the sw measured at a shop which came to 332. Still pretty HL and I estimate the static weight to slightly over 12oz. My goal was to have access to more pop since I continue to add more weight to the 97s.

Has anyone tried adding lead tape to the handle? I am considering it in hopes of making serves a bit easier. I would like to get it to, say, 7 HL points from the current, roughly, 3 HL. In your experience, how many grams needs to be added? Or how many grams per 1 HL Points?

I added 4grams of lead tape to the handle and 2 overgrips which comes to an approx total of 12-14grams in the handle. With the 4grams each at 3 & 9, I got a balance point of 32.7 which I think comes to 3-4 points HL.

About adding lead tape to the handle, I am planning to place some tape right on the leader grip and then put some sort of tape(scotch or masking) over them as a cover before putting on an overgrip. However I am concerned about damages to the leather grip by the type of tape covering the lead strip. Anyone has recommendation what the best type of tape for this would be?

I used "BlueStik" inside the handle, so no messing up the leather or anything dealing with the grip. This stuff is actually more dense than you would think, which makes it heavy-ish, and it's tacky enough to keep it in place. 10 grams fit into the handle easily and took up about 3/4 of an inch space, once the foam was removed inside. You can also remove it very easily.

That's pretty good. So a lighter, thinner beam RF with similar power and plow due to the high swing weight. Like someone mentioned b4, if only it were a 16X19!!!

Yes, it has a nice combination of feel and plow. Haven't tried the RF to compare the difference in power levels, but was curious as to how a modified PS97 would play with the thicker beam.

I've actually set one up and tinkering with the lead tape.

You could skip two mains and use their respective holes for the crosses instead... ;)

Lol. Hmmmm. As much as I like my RF97's, I just have so much insane fun with the PS85. I can see now why she is your permanent mistress.

Have been using this low strung set up[20's] for a few weeks and I really like it, today was great. Excellent spin and feel. The strings aren't snapping back to their original position anymore, but they're not far off at all. So this is probably close to ideal in terms of snapback because it has maximum string displacement[snap] and very close to maximum string replacement[back to zero].
