It's very very likely this is his last year on tour, so let's enjoy while we all can.

For anyone who hasn't been able to see him live, worth making an effort to get match tickets (if affordable / convenient of course). I'm certainly glad I got in at the right times in the past, and on some of the biggest stages...

For sure, Nadal is box office and you should book tickets for his final year on tour if you can.

This is coming from a admitted hater of Nadal, i I respect the guy is a legend and probably the best clay-courter we will ever see in our lifetimes but if you like Nadal and wanna see him live, now is the time!

I knew it was ominous when Rafa went over to his box and started shaking his head at Moya so clearly he wasn't feeling physically ok. Looking doubtful if he will play Madrid or Rome, maybe trying to save what's left of his form for a final appearance at RG?

Kudos to Alex though. He's shown yet again what a tough little bugger he is to play against now claiming the Claycourt God as his latest victim!

After watching Nadal's movement as bad as USO 2022 , I can safely say RG is a lock for Sinner. Who is going to stop him?

There are none so blind as those who refuse to see.

@PSNELKE, good on you for not gloating. You nailed your predictions (less the precise score, shame on you!) and it was quite an enjoyable read to see all the salt directed toward you.

When he hit the FH well you could see traces of the Nadal beast. But I also noticed too many UEs from the FH, particularly from balls that landed close to his feet. and other FHs were slower than usual, giving AdM time to reach them, which would not have happened with prior versions of Rafa.

We will have to wait and see. May be just the process of getting rid of the rust and gearing back up. Or maybe there‘s injury issues that won’t go away
The serve and BH are concerns for me tbh, the FH was more rusty than concerning if that makes sense.

In a couple years, even TTW posters can win against Nadal. If he can get to the final then he is a touch little bugger not until then.

Nadal is not injured. that's a win in itself.

Nadal is not ready for winning titles on clay. Honestly he must not be ready even for Barcelona but seeing that this is his final year and he is very close to playing RG, he would have to take this tough decision.

I see this similar to Djokovic post surgery struggles in 2018. He will play well by Rome and best he can at RG for sure. Unless there is another injury.

And I don't know why he keeps saying this may not be the last year. This is it.

Honestly De Minaur is playing at an incredibly high-level since the beginning of the year, no shame at all losing against him.
Yup. And he has the combination of speed, consistency and power/shot-making, that was always gonna be a tough match up for Rafa. Especially after 2 years away from real matches. I think Rafa would have pulled it out against many other, higher-ranked players today.

After Nadal's 1st Round victory over Flavio Cobolli he said he was saving himself for Madrid and Rome-
“There were things [I could have done] today that [could have given] me the possibility to play better today, but don’t give me the possibility to play the next day or the next couple of days, or in terms of weeks, in Madrid or Rome."

And that is why he lost his 2nd Round match... he's focused on Madrid and Rome, and was pacing himself and holding himself back vs. De Minaur.
And it appears Nadal would have won if he gave full physical effort, because that 1st Set was a very close 7-5.
So I think this bodes well for Nadal at Madrid and Rome, and his ball-striking appears ready to do his usual dominant thing at Roland Garros and Wimbledon.

I don't think anyone with a realistic outlook expected Rafa to win this match. It was a good warmup, testing his current abilities and a very, very decent first set by Rafa. The only way is up from here.
So you're calling 46% of TTW (according to the match poll) not realistic?!? Sounds about right.

But questionable taste in women. Of all the amazing women on the WTA tour, why Boulter?
Besides, she looks like she might be able to kick his a**. ;)
I'm reluctantly becoming a fan of AdM's tennis, though- esp after today's fine result. Now, about that "moustache"..

Nadal looked pretty good in Australia, like he could possibly win RG, but the extra 4 months off certainly hasn't helped.

Hopefully, he can pull it together for RG. If anyone can, it's him.

Did Nadal win a single return point in the second set?
He won two second serve return points. This is the type of win Rafiro is used to having on clay. He actually played well in spurts in that first set and hit some incredible FHs and some pretty good BHs as well. His movement just isnt there and he was forced to “play to the limit” as he likes to say. aDM is just playing really, really well right now,
