Disappointing performance from Muzza today (where did his serve suddenly go? ), but should still be the overwhelming favourite.
Hope RBA will be able to make it a decent match.

No joke, but it is pissing off how Djokovic played his best match the entire tournament and lost in 2,while Murray played his worst and still won easily.
I guess Novak's luck with some draws this year is kind of coming back to him now when he really needs an easy path.
Hope RBA will be able to make it a decent match.
RBA of today would probably even have a chance to win.
Murray is likely going to pick up his game and beat him easily, his BH is way to strong for Agut.

hmmm i dno i think Murray was a tad better pre surgery from like US 12 thru Wimb 13
Not even close by the stats. Murray much better on clay. The better 2nd serve on hard courts really adding up. Drastically better first serve game on clay the last two years. Murray was extremely lucky to snatch the US Open in 2012 (wind did it.) Looking like a favorite for WTF. His movement might have been a bit better, but the serve and a healthy back are really adding up.

Novak is not playing enough to get his game fully sharp and its going to keep costing him. Too much time off for Wimbledon. Delpo cost him a lot of play at Olympics. Now another layoff a week too long skipping Beijing for elbow. Two more weeks off then Bercy. This lighter level of play is not going to allow him to be at his best.

If Murray takes WTF, the unthinkable could happen at Australian Open. If Novak healthy he should wild card into Basel or Vienna. He could use that extra week of play a lot.

I agree. He was peaking and becoming a genuine rival of Djokovic but the back problems and surgery just took away that rivalry from tennis. To his credit,, he's successfully come back and built up the momentum that he lost with the surgery. Djokovic still seems burnt out, and this is Murray's chance to live his dream of becoming no. 1. It's all on his racket, I think. He'll win in Vienna, and I think he can catch Novak during Paris or WTF, if he can stay focused.

I'm a Murray fan and I think he'll win but have a wee soft spot for RBA 'cos my bestie is a huge fan of his. Looking forward to this!

Dead serious that the wind was the margin in 2012 US Open. We have are ongoing debate where you think Murray is a great hard court player and I'd maintain its his weakest SLAM surface these days. He's been and under dog in so many slam finals, that I actually view him as an extremely clutch player for most of his wins, though 2016 Wimbledon was a nice exception. Murray looks set to go on a big roll.:D

The wind blew on both sides of the court and the conditions were exactly the same for both players. The match went to 5 sets and Djokovic had every chance to win it. He ran out of gas in the 5th set more than Murray did and that's why he lost and Murray won. Nothing to do with any so called advantages or disadvantages from the wind or any other weather conditions. Extremely disappointed that you are still peddling this nonsense. Murray has beaten Djokovic many times on hardcourt, that US Open match was not the only one. He was ready to win it, that's all.

You are at least right about Murray being a better grass player, which has been true his whole career. I'm not ready to hype his clay-play. His return on hard is a bit higher than on grass, which is true of all players who compete well on all surfaces. But he won almost 91% of his service games on grass this year, and he's been over 90% 6 different years.

His service on hard is horrible in comparison. He doesn't look like a grass player, and maybe in other eras he would not have been, but for sure grass is his best surface.

Hands down...

I'm not convinced about clay though. He did well the last two years, but I think he's better on hard.

Murray's weakness on hard is his serve, and it hurts him horribly. You can expect a player to serve better on grass and return worse, with the total results about the same. But Murray has a very good service game on grass. Why? I don't know. It's like everything works there. You have to remember that he has two chances every year to win hard slams, yet he has two grass slams.

I think Murray is a better wind player. That doesn't mean that if wind was a factor that makes a win any less of a win. Novak plays a very precise game, counter-punching. Fed has a very precise attacking style game. Both may be at their best indoors. That doesn't make either of them better.

If Murray is unlucky, he would lose 10 games. Otherwise, he will win
another Masters title in straight sets losing less than 10 games.

Cheers,

3beers :)

Btw, if Batista wins, it will be one heck of an achievement. How many has won a title by beating No.1 and No.2?

Bautista doesn't make many backhand errors, but it's hilarious how easily Murray gets the upper hand in those backhand exchanges

:eek: Amazing stuff. Murray with the ridiculous cross-court backhand from an extremely tough position, but RBA responds with deft touch on the half volley drop shot.

Great hold from RBA. 3-2.
