I don't care if Kevin leads the H2H 6-0, winning three of those in 3rd set TBs, this time it's on the red dirt where Dominic reigns supreme. It'll be a travesty if he doesn't win the whole thing now...

It is quite wide open, anybody winning the title wouldn't be a huge surprise I suppose...

Bit of an open match because Thiem has historically underperformed after beating an ATG and Anderson has a mental edge over him (even with no matches were on clay).

Going with Thiem but it won't be easy.
It's probably also the greatest chance for Kevin beating Thiem on a clay-court as well with the conditions here in Madrid. It's also a rare day when you have Kevin as the more mentally stronger player in a match up.

Oh god, scheduled at 4:00 pm, local time. Unfortunately, that's around 2:00 in the early hours of the morning over here...

Amazing to think that it is the first time in 11 attempts that Anderson has got past the quarter-finals of a Masters 1000 considering he's already made the final of a Slam!

At Majors, it took 8 attempts to reach his 1st Quarter-Finals.

Calling USO 2017 a “slam” is very generous of you.

Not sure if that one's worth a lot of consideration TBH.

Thiem has historically under-performed because he met an ATG right after beating another ATG: Djoko Rome 2017, Nadal RG 2017, Nadal MC 2018.

When he did win against an ATG and didn't have to play another right afterwards, Thiem won the title: Buenos Aires 2016 and Stuttgart 2016.

Madrid 2018 doesn't have any ATG's left in the draw, so it's Thiem's to lose. No excuses for the 2nd best on clay currently not to win a clay masters.

That's what a weak field does to you ;)

When the competition is so weak obviously many guys will get their chances. Anderson has reached the semis here the same way he reached his GS final: by being better than the rest of the journeymen.

Thiem wins here and meets Zverev at the final.I think Thiem will beat Zverev there. Some people in TTW should relax Zverev is not winning the title against Thiem in final.

Hey, I'm with you, I don't want Zverev to vulture another masters where Thiem has done the dirty work for him. Nobody who has failed to take a set off Nadal on clay deserves 2 masters on it, while the guy who has beaten Nadal 3 times has none.
It’s a cruel world.

I’ll be disappointed but not surprised at all if we get a Zverev/Anderson final..

Thiem should win in straights, but wouldn't be surprised if this becomes a chokefest like their meeting in DC last year.

I love how everybody can be all fast and loose with the word deserve.

In my caveman view, Dominic Thiem deserves no masters because he hasn't won a masters.

I feel the same about Murray being opportunistic... The fact is greatness is not just beating great players but beating all players for a given week. We have been a little deluded the past decade with top 10 consistency and being able to use that as a measure of absolute draw strength in comparing tourney wins. That's going to change soon if we aren't already seeing it start last year. If Zed finals and beats Thiemitrov at this point then what can you say? Good on him, one might be lucky like Jisner was but that clearly not the case here...
