I adore Petra but I don't want another slamless number 1. Hope Halep can take the title or Osaka remain #1. I feel like we'd be back in a 2009 vortex where Serena held 3 slams and wasn't number 1 while Safina was (and delivered the hilarious "she won Rome and Madrid" line).

Osaka holding 2 slams but Kvitova being number 1 without 1 would just be silly to me.

Osaka has been pathetic since the AO.
I didn't know the "undeserving #1" meme had already been extended to "not holding a Slam currently".
It's becoming increasingly hard to deserve that #1 spot, sheesh.
Kvitova is not an undeserving #1 by any means: she's a double-Slam winner, a Slam finalist, and she's been very close to the number 1 spot in the past.
She has also had one of her best seasons so far.
