The 3rd ever meeting between the two.
Interestingly, first in over 5 years & 3 months (since 2017 Indian wells 4R)
Nick won both previous ones in Mexico & California.

Probably not the matchup everyone expected at the beginning of the tournament, but it's here nevertheless.
Djokovic is on a 27 match winning streak at Wimbledon, starting back in 2018. He is a 3 times defending champion here
Nick on the other hand has made the deepest ever run at a major, and its perhaps his first & last slam final.

How do you see the match progressing?
Who wins and how?

Nick may win a set as his serve is a weapon and Djokovic lately has the tendency to carelessly drop sets against subpar competition. He will easily win in 4 though.

Another idiotic inexperienced guy ( slam final experience NONE )versus Djoker .It will be either straight sets for Djoker or Nick will start hot then blew it up.I can’t see Nick as a slam winner.

The outcome of this match is a function of Djokovic's form. If it's normalovic or peakovic, he obviously wins. Get's straight setted if Drunkovic or Giftovic shows up.

I hope Wimbledon is very happy with their final they have created :)))! Would have been a disaster to see a evil bad person as Medvedev in a final, right? Hah Kyrgios you got!! Hope the Queen enjoys the good manners of down under as well

Djokovic will win easily. Kyrgios is not interested as he all but admitted in his presser today. His final was Nadal. Wanted a third fight.
Crowd will boo him and he will go down quietly and we wont hear much from him again. His heart isnt really in tennis. He has an obsession with nadal it seems. Only player that really seems to fire him up.

At TTW, we're about to have a heart warming moment - Nadal and Fed fans coming together as one to support the honorable good samaratin, Nick Kyrgios, in his quest for a first grand slam title.
No dont think so. After seeimg the Kytgios press cpnference he is just so mentally weak and unprofessional i cannot support him. Djokovic has dedicated his life to tennis. I hope he wins.

So, all Rafa fans did prior to the draw was calling for Kyrgios to be in Djokovic section....and now we see these types of posts.

Bigger than the best performing AO player ever being banned from AO?

Both Wimbledon and AO have devalued their own stock greatly by refusing top players for political reasons. Banning the number 1 player, defending champ of the AO, and top performer at the AO, does really diminish the AO more though.

But both organizers should understand you can't claim to be "the championship" unless you allow the best to participate. Likewise you can't say it is an "open" and then close it off to people that have different political views. The titles are false and everyone knows it.

Wimbledon banned two very top end players and then that mistake was amplified with other players had to withdraw due to covid. But I think players deciding on their own they won't play due to health reasons is not a grounds for an asterisks. But I think it should have an asterisks because the Russians were not allowed even though they offered to not take any money so their would be no violations of sanctions.

Novak spoke out against the political ban (I think Nick did too) and so it is fitting that they are in the final.

Kyrgios is getting 50% of Nadal fans on his side. For the rest, he is more obnoxious than other finalist.

Without doubt, this has been the easiest/weakest Wimbledon in decades. So many players missing.

On the other hand, the Australian open was missing just one or two prominent players, which is normal as one or two players always end up missing a slam, due to injury or whatever else.

But the worlds number 1 wasn’t injured. He was banned based on his personal beliefs.
You can put 20 mugs in Wimbledon, it doesn’t replace Novak from AO.
Med had no real chance, Rublev not even a glimmer of hope.

Djokovic will win this easily. Nick will get hammered. He won't be able to handle the occasion and his game will be full of UEs. Him not being fired up for a match usually equals disaster for him.

He’s actually not wrong, if Novak shows up with that tentative feel out game then Kyrgios will take advantage. He can come to the net and hit aggressive shots, and he has real power when allowed to take the front foot in rallies. Djok has been playing with fire at times and Nick is definitely capable of punishing it. All it takes is one break.

By contrast if Djokovic is the aggressor, looking to dictate and move Nick around in rallies, there will only be one winner. Will be interesting to see how this dynamic plays out, especially on the Djokovic and Kyrgios second serve.

He was banned because he refused to take a vaccine which was a prerequisite. It's like defaulting..

Doesn't matter whether a player is absent through injury or ban or default, the negative effect is EQUAL on the 'strength of the field'.

Just because he was banned, it had no additional effect on weakening the field than if he had been injured.

So still just one or two players missing from Australian open V/S several players missing from Wimbledon. Its a no brainer.

But what is your argument, that Kyrgios can win ? Because that's different from saying the match is on his racquet.

the match is mostly on nick's racket....he needs to play with conviction and clarity to have a chance....he's definitely got the game but no idea what version of him shows up on sunday.....
If kyrgios brings his best focused game..he will win in 4 or 5 against current version of djoker Or else djoker will win irrespective of any sets

Agreed. The match is on Nick's racquet. If he wins three sets he will win the match, otherwise he won't.

If Djoker is dumb enough to do stall tactics and unleash NK’s volatile side then I see 3 sets going to tiebreaks. Kyrgios wins 2 of those tiebreak sets. Djoker wins in 5.

If Djoker is smart and stays super chill, NK will be subdued by the stage and his new Djokovic bromance. Djoker in 3-4 if that happens.

Both players will be thinking they’re gonna make a statement with their tennis in this match. It’s hard to believe that Nick’s statement will actually be his tennis though.

Nick may have this and he may have that but he doesn’t have the mind. Guys who display his level of clownery for such a long time rarely come good, ever. I’m still amazed that the flesh-wounded one-legged bullet-ridden rusted rodent didn’t send him packing in the SF on general principle.

Many possibilities, and the crowd will be very pro-Nick, but I can’t see Nick winning this. Novak, probably in 4.
