Ha! Nice! Heartbreak Ridge, if I'm not mistaken?

However, their 'Swede' reminds me of a 5' 8" version of The Mosquito:
Yeah, he should be (and probably will be after this year) a 5.5, at least in the 40+ category. He might struggle to win against some of the younger 5.5s, but he'd definitely hang and make their day miserable.our Swede has a world class backhand and volleys
super fit and smart
nothing spectacular , just solid as a rock
are you serious? You Cannot be serious
Every year its a fresh start with new players moving to the age group.
If someone wins a tournament or a pro the US open they play it again the next year right?
If someone is a 4.5 and play usta league, then nothing is wrong with trying to win the national championships again
ahh, that is pretty weak. It's like wining in Football League in UK and not going to a Premier League. Because, you know, even though we are the best in Football League we would rather stay there since there will be new clubs here next year, and we can prove we are the best among 'second best' again.
Fail analogy, but nice try
1500 teams baby ... most of us are 4.5 not 5.0 so why would we have to move up to 5.0?
nice try
lol. Obviously you don't know Gut.It's ok to admit you're afraid of playing anyone who might be better than you.
I think he forgot his medication
lol. Obviously you don't know Gut.
His quirky posts notwithstanding, he's one of the few people I think that thrives on playing people that are better than him. While I've never actually played against him, I've played next to him in many tournaments, and have seen the anger and frustration in his opponent's eyes.
I distinctly remember two years ago he beat a college kid (#2 player at a D3 school). The kid was extremely pissed, complaining throughout the match. I ended up playing that same kid in the doubles final, winning in 3 sets. He was good, definitely strong 4.5/weak 5.0 level. This was 3 days later and he was still complaining, saying he couldn't believe he had lost to Gut. I just shook my head & smiled...
Gut was bumped to a 5.0 a couple years ago, did his time at that level (i.e. didn't try to appeal down as others do), and was bumped down to 4.5 the following year. Now he'll probably get bumped back up to 5.0, and the cycle will continue.
It's obvious you don't understand what competitive means.
We all know Gut is a good player. That does make him unafraid of competition. What you describe and his posts confirm is a player afraid of playing fairly. Him being bumped up to 5.0 and mailing it in for a year until he's bumped back down doesn't make him competitive.
