That was a stupid mistake to make. It looks like the Surge 5.1. Anyone know?

EDIT: Silly me, not a surge. No PWS.

i think that at 3 and 9, it is just lead tape. It very well could be a pure drive, and judgeing by the fact that the paint is from a 2 generations ago pure drive, i think that it is real. It could just be that she had the buttcap changed to a wilson, because she may preferer that handle shape to the babolat. What is strange is why she is using that old school painted bab, that is the kind that i have. I didnt think that pros still used it.

also note the color of PD is too old.. I show that in the morning and knew it PJ as no babolat player will play with old paint job

Yeah horrible mistake, i'm pretty sure that if it was a Wilson they wouldn't leave such an obvious RED Wilson cap on there....probably the shape of the handle as someone else stated....because I own some PD+'s and that sure doesnt look like anything but a PD+
Why is it the old Paint? Well legend has it that the original PD+'s were made better and played better for whatever reasons (weight I believe) so she may be hanging on to her original rackets and just modifying the shieeeet out of them

all it is is the buttcap and probably wilson leather grip.

it can't be a real wilson buttcap. wilson caps are red with a white W. that looks to be pink all the way through. i would say its photoshop, but it clearly can't be with the website. its not a wilson racquet either. harkleroad has played with babolat all her life, no reason to switch. however, i have seen her playing with the pre-cortex paint job, so why she's in that pj is beyond me.

the buttcap for that racquet should be silver, without the red babolat logo. however, she's not in the woofer grommets either, because the grommets at the throat aren't raised. maybe she's not on contract anymore and she is using the ones she has left. the sticker still can't be explained.

Come on, isn't it obvious? She put that Wilson butt cap on just so that she can spin her racquet before her matches and ask her opponents to call "M" or "W" to see who serves first. ;) LOL

I mean, the Babolat logo is useless for this most important function of the racquet since it looks almost the same right side up or upside down. ;) LOL

Could be some older wilson buttcap, maybe it was from a frame she started out with. Grip shape is a tough thing to get used to, so if she plays with babolat frames, but wanted to maintain a wilson grip shape, and didnt care much about a paintjob, that picture could be the result.

With the Babolat butt cap, you might end up standing at the net for hours before the match trying to figure out if it was "up" or "down" and who serves first. ;) LOL

Man, those Wilson racquets are so well designed. They thought of EVERYTHING!! LOL

Try playing with someone that has a Wilson and whose name starts with "M"!

Where do you get a fake Wilson butt cap? On the border in Mexico? By the way, in the pictures, to me it looks like a run-of-the-mill black Wilson butt cap with red square and white "W." Even if it's not a trap-door butt cap, the center part can be taken off or at least painted over with stencil ink or something. At any rate, I'd guess that would be the last thing Babolat would worry about here . . .

I saw Ashley Harkleroad when she was a junior (don't know what she was playing then), so I hope she keeps climbing . . .

Yes, silver, is it like the one on the old ~2001 Pure Control? That one feels more like a Wilson butt cap than current Babolat butt caps, so I wonder if Harkleroad might have just needed a similar butt cap and didn't have any new old Babolat butt caps handy?

i always tell my opponents that when the lines are up its down and when the lines are down its up. look at the babolat sign use your eyes and brain. to tell whats up or down.

To them, "m" is up!

You must play with some strange people with names that start with "M". ;) LOL

In any case, most people ask "M" or "W" rather than "up" or "down".

You must play with some weird people that can't read letters of the alphabet!

Oh well..I like how Prince rackets have my initial..except I'll say "P" and they think I said "D" and take the balls to serve.. No I'm serving those are mine!

The two pictures in the original post are five years old? They reference 1 August 2006, Acura Classic.

Huh? You said you play with people who only say "up" or "down" (and then think "M" is up) and I said I play with people who call out "M" or "W". So who are the ones that can't read the letters of the alphabet? Sounds to me like it's people you play with who don't know the difference between "M" and "W", so they just resort to saying "up".

BACK TO THE TOPIC: If the Babolat is a pj and its really a surge it should have PWS right I cant see one but the pictures dont really shoew this area.

Lindsay

Semi-Pro
its not a pj, she's played with babolat since she was 14. and its also not a stock wilson buttcap. its not white on red, search getty for closer images, its a really light red with no white.

Yes, it's a Babolat with a Wilson buttcap. A strange thing to do i must say, i wouldn't be too pleased if i was either Babolat or Wilson.

Lindsay

Semi-Pro
i stand corrected, she obviously did play with a volkl at some point. but i did see her at 14, playing with a babolat, pure drive to be exact. rumor was it was still a junior racquet- which would make things even more interesting.

Just a wilson butt cap, you go to the work of creating a paint job and forget to replace the butt cap...Won't happen...

I think whoever regripped her racquet just threw on a new butt cap on her racquet before she went on court. They are in Cali. Maybe someone threatened to pop a cap in her butt? Are they near Compton?

jura

I think that she just didn't like the contour of the Babolat butt cap. As far as I know this kind of Wilson cap is a bit more rounded.

i also noticed that Amber Liu who played for Stanford still plays with the old PD paintjob. i dont know why people play with the old one. i think it looks really ugly.

Now, back to this "up and down" thing. Babolat may be tough to read. But Volkl buttcaps are virtually USELESS when it comes to determining serves and sides.

At least w/ Wilson, you can ask: "Money or Women?"

Be careful when you slam Volkls. A certain poster here just might put you on his ignore list. ;) LOL
