Asics Gel Resolution 8

Not sure if that’s what they’re designed for, but it works perfectly for it, so I’d imagine it was intentional.

Haha it's actually used to put the extra laces in there so it won't get in your away as stated by colan xD think there was a video on it

Here is my GR8 experience...

My regular size is 10. I bought a few GR8’s in size 10. The fit was good. Perfect around the foot, but a tad bit too long. After break in the fit around the foot remained perfect but the extra length bothered me even more.

I am now trying on a 9.5. It feels very snug. I am hoping it will loosen up and be the perfect fit in width and length. The length is right on the edge, the width is tight. After breaking them in they may be the perfect fit. However, if they stay too snug then I can utilize the @dl125 method and clip the straps to loosen them up a tad.

I have a pair I have had since March, but I didn’t wear it during quarantine. I’ve been wearing it for about 3 and a half hours about 2-4 days a week for tennis, and it is really amazing. I was expecting the rubber under the right big toe to break by now but it is still pushing it. The left big toe rubber has more compression, but it’s still intact. And the cushioning has saved my feet plenty of ice buckets. Awesome!

I’ve got to admit I am confused. In the original colors that came out the 9.5’s fit me perfect. The 10’s are too long.

However, in the new colors the 9.5 completely strangle my feet and are way too tight.

Any chance they corrected the problem with the new models?

Could be a QC thing.

I found GR7 a bit too long/loose after the break in. Shall I order half size smaller in GR8? Thanks.

I love the GR7s. GR8 is the only ASICS Tennis shoe that I have gone down a half size to a US 10.5 from my normal US 11, like others.

I have worn GR 4,5,6,and 7s usually about 3 pair of each shoe

One more question. In GR7, I found the inner materials of the front are bit rough and causes blisters. I ended up wearing thicker socks. How is the new GR8? Thanks.

I can wear some thinner socks and I don’t get much pain if any. The materials aren’t super stiff but are still supportive, I’d try it on just to know.

I found that with the GR7 the inner materials were thinner and less durable then with the GR8. I have a kind of pointy heel and within a few weeks of wearing the GR7 a hole developed in the heel of the shoe, whereas I've been wearing the GR8 for over 4 months now and there isn't even a hint of a hole.

Received a pair today - put them on, promptly took them off. The plastic forefoot just pops and is so annoying, not plush at all. Very snug on my size 13 boats. I'll stick to my New Balance Fresh Foam Lavs.

The plastic forefoot is very noisy on one of my shoes. It has gotten slightly better but is still noisy. I needed to size up to 13 2E. Couldn't do the regular 13

I felt the same about GR8 too. I think New Balance Lavs is one of the best tennis shoes I have ever worn, very underrated.

Just got my GR8 in wide today! Got them for $69 on a clearance sale. First time using asics and im very excited because they keep skipping generations for wide shoes and they have always been kind of expensive.....

What's up with the limited colorways? Seems like Resolution 7's had lots of good looking variety in comparison.

Completely agree. Maybe its early and they will come out with some more, specifically black with another color mixed in like the red/black or yellow/black GR7's. Don't see how you can have a line of shows without at least one black option.

I've only seen this one on the Asics site and also other shops, not TW yet. I'm waiting for a mainly black color way as well. I've had my orange and black 7's forever and they are beat.

I do like that Tokyo colorway, but I hope they made it in the wide (2E) version
Definitely. The gel res 8 in 10 wide is the best shoe I’ve ever worn, beats and Nike and passed my barricade 2018 for comfort. I can wear one pair of socks and feel great, but colorways need to start getting a little better. The best ones imo were the release colors and that French red white and blue shoe.

I wear two on almost all other shoes lol. But if I’m at a tournament I love court feel so I wear no socks. My feet bleed, but it’s all part of the process ;)

I bought two pair of Gel Resolution 8 some months back, best shoe I have ever tested. Just a great solid shoe with good support that still isn't too bulky. Don't see myself ever moving to any other shoe.
Agree! I use my couple of pairs of Zoom Zero's when my knees are hurting due to the cushioning, but on other days the GR8 is just a better all around shoe. Plan to pick up a few more pairs, my only issue is I need the wide as well. Hopefully a few more wide colorways come out, as they are sold out almost everywhere.

I haven't tried those. Asics are one of the few who actually make them in wide format, right? I have some issues with my knees which has gotten much better after switching from various Nike and Head shoes to them, I really struggled with the regular Nike Court shoes since they didn't have any dampening. Good bye Nike, might want to test the new space-looking shoe from Nike though.

The zoom zeros are great for my knees but also had buy a size higher due to weird Nike sizing. Sometimes my arches hurt in then. Overall though there gr8 is a great shoe. It's good on my knees, doesn't hurt my arches and is great for performance.

Anyone feel like the outsoles are too slippery? Played 2 sets this morning on hardcourt and slid out a few times just trying to change my court position..wasn't even trying to slide:unsure:

Was thinking the same thing yesterday. Slid out on a back foot push of yesterday. Blamed in on a dusty court, but they do seem to slip more than my other shoes.

Just wait til the tread wears! They are grippy and squeaky but as the tear wears they feel like skis. I was trying to wear the tear down. I would have come close had I not been smitten by the Vapor Cages.

Does anyone else have heel-slippage with the GR8? I have to use a runner‘s knot to prevent this and then the shoelaces are so short that I barely have enough laces left to tie a small knot. Otherwise, I like the shoe.

Yes I do and I use the runners knot and I swapped laces to an oval lace. However it is still not 100% so I bought a court ff2 and that shoe fits so much better with zero slippage

Court FF2 is a bit narrow for me in the middle of the shoe and I get slight pain in the bottom of my foot near the arch. I have to lace it loosely to prevent it - it still has a secure fit due to the sock-like design. However, I’ve had two of them and they both lasted only about 50 hours before I felt they they became too soft with inadequate support. I’m a long-time Barricade User and used to getting 75-100 hours on hard courts with them. I’m at about 40 hours with my first GR8 pair and waiting to see how long it lasts.

Never noticed any type of slippage, but I primarily play on clay.

When I'm playing I never notice it but as soon as I'm done and I take my shoes off I'm always surprised by how they come off with the absolute minimum of effort. I've not tried using a runner's loop but I agree about the shortness of the laces. I don't think I'd have enough length in the laces to try it. since I've never had any issues with heel slippage on the court I don't really mind, but it would be nice to have a more secure fit around the heel, yeah.

I also play on clay, although I've no idea why that would make a difference.

I found the GR8 is the most stable shoe (and I've got fairly flat feet!) - I've just received my 5th pair as I had to complete the full gamut of colors (other than white!) - Black / Blue / Mako / Grey - My first pair of blacks are just starting to break on the edges of the toebox so have been replaced with another black pair. 6 months or so of use 5/6 days a week so impressed!

Does the forefoot flex break in with time? I just received my GR8s and I’m getting a plasticky feeling on the tops of my toes where the shoes flex.

I noticed that immediately. Hoping they will soften up but I have < 10 hrs on mine so far so we'll see...

Yes I agree 100%. I accidentally bought GR8 clay in size 11.5 (when I normally wear a 12 with GR7s) and the fit turned out to be perfect. I would definitely recommend anyone buying GR8s to downsize by half a size from GR7.

I ordered them in wide which felt more comfy but had to return them due to heel slippage. The heel area is shorter than the FF2's when comparing them back to back and doesn't lock in the heel properly (I wear thick Thorlo 100% Cotton socks). Poor design, very disappointed.

I think I'll try the Adidas Bounce or Boost. Any other suggestions on the most cushioned/comfy shoe like the FF1 but with plenty of thick, lasting rubber in the inner toe area?

Life long 10.5 wearer - including Asics - I got these in 10.5 and they were too large with the heel slippage also - I used the heel lock hole on the shoes which was a partial solution - I was desperate for the shoes so did not return even though I should have -

Recently acquired these in 10s and they are perfect. So as others said, I would also urge all to go 1/2 size down from the usual. At least it worked for me.
